Only people who have never been tainted by new generation games may enjoy the majestic beauty of this first person adventure, most of us no doubt experienced this game in our early teens or throughout our childhood, we feel this great feeling of nostalgia, a great sense of emotion from the past, my brothers and or sisters...., imagine imagine!..................................., i still carry this great sense of feeling when i hear this wonderfull music, may Christ be with you all brothers Amen!
@Nastor1996 Wheel of Time wasn't all that good imho, though Hexen 2 and Thief might be the only mideval FPS that are really good... Or that even exist.
@ChromeBallz Theif was an extremely hard game, i could not figure it out for the life of me, but it was good, Nothing beats Unreal in FPS/adventure games with no cutsences or voices
rhaaa god, how can this song remind me so good memories!!! the first level when we discover a strange planet and we have no Idea how we landed there!! we just arrive, and the atmosphere!! so.. powerful!.. I love this Unreal!!
Oh, the memories. My dad showing me this as a little kid, stepping out onto the planet, Fighting the Tentacle in the house, the first Brute, Finding diaries, jumping off the cliff (You have to do that at least once), and eventually finding your way to the end of the level.
"The sound samples for Unreal were from a huge variety of sources but a good portion of them came from my Korg Trinity."
These words were messaged to me from Alexander Brandon himself, the god... I mean musician who made this track when I asked him about his samples...... HE SPOKE TO ME!!!! ^_^!!!!! but yeah, thought y'all would be interested about the sound samples.
i was about 8 or 9 years old, when me and my brother played it the whole day on my uncles pc... of course we weren't allowed to :D but it was fun... and still today i think it is one of the most creative and intelligent shooters ever. and of course, there are no games that got comparable soundtracks, except deus ex and NFS II and III... this music is just epic!
I feel like a damn fossil.. I dearly miss those days of exploration in that wonderful world, with the awesome music, and Skaarj that fucking dodged your fire!!!
But really, the main character doesn't have a name. YOU are the main character, so everything is up to you. The character models have names, like Dante or Ash, but they don't really count.
Return to Na-Pali kinda ruined it by making your character speak.
Unreal may not be the game with the bast graphics anymore. But at the time of release, it was light years ahead of its time.
And on a more personal note: this game is what the name implies, Unreal. Not one game after this one, came close to experience this one made. Therefore I wish to thank the creators of Unreal, for doing the incredible work and producing the unreal. I still have the game, and I still love playing it.
@angband84 I would have to agree, no game has EVER topped Unreal, not even todays standards of graphics. No game compares to the awesomeness of feeling lost, lonely and trying fight for your life all the while trying to get off the planet.
Perhaps the best adventure game I've ever played, along with Na Pali expansion. it was almost dream like, one minute you're in an ancient arena fighting a Titan, then walk down a valley to find a spaceship! I loved how the journey twisted and turned
When I entered the world of Unreal for the first time, saw the landscape and felt the atmosphere, I thought "Now it begins, it all starts here. This will be the best adventure I've ever experienced".
played this game at a lan club for my birthday with friends when it came out, bought it the next week at the mall, blown away. still in love with SkyTown.
I have to say that I'm very upset that I didn't know about this game back when I used to play Unreal Tournament on my iMac back in 2000. I played Unreal on my G4 tower in Classic a few months ago for the first time. The music was incredible to me. It was truly fitting with the first area. Then around 2:30 the music reminded me of Underworld II (DOM-Sesmar song) from UT99 while I was getting chased and shot at by these big, scary Na Pali guardians. Shame they don't make games this good anymore...

Despite that nothing serious happens exiting Vortex Rikers, because of this song that moment is as unforgettable as when you entering the Dark Arena level or face the Titan boss.
Birds singing ... that lovely nali rabbits criing ... clear blue sky ... the vision of freedom and beauty on a totally alien planet ...but wait ... what is that confusing feeling in your stomach? what do you even afraid of? The unknown? Eh. Atmosphere indescribable. The sight. The sound. Masterpiece, the game and the music alike.
I still play this game im 15 and i started back when i was 5, man i love this game, if some 1 still have it come play online there are alot servers :) well if any 1 cares my name at unreal is Depredador-(DOG)-
Amazing how one piece of music can snap you right back to childhood! haha....i must have played this when i was 12 years old and i still remember it clearly......Christ im getting old!
Man i love this game so much. FPS games like this, UT99, Half-life, Deus Ex, ect.. are legends. I'd recommend playing this and UT99 baked because it feels sooo much more real and amazing. It's like actually being there. And it already feels like that sober. ;) But when i heard this tune i felt freedom, beauty in all its glory, peace, sadness, curiosity, and loneliness. Just epic.
Exiting the Vortex Riders was an amazing and memorable part of Unreal. The only games to rival the feeling of suspense and awe in Unreal for me was escaping the hospital in Afraid of Monsters: DC and the pompeii level in Darkest of Days.
The minute I stepped off the Vortex Rikers, I knew this was going to be different. I wasn't just playing a game... I was entering a new world. No other game before or since has had that same effect on me.
This is the best track in Unreal. Shivers went over me, when i just listened to this tune, remembering, how it was to start exploration of that alien planet.
I remember, that i listened to this track over and over... Its perfect!
I still remember everything from Unreal, even though when it came out and I got it I was 4. I'm only just officially allowed to play 2k4, and even I get nostalgic!
damn i remember playing this game years ago it had a big Impact on my childhood. it would be awesome if Microsoft would bring this back on live for arcades.
unreal had one of the biggest impacts on the shooter world imho. the game was just perfect, from the first second to the final fight.
it was just such a perfect world, everything was fitting. i remember watching the flight around the nali castle for prolly an hour one day before i even loaded my savegame.
not to mention it had coop (patched, but who cares...?)
somewhere in my musicfolder i have unreal music slumbering that i exported with the editor :)
This song does bring back a fond memory of exiting the ship. I've never actually finished the game since I get bored every time I play, but I love it anyway. Great game.
Favourite piece of the game. No Contest. I can still remember the first time I saw this scene. I ran out of the Vortex Rikers and hung a left. I got to the edge of the cliff, and saw the waterfall at the exact time the "swell" starts (0:12, i don't think that's a coincidence. :-)). I took one look, and I was like wow, Wow, WOW! That's when Unreal won me over, and it's been my favourite game ever since. Everything else gets to squabble about 2nd and 3rd place. :-)
Yeah, that and when you go down that long hallway. You push a button and it gets all quiet...then the lights start flicking off one by one...until one of those Skarj (If i remember right) comes out of the wall and attacks you!
I love this game. I still play it today. I will remember this game forever. Unreal is a masterpiece. I used to play multiplayer with my friend and we stayed up ALL night playing coop multiplayer. It was great. I wish more people would play it.
After spending time scavenging the remains of temporary human camp for supplies I take the elevator to the bottom portion of the map. The minute I set foot around the next corner my first combat encounter, a brute. Man EPIC sure as hell back then knew how to set the tone of combat and scenery. I want them back or at the very least give us a GRAPHICALLY Enhanced remake of this, especially the coop-mission portion for this.
Oh btw, if yall want to find unreal anthology, they will be selling it at a place called "Frys" { computer software/store company} if yall live rite near it or u can just do it the easy way { internet...}
Wow, i never knew how in the last 3 months of how older games seemed appealing and more addicting than the shitty games that are out there like Fracture, F.e.a.r P.M. { series,} and Combat Arms.... Iam still a kid, and i do like these games like UT,MDK2,and Death trap dungeon... The only thing that some companys are too lazy about is remaking the games with graphics.. I will try this game some day when i get unreal anthology, and man, old skool games rules the most, but today's games drool!@! [=
never leaves my mind use to play this game when i was a kid next to mech warrior:D this brings back alot of memries playing Lans and such i love this game and i will never forget it.i wish i could get it agine i miss it everyday.
I remember exiting the Vortex Rikers feeling so confused as to what was happening. Where was I? Where was everyone else? and then all those feelings disappeared as I turned my view upwards (0:12), eyes widening, to see gaming beauty at it's finest. A blue sky with clouds gently panning, hearing birds in the distance and behemoth stone walls encircling and the gentle white noise of a waterfall nearby. I set forth on my adventure within Unreal 11 years ago, and nothing has topped it since.
Nowadays they put extreme attention to super hiper graphic effects but forget about triggering OUR IMAGINATION by GOOD music like Unreal 1 had. When i heard the beginning of this soundtrack i thought: "I just went outside, let's take a look at the sky" !!! :D
Man, this song has such a feel of... accomplishing something! To finally emerge from that giant ship that imprisoned you to explore a vast planet. Without this song it wouldn't have been as mesmerizing and breathtaking the first time you played. It's as if it captures the story of the world and tells it in this song.
Thanks, This is my one of my favorite songs in the game. I remember getting out of that cave into and hearing this music while seeing the mountains in the background and the dark blue sky it was awesome.
@DeathPenguin1000 Im in my teens and since I was a kid I played stuff like Unreal, Everquest the good old games, I like to collect most of the series sometimes :P
@DeathPenguin1000 the thing is your a kid, but you're not a "Console-Tard"
please, help rescue these poor children from their own famine of gaming. Rip them off their console, plop them down next to a pc, and make them play, deus ex, baldurs gate, morrowind, daggerfall, fallout 1-2, and last but not least.....
man, i remember getting out of the ship, two strange suns in the sky, the cry of the birds, that little rabbit thing, the hut , the fishes, the waterfall, everybody knows.., greatest moments in gaming. kids dont know what they are losing with the crap that comes out these days.
glad im not the only one... most games of today are so generic. There are only a few games with so much atmosphere as unreal. The music did so much to the imagination!
It's definitely one of if not the most sensational/starkly emotional games I've ever played, and the 2nd level was a great example of that. Nothing like crawling from the wreckage to take in the beautiful scenery, approaching a mining cave with flickering lights, dead bodies, and distant screams, rounding the corner, and then having the music panic as this big hulk-like creature with two rocket launchers smashes a guy against the wall, blows him to bits, and runs at you. Class.
@Atrahasis7 seriously, please don't generalise, not all 'kids' these days play 'crap' new games, and some of the new games are the UT of this generation.
@Atrahasis7 that`s an amen bro. still play Infiltration Coop with unreal Maps. hell, and those single player mods that came out.....Illhaven Saga, Shamuquest, Towers of Shrakita....wonderful
I find there is a depressing lack of wonderment in FPS games today. The closest thing I've come to the Unreal experience recently would have to be Borderlands. That sounds a bit odd, but I honestly I think they crafted a coherent and interesting place that made me want to jump the invisible borders and just go exploring...
@goldsak actually Borderlands felt more like Fallout 3. That's just me though.
To me the closest games to Unreal/RTNP were Mass Effect 1 and 2. I enjoyed the exploration of planets in ME1, and that map in ME2 with the burning red giant star where you rescue Tali, as well as the Normandy crash site (sorry for spoiler if yoyu didn't play it).
2:33 i love this part when you come a cross a corner and a body get's tossed at the wall and blown up. and that creepy rocket monster comes round the next hall. classic unreal
Only people who have never been tainted by new generation games may enjoy the majestic beauty of this first person adventure, most of us no doubt experienced this game in our early teens or throughout our childhood, we feel this great feeling of nostalgia, a great sense of emotion from the past, my brothers and or sisters...., imagine imagine!..................................., i still carry this great sense of feeling when i hear this wonderfull music, may Christ be with you all brothers Amen!

this music just brings back so many memories, the aura created by this game trapped you in it. Awesome stuff

Awesome game :)

Until then... PLAYERSONLY

Oh btw, if yall want to find unreal anthology, they will be selling it at a place called "Frys" { computer software/store company} if yall live rite near it or u can just do it the easy way { internet...}

Aduk96 2 years ago 5
Agree! Old games is GAMES! Modern games is virtual reality((( i dont like it(((

quiteobserver 2 years ago 4
they use their imagination now and dont let you use yours unlike unreal.

Man, this song has such a feel of... accomplishing something! To finally emerge from that giant ship that imprisoned you to explore a vast planet. Without this song it wouldn't have been as mesmerizing and breathtaking the first time you played. It's as if it captures the story of the world and tells it in this song.
jackoneill45 2 years ago 10
Thanks, This is my one of my favorite songs in the game. I remember getting out of that cave into and hearing this music while seeing the mountains in the background and the dark blue sky it was awesome.

@DeathPenguin1000 Im in my teens and since I was a kid I played stuff like Unreal, Everquest the good old games, I like to collect most of the series sometimes :P
1PlayerD 1 year ago
@DeathPenguin1000 the thing is your a kid, but you're not a "Console-Tard"
please, help rescue these poor children from their own famine of gaming. Rip them off their console, plop them down next to a pc, and make them play, deus ex, baldurs gate, morrowind, daggerfall, fallout 1-2, and last but not least.....
UNREAL

man, i remember getting out of the ship, two strange suns in the sky, the cry of the birds, that little rabbit thing, the hut , the fishes, the waterfall, everybody knows.., greatest moments in gaming. kids dont know what they are losing with the crap that comes out these days.
Atrahasis7 2 years ago 108
I'm with you on that, I can still remember the feeling. No such moments in today's games. And the music, fantastic!
ChronicZG 2 years ago 6
glad im not the only one... most games of today are so generic. There are only a few games with so much atmosphere as unreal. The music did so much to the imagination!
Bravothreezero123 2 years ago 8
Today's games don't focus on beautiful atmosphere anymore... Unreal was one of a kind even amongst older games.
EdikShepherd 2 years ago 10
You are goddamn RIGHT !!!
I had exactly same feelings :D
quiteobserver 2 years ago

That sounds a bit odd, but I honestly I think they crafted a coherent and interesting place that made me want to jump the invisible borders and just go exploring...
goldsak 1 year ago
@goldsak actually Borderlands felt more like Fallout 3. That's just me though.
To me the closest games to Unreal/RTNP were Mass Effect 1 and 2. I enjoyed the exploration of planets in ME1, and that map in ME2 with the burning red giant star where you rescue Tali, as well as the Normandy crash site (sorry for spoiler if yoyu didn't play it).
zevsmd 1 year ago
@zevsmd
I can't say I've played Mass Effect. I'll have to give them a shot. _b
I found Fallout 3 a bit bland and depressing actually... lol
