very good, brought back lots of memories, my grandmother lived on hardy ave, name was coyle. i was a wee boy when we left?/wheres the ice cream shop??dont tell me its gone??
Burnside has rarely changed, apart from the shops. Safeway been replaced by Somerfield the last time I was there. The awful dank and dark entrance to Burnside station is gone, thankfully. Attended Burnside primary for six months between Jan and June '65. Dougie Donnelly was in my year and later found fame as TV presenter/journalist.
Burnside Hotel changed. I started drinking there at the age of (ahem) of 17 when it had a huge bar area.
Interesting about Dougie Donnelly. Since then the most significant changes to Burnside have been an off-sales, where The Locarno Cafe used to be, and a betting shop just up from it on the south side of Highburgh Drive. In the 1960's these would have been unthinkable. Also, prior to Safeway and Somerfield, there was The Rule Cinema. Accordingly, some say that in recent years Burnside has gone rather downmarket. If so, maybe soon an ice cream van will fortify this impression.
Nice video my friend, i'm a Burnside man myself and you've did a nice job showing the place. Nice to see you included the house that ex-Celtic man Simon Donnellys parents live in to show that we have the closest thing to celebrity!!
Many thanks for your kind comments. I hope you make it to Rutherglen next time you visit Scotland. A warm welcome awaits. Give my regards to The Lone Star State.
Good job on masking the shit hole that is Rutherglen. Having lived here for the past 20 years I wasn't surprised to notice that you're 2 entire videos were shot within a very small radius of the town. Where is Spittal, Blairbeth, Bankhead, Fernhill, Cathkin, Burnhill and Farmecross? Are these parts of Rutherglen not good enough for the videos? Don't paint a false picture of what is terrible place!
This is just a brilliant video, I've just recently moved to Rutherglen (having lived in Castlemilk since 1962)and its great to see parts of it on video - excellent stuff, and the music is great too...
Rutherglen, Halfway, Cambuslang and Burnside are the most boring, empty and undesirable places I've been to. Land that time forgot.
