I played this game. I'm 26 now and this was my first online game. My parents got AOL and my brother discovered this. Played it for like 2 years. Good times man, thanks for the videos.
Man, I can't tell you how many hours and weeks and months I played this game. It was 5 cents a minute, and there were days when I was on for 20 hours straight. Totally not about the game. It was basically an early virtual reality chat room. Once you maxed your character out, you just spent your time role playing or PVPing with the other people on... and you could only have 500 people in-game, so you had to fight for your spot.
@M2Marknight - Wow I just dug up my game box a put it on Ebay. Memories of my misspent youth, now a misspent middle age. Just say no to MORPG's. I remember how painfully expensive it was at the time. You never forget your first addiction.
What was your NWN name? Were you a NOR or TGC? I was in both actually. I had a NOR cleric called NOR BISHOP and my TGC name is still top secret. haha!
Yeah, it's not likely. You know, playing this game was painful - but not because there was no storyline and I couldn't save. What got me was the sheer emptiness of it, and I couldn't help but think how much fun I would probably have had with it back in the day.
Then again, I was four years old when it came out, so...
I didn't even have net access until 95, and hadn't played my first online game until 96 (Quake). My first real online RPG experience came by way of Diablo in January 97. I would have loved to be online when this was new though.
but considering that, at the time, AOL charged *by the hour*, I doubt I could have afforded it.
Are you sure this is the game you're thinking of? You can't play this game to any sort of conclusion -- there's no storyline that I've found and at any rate you can't save your progress. You'd need a group to even leave the starting areas, but the only existing version of the game client is offline-only.
I don't know of any walkthroughs and I've never seen the original manual, if there even was one.
I played this back in 1995. Was fun with others around and getting ganked was even more fun. PvP was bad. The mages and clerics could only attack and if you were a warrior (like I was) you were screwed in PvP areas
Acording to Wikipedia i just read this was the first graphic mmorpg, now how is this an mmorpg? (massively multiplayer) ???

Text based RPG's are the best, you need to use lots of your imagination and that is awesome :).

Were it up to me, this would be where WoW is now.
Imagine, a turn-based MMORPG. I wonder if such a thing will ever come into existence...
(Long dramatic pause)
Sadly, no.

Didnt know MMOs started back then! pretty early if you ask me.
It looks pretty cool to play with some friends in a group, but singleplayer looks boring.
