Another poor performance from this charismatic singer. Just listen to the first phrase. Horror. Nothing she can do maybe, her technique is just false. Will see how much more she sings. Hopefully her voice will be strong enough to survive the terrible posture that her technique has installed in her larynx.
I realise the lady is pregnant during the performance. However, this is not good. This is especially true when one can observe that many of the truly great divas set some of the most perfect and definitive recordings when pregnant. Hmm… there is very little support for the voice and frankly I see a shelf life of say another 5 years for this singer. A pity… some of ‘her’ work from 2003 – 2005 was very promising.

She needs to work on her pitch precision in some of the runs. Her voice simply cannot move fast enough for this coloratura art song. It is too heavy and ends up sounding sloppy. Why sing it if you can't even sing half the notes? Terrible.

Darkness or brightness is a matter of color; her voice is certainly light and agile when it needs to be, so I don't see why she shouldn't be a lyric; lyric coloratura sums her up pretty well. And what an awesome song! I totally love it!

I really LOVE Sumi Jo, but her rendition of il bacio is not the best (I prefer Sutherland's, Rita Streich's and Noriko Takano's renditions).
But who cares? Sumi Jo is a coloratura soprano, so she can sing anything she wants, just the way she wants, including mezzo soprano arias, and nobody say a word.
But if a mezzo or a soprano with a darker voice dares to sing a coloratura soprano aris, it doesn't matter how good it is, everybody wants her head.
That's why I completely hate being a mezzo-soprano! We have no freedom to sing!
I think sopranos with darker voices have the same feeling, too.
Anna's rendition is beautiful, and her darkes voice make it sounds full of passion! Like a real woman would sing, not like a little girl in ponytail bunches.

i have to agree, her voice isnt agile enough for coloratura, and she could end up damaging it struggling as she's out of her depth. Sumi Jo sings this 100x better.
I think she has excellent technique. Having watched her and listend to several recordings of Anna, and being a singer myself, I am constantly in awe at the ease she exudes when she performs. It just looks so natural. Like it takes no effort for that amazing sound to come out of her.
Plus, her rather forceful style considered:) She is not exactly one of those butterfly-like coloraturas, is she? And, with all that fireworks of fioriture, her diction is near perfect.
San Francisco 2009 - from real criitcs - "From the opening scene dressed in a white sequined gown, followed by a black evening dress at the gambling parlor to her final dying scene in negligee, she epitomized elegance, grace, and astonishing beauty. Her voice has become fuller with ample power in all octaves. She has incredible dynamic range from a poignant whisper to full exclamatory willpower, with joy and angst. At times, she had to hold back somewhat so as not to over sing Alfredo"
Compare her with Deanna Durbin. Durbin is not even an opera singer but sings this much more in keeping with how it should be sung. Netrebko is as usual over-extending the piece. Much too "schwerig".
Her italian is not very convincing and her rests are sloppy. Her voice is too big for this song. lol Also, watch her head move with almost every fast note. She shouldn't be singing this song.
I like Ms.Netrebko because she is so charismatic and has a beautiful stage presence! Just......precious :)))

i have to agree, her voice isnt agile enough for coloratura, and she could end up damaging it struggling as she's out of her depth. Sumi Jo sings this 100x better.

I think she has excellent technique. Having watched her and listend to several recordings of Anna, and being a singer myself, I am constantly in awe at the ease she exudes when she performs. It just looks so natural. Like it takes no effort for that amazing sound to come out of her.

Compare her with Deanna Durbin. Durbin is not even an opera singer but sings this much more in keeping with how it should be sung. Netrebko is as usual over-extending the piece. Much too "schwerig".

Her italian is not very convincing and her rests are sloppy. Her voice is too big for this song. lol Also, watch her head move with almost every fast note. She shouldn't be singing this song.

Bad Singing? For bad singing you must listen to Rita Streich's Il bacio for a verry muddy and unpolished interpretation.
