  • 1 dislike is from Lee Harvey Oswald (or whoever shot kennedy)

  • Is this about Jackie the Jokeman leaving the Howard Stern show?

  • @DuhEnlightenedOne what? it's about jackie onassis.... lol

  • It's amazing! she's singing to us about Jackie O and Katy Holmes goes on to play her on film!

  • simply beautiful

  • Is it Ay-mose, or Agh-mose

  • i wish she played the whole version

  • those eyes.....like a moth to a flame....zzzzap

  • I know its none of our business about the looks....but you know...if she just let her hair go wild and darken the shade a bit...she'd still look amazing. For me its not the botox/plastic surgery. It's the weird hair that doesnt look real

  • @jessika7381

    That's 'cause it's not real... It's a wig.

  • @jessika7381 i agree with you. the wigs are ridiculous.... she looks like a clown.

  • i love her...

  • @ 2:47 it sounds like she's saying "string" instead of "strength", lol!

  • Goddess.

  • Tori looks stunning here.

  • You guys. Let's be serious. I love Tori more than anything. But she looks SCARY now. It's sad. I was just watching her recent video on Letterman. :( It makes me sad. Look how beautiful she is here.

  • @plurboy15 It's none of our business how she looks. She's not our property. I get that it makes people sad...but I think some go on about it a bit too much.

  • hahaha what? why do I feel people want tori to look like an old hag?

  • pleeeeezz...post your own pic of yourself..shit..just listen!!!

  • come to Buenos Aires

  • It seems to me it's already her 2 brothers at the bass and the drums, Jon E. and Matt C.. Can anyone confirm that?

  • actually, if you look it up, and if you've been following her career, you'll see that make-up isn't something she uses in favor of simpyl beautifying things, but rather as a key performance element (as all the really great artists understand). So to say she's wearing too much makeup is beyond the point, even more so because this is no simple make-up, it's a work of art done by the hands of the genius that was Kevyn Aucoin.

  • If you look it up, you'll find him describing precisely this make-up composition and what it represented:)

  • who's to blame HER? vanity is NOT a bad thing, unless it governs your life & choices, and that's certainly not the case with her. It's great to want to look your best, to take care of yourself. I think it's sad when people think because someone is an engaged person with the causes of the world, that they can't have the right to still be human. And that performance is from 1998, anyway, so according to your own standards, that performance aspect to her look is stil "acceptable'. lol

  • Governs your life and career to an extent perhaps to which you have to photoshop your album cover to look like a zombie falling from the sky?

  • what if that pleases her? what if that's how she wants to be portrayed? clearly, the photoshop is there to enhance the message in the images - how do peopel kepe failing to see that? Look at David LaChapelle's AMAZING work and it's all photoshopped, but not to hide anything, it's to make the true essence of the images he creates stand out, rather!

  • you can't say that she's governed by vanity, that's a very very poor judgement on her. If she were, she'd be singing about lots of stuff other than what she addresses and what matters to her. And whatever the case, it's hardly HER choice to have her album cover photoshopped - unless it's with that intent of letting what matters to get the message of the image get across.

  • You guys seem so biased by the fact she's changed her look. It's nobody's life but her own, and still, she's not betraying ANY of the values she's ever advocated to get so much flack for that.

  • In fact, if you search through her radio interviews from that exact same time-period as this video, 1998, she talks about photoshop (some SPIN cover she did that year, I believe) and how she doesn't object to it. She's not to blame if ppl have gone crazy creating inexistent images that club down ppl's self-steem from that time on to now, even 'cos she's never used it to create an image that is oppressive to people's self-steem.

  • she understands a photographic representation is an artistic manifestation that has its own language, it's own world, its own tools & perks. She doesn't expect people to confuse a visual representation of her with the real person, but rather identify in that visual representation elements & subjects which she's willing to express, hence the argument of using photoshop like in LaChapelle's work, to enhance the message instead of to mislead.

  • I wish they would release her Letterman performances on DVD - they are amazing. Check out Father Lucifer as well

  • That's a fantastic idea. :) I wish it could come true someday.

I agree, her Father Lucifer Letterman performance is brilliant, one of the best FL solo I've heard.

  • what about precious things! she came out on fire

  • This is the best out of all the live Jackie's strength i have....she is amazing

  • i have to agree --this is definitely the best live performance of the song i've seen....plus she looks fantastic

  • David Letterman is such a Tori fan, love it!!!

  • Jesus Christ, I own over 1000 CD's and I never heard this song. So beautiful, very pleased to have found it. Will go to the shop tomorrow and buy the album. Such a great song! Fantastic voice and articulation, even though I already knew Tori Amos I am very impressed right now.

  • @wagenna and the rest of the album will not disappoint you. From the Choirgirl Hotel is a masterpiece. Enjoy.

  • These are the kind of Tori songs (slower and haunting) that really show her true genius as both a storyteller and a composer of heartbreakingly beautiful melodies. The instrumentation for this song's chorus is simply outstanding, and her ability to write lyrics that touch the heart while actually making the listener THINK ranks her with the greatest in this genre of music.

  • That's why she is my Goddess

  • colorguard stretches to this song <3 this song man its sooo peaceful

  • amazing

  • Tori Looks GREAT here right? So happy she is still working it... I pray for Tori's Strength :)

  • it's called a C.D. HAHAH

  • For the record, live Tori >>>> Tori music videos.

    kthxbi

  • she is absolutely fabulous!

  • love the song

but hate the "clunky piano" sound from this tour

it sounded so crisp and clean between 1991-1997

anyone else know what I'm talking about?

  • absolutely! i was wondering why nobody else noticed. i wonder if it was tuned slightly different or something? i don't know, but i find it really annoying.

  • glad Im not the only one!

I actually bitched about it years back on the Tori Atforumz

and I was told that during the 98 tour

    (and 99 too I think)

she played the piano through some machine

or with something extra that gave it that clunked up fucked up sound

not sure...why Tori would have wanted that...but

at least it made me feel better that I wasn't hearing things!

  • i was reading before that they had to put the Bösendorfer through a MIDI sampler, because she was touring with the band. Micing the piano wouldn't have worked, because the mics would have picked up too much background noise? can't remember if that's exactly the reason i read, but i know micing the piano would have compromised the sound, so they used MIDI instead.

  • That's exactly why, xSteven. Her piano here (she owns like 2 or 3 Bösendorfer 290's,) is a disklavier, and has a Kurzweil MIDI system built into it, so it can be played either acoustically or electronically. I use Kurzweil faithfully, so I adore the sound. It is also the only one she can use with Bösendorfers - the large ones have 9 extra keys in the bass, and Kurzweil is the only keyboard that has those 9 extra notes actually sampled, which contributes to the darkness of the MIDI sound.

  • I think that's why now most of her concerts have the piano lid nearly closed. It blocks out more sound. I didn't know they actually ran it through a sampler, though!

  • i think this version is amazing...

my breath is taken away right now haha.

and shes gorgeous BY THE WAY

  • Amazing, beautiful, wonderful!!

  • how many times I've fallen asleep to this song..

  • She's a goddess.

  • Tori is absolutely amazing! <3

  • This is the song that got me into Tori, and for that I will always adore it. Beautiful performance as always!

  • possibly the most beautiful chorus in the history of pop music??? YES!!!!

  • Yeah the chorus is fucking beautiful!

  • Genius. Simply genius.

  • what was that clip at the beginning with katie holmes and tori???

  • Plurboy15: I have that on tape (somewhere!)and I remembered it because Katie just TOWERED over Tori - i think it was from 1996, the first song released from "Pele". Caught a Lite Sneeze. I could really be wrong though. I'll check if you are still interested. (Or maybe the poster can help?)Or was it Hey Jupiter - i think that's it. :-) 1996 at any rate!

  • cool thanks! what do u mean she towered over her? like physically she was taller?

  • Yeah Kati Holmes is like 5'10'' and i think Tori is 5'1'' or 2''.

  • this was when she performed Spark on Jay Leno on May 11, 1998!

  • Great performance! Her eyes are mesmerizing!

  • Is that actually how you pronounce her family name? AmOs?

  • yes, that is how it's pronounced.

  • everytime I've heard her say her name she says amos as 'a-mis'.

  • I think it just sounds different with different accents, although Tori and Letterman both have American Accents lol

I pronounce it the same as Tori does, that why I know I can't be wrong haha :P

  • I've found the east coasters tend to say A-mos and west coasters say A-mis. She says A-mis, but I've never heard her correct anyone one way or another.

It's like how people say Oregon as Ora-gone or Or-again.

  • I'm on the east coast and I've only heard A-mis... I've heard her call one of her parents A-mis, somewhere.. LOL.

  • I'm from Michigan and I always thought her name was A-mis because, well, that's how she says it and I assume she knows how to say her name. =p

Of course, this prompts my younger brother to call her "Tori Anus." He's a kid, what do you expect? x_x

  • Beautiful song!

  • Flawless ; )

  • woah she's brilliant

  • This song always makes me cry, and this performance isn't far behind ;)

    Thanks for sharing.

  • One of her prettiest compositions, beautifully performed. Love the way she tosses her head ! Make me laugh Say you know what you want You said we were the real thing So I show you some more and I learn What black magic can do Make me laugh Say you know you can turn Me into the real thing So I show you some more And I learn
  • So awesome. This is the kinda stuff that got me into Tori.

  • I LOVE this performance, it's my favorite of all her Letterman appearances. Tori looks so amazing!
