@lockerzonly There are different type hulls for different uses.

Flat hull boats (John boats) are made for lakes, ponds because they don't handle good in choppy/rough seas.

Round bottom hulls almost glide thought the water. They're efficient moving through the water. Sail boats have round hulls.

Deep V hulls are meant to "cut" though the water and are meant for speed. Offshore racing boats have Deep V hulls. Hope this helps :-)

If the boat is constructed correct this is not risky, its like a big wave hitting the boat, but if there is a problem in buoyancy then it will roll over. Its better to roll over in the port rather in open seas!, its like a test.
