Jeff, May I ask, Did you play any sports in High School. I am a Football Player and Wrestler, After wrestling I had lost 20 pounds and know i am at a target weight and i look better. I hope other High schoolers will try a sport like wrestling, it is great weight control.
What would you say about supporting someone who is trying to loses weight but as you said tends to put it off, should you try to push them to put in the work or just encourage it and let them decide when they are ready?
I've never realy been overweight... but i can relate to the subject... I was a skinny guy(6.4 175)
and i know how hard it is to change the lifestyle... it's pritty much the same thing... it is all about the mentality... now I am at 190 and it's not fat.. its mostly muscle... and its hard... but I'm progresing... And as you said, you have to know what's healthy and what's not... keep up the good work :)

I got put on ADHD meds (For a sleeping disorder I have, off label use of adderall) and went from 220 to 150 now. It took a few months, but I didn't have to do anything. I feel very unhealthy with how skinny I've gotten so quickly, but that's what amphetamines do. Don't use pills to make yourself skinny, you won't feel nearly as good about it and you won't be nearly as healthy.
5 minutes into this video and I am going to start running again. I was running before with some guys from my Armed Forces Recruit Center because that's what I want to do, join the Army. I was running for a couple weeks and drinking plenty of water and stopped eating a ton, i lost 15 pounds in about a month. Now I haven't ran for a few months and I can tell I have gained the weight back. I am going to start eating right, cutting out the soda, and start running.
If you think that something is healthy but it isn't then you probably don't even care enough in the first place. You just go with what you hear and that is against human nature. Derp.
This sounds like the story of my life... I been fat all my life and everything you have mentioned sounds like me to a tee... Except I have had a lot of tragic things in my life that have fueled the fire for my weight. And it has now gotten so bad that the thought of how long it will actually take to get to the weight I would like, seems unobtainable.... You've truly inspired me. I weigh around 300 pounds and have for the last two years. I joke about it with friends and everyone (I have bigger boobs than my friend), but I know that I am unhealthy. I am only 20 years old, but I have worse knees and feet than my 80 year old grandpa. Everything unhealthy you've said, I do. i just watched your "introduction: about me and a message" video from a long time ago. not only have you lost weight but you are a different, much cooler person.Not only in the way you talk and move, but the you communicate your inter voice with improved self confidence.
The best part of the videos is the guy behind the camera. I recently saw a documentary called "Fat Head". It is basically an answer to "Super Size Me". I know you have lost a lot of weight and are changing your life style so I thought I would recommend "Fat Head" to you. It is very informative and really goes into the science behind how your body manages to food you take in. Not to mention it's funny!

Truly inspiring! Sure i am young and resonably fit now, because i have an active lifestyle. I like sports. They are loads of fun. The trick is maintaining this lifestyle your entire lifetime. That is the hardest part.
i was 5'8 238lbs the summer of 2009 and from that time to now, i am 150lbs and 5'9. i felt all the same feelings. never went anywhere without a shirt, ate too much, and so forth. i lost the 88lbs not as well as you, but it turned out my thyroid was dead and i had kidney stones. got both cleared up and now i have more energy than a ADHD 7 year old. that and i eat very little meat now too. great job though! i wish my dad could do the same as you. hes 6'3 and 320+ pounds.

food is a drug and it becomes like a drug. Then you get on that cycle crash and burn. But i remember i worked at a telecom place and all the old ladies that where super fat at lunch time would get so pumped up around lunch to order something,

i like swimming, hiking, camping, stuff like that now, although it seems i have the lifestyle of a bear. During the winter i gain weight and the summer i lose it again. and it keeps going like that for years. it's weird, but also normal if it's like just 10 lbs a year. however i can gain like 20+ then burn it off during summer. Although thats not healthy. The wrong food thing is important too, eating healthy and being active, working out is alot of work lol

i was a fat blob last year about 250 lbs for my smaller 5 ft 10'' frame at 18 years old, and then went to the cloudforests of Costa Rica to do volunteer work and lived there hiking every day for a month, lost 40 lbs. came back a happier, more active person.

a tip for people who love soda too much to stop drinking it. well wherever you go when your home always take your bottle of water with u , if you want to drink soda stop buying cans or big bottles but buy 0.5l - 1l bottles and always keep them stored in your fridge , u want to drink soda ? well take a small glass fill it with soda and take it with you. when it's finished and are still thirsty you'll rather take a sip of the bottle water next to you than running back to the fridge for soda ..

Honestly... it's all about calories. You can gain weight eating healthy. You can lose weight just by eating snickers bars. The only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in. I still eat everything I ate before... but in much smaller quantities and a lot more exercise. I've lost 50lbs over the last year. I still eat pizza once a week and burgers and fries. But it's 1 burger and 1 fry instead of 2.
Keep it up man, The hardest thing for me loosing weight wasn't actually loosing weight once you get in the right minds set. it was realizing that I gain 30lbs back from the 50 I lost the year before, cause I forgot about that mind set and I gotta get motivated again and start making good choices.

Jeff, how soon do you think you will be able to run. Cause i might be young and skinny but when you start running everyday you can run a lot more. I use to have asthma but then i started running everyday and i dont have it anymore and i even run 9 miles a day. I suggest to you that you just plug in some music, zone out, then run. (:
I recently went to a conference where they discussed diabetes. The US is spinning out of control with obesity. The head researcher of diabetes at columbia said that if there aren't some drastic changes that by the year 2050, 1 in 3 people will have diabetes. So it is so important to change the way we live. I admire you for taking that step.
Thanks for sharing Jeff, your completely right losing weight is a lifestyle change i used to be 300 pounds my senior year of high school two years ago, now im 235 pounds and still working at it everyday. The thing is i love food and i eat what i wanna eat (in moderation) but i work out almost everyday, you just gotta stay active taking backpacking trips and playing sports. Keep up the good fight man!

I know someone who did this that weighed around 240 and dropped down to 180 in about 4 months. but exercise a lot and drink a lot of water... remmember water weight is a lot easier to get rid of.

And Jeff is right, its the people you're around that motivate you. I used to hang around with depressing, unsuportive people. Once I made new friends I realized I needed to lose some weight and they helped me get there, specifically my friend who is now my girlfriend....she motivated me the most. Girls are powerful influences on guys, haha its totally true. My motto was "Mind over Body" and what that means is to not let any physical wants (like eating) or pains get in the way of my mental goal
I too lost alot of weight. It feels great, I followed many of the same tips. When I was in 6th grade I weighed 190 lbs and I was about 5feet tall. Now, I'm a senior in high-school, I am about 6 feet tall and I weigh 135. I feel so much better. I lost weight in stages, I originally just wanted to not be fat. Then I wanted to be muscular. Now I'm trying to get that attractive body, I already have the sixpack hehe :) it really is possible!

I cannon relate very much because i have never been over weight but i do lose about twenty pounds every winter for wrestling in highschool although it is not very healthy i eat about 500 calories a day and burn about 3000 and when i get to my weight class i regulate how much i can eat to stay low

1. It's as "simple" as calories in vs. calories out.
2. Write down what you eat each day.
3. Eat for nutritional value, not for pleasure. Food is fuel. Nothing more. Do other things for pleasure... like dating!
4. Make your health #1. If you put your family first, fine, but make your health a top priority!
5. Love yourself (not in an egotistical way) and others will love you too.
6. Change your lifestyle... change your life.
7. You get one body to go through this life in, take care of it!!

This time next year I am hoping to be down to 225 or lower. The guys at my Recruit Center said I need to be below 220 but below 200 is best.

The best part of the videos is the guy behind the camera. I recently saw a documentary called "Fat Head". It is basically an answer to "Super Size Me". I know you have lost a lot of weight and are changing your life style so I thought I would recommend "Fat Head" to you. It is very informative and really goes into the science behind how your body manages to food you take in. Not to mention it's funny!

Truly inspiring! Sure i am young and resonably fit now, because i have an active lifestyle. I like sports. They are loads of fun. The trick is maintaining this lifestyle your entire lifetime. That is the hardest part.

i was 5'8 238lbs the summer of 2009 and from that time to now, i am 150lbs and 5'9. i felt all the same feelings. never went anywhere without a shirt, ate too much, and so forth. i lost the 88lbs not as well as you, but it turned out my thyroid was dead and i had kidney stones. got both cleared up and now i have more energy than a ADHD 7 year old. that and i eat very little meat now too. great job though! i wish my dad could do the same as you. hes 6'3 and 320+ pounds.

food is a drug and it becomes like a drug. Then you get on that cycle crash and burn. But i remember i worked at a telecom place and all the old ladies that where super fat at lunch time would get so pumped up around lunch to order something,

i like swimming, hiking, camping, stuff like that now, although it seems i have the lifestyle of a bear. During the winter i gain weight and the summer i lose it again. and it keeps going like that for years. it's weird, but also normal if it's like just 10 lbs a year. however i can gain like 20+ then burn it off during summer. Although thats not healthy. The wrong food thing is important too, eating healthy and being active, working out is alot of work lol

getting to this video a few days late, so i feel like a broken record saying this with all the other praising comments, but man this is really great. its by far one of your best videos you've ever posted if not the best.
i was a fat blob last year about 250 lbs for my smaller 5 ft 10'' frame at 18 years old, and then went to the cloudforests of Costa Rica to do volunteer work and lived there hiking every day for a month, lost 40 lbs. came back a happier, more active person.

a tip for people who love soda too much to stop drinking it. well wherever you go when your home always take your bottle of water with u , if you want to drink soda stop buying cans or big bottles but buy 0.5l - 1l bottles and always keep them stored in your fridge , u want to drink soda ? well take a small glass fill it with soda and take it with you. when it's finished and are still thirsty you'll rather take a sip of the bottle water next to you than running back to the fridge for soda ..

Honestly... it's all about calories. You can gain weight eating healthy. You can lose weight just by eating snickers bars. The only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in. I still eat everything I ate before... but in much smaller quantities and a lot more exercise. I've lost 50lbs over the last year. I still eat pizza once a week and burgers and fries. But it's 1 burger and 1 fry instead of 2.

Keep it up man, The hardest thing for me loosing weight wasn't actually loosing weight once you get in the right minds set. it was realizing that I gain 30lbs back from the 50 I lost the year before, cause I forgot about that mind set and I gotta get motivated again and start making good choices.

Jeff, how soon do you think you will be able to run. Cause i might be young and skinny but when you start running everyday you can run a lot more. I use to have asthma but then i started running everyday and i dont have it anymore and i even run 9 miles a day. I suggest to you that you just plug in some music, zone out, then run. (:

I recently went to a conference where they discussed diabetes. The US is spinning out of control with obesity. The head researcher of diabetes at columbia said that if there aren't some drastic changes that by the year 2050, 1 in 3 people will have diabetes. So it is so important to change the way we live. I admire you for taking that step.

Thanks for sharing Jeff, your completely right losing weight is a lifestyle change i used to be 300 pounds my senior year of high school two years ago, now im 235 pounds and still working at it everyday. The thing is i love food and i eat what i wanna eat (in moderation) but i work out almost everyday, you just gotta stay active taking backpacking trips and playing sports. Keep up the good fight man!

i know this way is probly not the healthiest way to lose weight but dont eat a lot, and drink a lot of water. I know someone who did this that weighed around 240 and dropped down to 180 in about 4 months. but exercise a lot and drink a lot of water... remmember water weight is a lot easier to get rid of.

And Jeff is right, its the people you're around that motivate you. I used to hang around with depressing, unsuportive people. Once I made new friends I realized I needed to lose some weight and they helped me get there, specifically my friend who is now my girlfriend....she motivated me the most. Girls are powerful influences on guys, haha its totally true. My motto was "Mind over Body" and what that means is to not let any physical wants (like eating) or pains get in the way of my mental goal

I too lost alot of weight. It feels great, I followed many of the same tips. When I was in 6th grade I weighed 190 lbs and I was about 5feet tall. Now, I'm a senior in high-school, I am about 6 feet tall and I weigh 135. I feel so much better. I lost weight in stages, I originally just wanted to not be fat. Then I wanted to be muscular. Now I'm trying to get that attractive body, I already have the sixpack hehe :) it really is possible!

I cannon relate very much because i have never been over weight but i do lose about twenty pounds every winter for wrestling in highschool although it is not very healthy i eat about 500 calories a day and burn about 3000 and when i get to my weight class i regulate how much i can eat to stay low
but a good idea
Would be to get a skinfold test which tells you your body fat percentage and how much you are even able to lose
