hes my coach and he talked about it ,, he said he kew the ice was rough , so he wanted to take the puck all the way to the net but instead it went over his stick , and he tried to get it but he fell,,,, o and he said that the coach wanted him to shoot in the shootout ,, o yea and he scored 2 goals that game , and was star of the game , o and this is minor .. he was first round pick in the nhl draft..... over the sedin sisters!!!

Just look back at Gretzky, he always shot the puck in from barely inside the blue line at the empty net. I'm not bashing his luck I'm bashing his decision to take it that close before deciding to do something, too much can happen to the ice near the crease to chance skating it in.

I've played hockey in leagues from when I was a small child and this was something that shouldn't have happened. if anything you lob in the puck from around the top of the circle or the blue line if you have a lot of faith in your shot, missing it from that close is inexcusable

Kovelev scored a goal on the oilers earlier this year from his own end, empty net. But instead of trying to show off, he just shot the puck. Stefan had to just shoot the puck and it would have been game over. period.

@stefy71 only one problem with that theory to this biggest blunder in NHL history, is that the ice was not in Dallas. The puck hit a rut left from a skate in the crease and bounced. The game was played in Edmonton. Edmonton has always been known for the best ice.
