This is such a beautiful, informative, true-to-life show. I really really hope it gets better ratings in the future, because it SO deserves it. It's a little like what reality TV would be like if it was meaningful and poetic.
I think I've got bit of a "bromance" going on for the dude going on here - (see google,co.uk !!!!) - - he was the BEST in the role of Al Giordino in Sahara (yeah, yeah I know.........) soooooooooooooooo superb ......... and in Treme he;s one of the BEST actors - ...................... seriously one of the most involving characters - sorry, I'm in the UK so I'm abit behind you guys in the US (we love you buy the way ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, f*ck what the media say)
God Bless & Love to all of the people of New Orleans, I (and the people of the the United Kingdom)......... give you our Love and RESPECT in your time of extreme loss and hardship. Words are only slight comfort:

The season finale made me cry. I love this show. I can't wait till the next season start in April... One of my friends is actually in this season. I'm so excited... Wish I would have signed up to be an extra or something...
This track is not by Danny Barker & The Baby Dodds Trio. It was recorded in NYC probably in about 1947 & features Danny Barker on guitar & vocals, Don Kirkpatrick on piano, Heywood Henry on baritone saxophone, and Freddie Moore (NOT Baby Dodds) on drums. This and three other tracks were recorded by Barker to be played on juke boxes. Sadly, they were pressed onto 78 rpm discs only for Barker to find that most places had converted their jukes to 45 rpm only.
Finally got my copy of the Baby Dodds Trio in the mail. Had to order it from Half.com if anyone else wants to get it. Amazon should have a few copies.
I love this version, and this scene from the show hits me hard. I grew up in Louisiana, and am still learning about the Indians. Treme should have racked up a barrel of Emmys for 2010, but people don't understand our culture. Some might say it's racism, but who knows. Hollywood block votes on these things, as I know, I was nominated 2 years ago.
@bluesmeister2006 Congratulations on being nominated. Anyway, I know that awards like the Emmy, the Oscar, etc., are essentially silly, based on an invalid premise, but I still really wanted TREME to get some high-profile accolades that way. Don't know a lot about the various aspects of Louisiana's culture, but love learning about it, and especially from this series. LOVE this show!
I get goosebumps when I hear this song...Waiting patiently for season2, the DVD for season 1 and the opportunity to get back to New Orleans. It is an amazing City...
Actually, I believe the whole Indian thing is about the Creoles finding their way to N.O. The creoles had tribes. The version of french spoken there comes from the Acadians that made their way there after the great deportation from Canada.
Without a doubt this is thee best version of this song!! If you can listen to this and not tap your feet or even better get up and dance - well, you have ZILCH in the love of music!! Thanks so much LTmattYT for putting this out here for everyone to enjoy!!
@AbdulazizM1982 well yeah, from mardi gras indians. blacks in new orleans do the whole indian thing because the indians thought it was wicked for man to own man, and thus helped the blacks back in the day when whites were asking indians to help contain the slaves. kinda like they're bonding over a common enemy. lol
@LTmattYT I see, thanks mate. I really love the show since I love all of Simon's works, but this actually makes me like the city of New Orleans very much, I feel like if I went there I'd make a lot of friends in one day!
@LTmattYT Interesting, and thanks. Yet, I only recently learned that, before the Civil War, there were some Indians/Native Americans (apparently mostly relatively assimilated into the white folks' culture, due to factors like intermarriage) who did own African-heritage slaves, and did not support abolition. Nothing is without complexity, no matter how much we might want things simple.
@AbdulazizM1982 i am from new orleans. well the mardi gras indians after Slavery in Louisiana no one went to any thing with the free slave's they hook up with the indians around louisiana. now they celebrat when the indians help them out. the chief is the person how get them together. and they put on a relly good show
The correct lineup for Barker's My Indian... is: Barker voc and tambourin; Heywood Henry, bar. sax; Johnny Williams, bass; drummer Fred Moore; and Howard Mandolph (also spelled as Mendolf and Mandolf) piano. Recorded in NYC circa 1955, and released on Barker's own "King Zulu Records" label. More about that in a future article about the great DB. Cheers Per Oldaeus.

I love the show but I need to understand "chief" and his songs, what's the origin of it? Are they all old Indian and tribal stuff?
