@carwash98 it depends on how well maintained the system is -particularly the air compressor and foaming pads. an air compressor problem will also affect presoak quality and may even cause freezing damage (air is used to purge the lines at the end of the wash program). bad foaming pads are a lot more common. I've read all you have to do is open the applicators and stuff them with new scotch-brite pads or plastic pot scourers. got a dollar store nearby? :)
Speaking of fail, there is one close to me which was still in operation despite having VERY serious problems. For one thing, the swivel which connects the arch hose on the ceiling was cracked and was spilling water all over the place, resulting in greatly reduced pressure. This also killed the presoak and spot-free rinse. And the dry foam nozzles were iced over!
I dunno. The foam does come out in a curious manner, but it does cover the car completely. I've noticed this on a number of Laser 4000 machines, actually. It might just be that the air pressure is a bit low?
I wouldent have replaced it with a g5s series or m5 I like the laser wash 4000 so much mor it cleans better and g5 gets crappy laser wash 400 is a clasic I dont even like the new laserwash 4000 is just like a m5
M5 is the same exact machine with new graphics and a new control system. It has the same nozzles that let the water decelerate to being a powerless mist before hitting the car.
@hyvahyva thats probably because it has a sta rite pump vs a pro con to deliver the soap. They are becoming more and more popular on 4000's because people are sick of changing procons.
@hyvahyva hey i am the oner of thefreakyourmind13 i got hacked buy somr guy and he changed it but i just got a letter from pdq and i asked about that they say they put covers on the new laserwash to look like the 4000 and i am just curius why is the 4000 bad or somthing are you complaining or are you saying i love my laserwash 4000 or what and can you sub to me ill sub back!!!!!?????!!!!!????!!!???!!!???!!!
@carwashpdq At the time I made this video, this machine did kind of suck. The nozzles were messed up. It's been fixed up since and works great. I used it to clean up after trying to use a Ryko Softgloss XS that got completely stuck behind my car and shot it out of the wash bay!! There's an error code in the Ryko software for "Front arms behind vehicle" -- it was so messed up it didn't recognize that condition, and just poured on the motor current... POOT!
I went through a Mark VII Aquajet w/ Turtle Wax products at a Hess Station (now a Cigto) & the water smelled like poop! Then I went through an Aquajet at a Mobil Station in Lake Mary & the Clearcoat smelled like ham!
I used to run 5 car washes. All of them had some 3000's at them.
Every morning I'd try my best to scare as many birds out of the dryers as I could, but... well u can guess what happens when those propellers start spinning.
I guess this would explain why I've seen discs of 'hardware cloth' over the dryer inlets and outlets around here! We've got lots of birds around, as we're on one of the major seasonal migration routes.
This, incidentally, is why I take my car to the car wash so much. BOMBS AWAY!
Right now, I've been watching Baltimore Orioles, Blue Jays, and all sorts of finches flying past.
One of the automatic's dryer had a 3 second delay before it kicked on. So it was always launching shredded birds on cars. Most people rush to get under it so that they can get as much time as possible, but I'd advise to wait a second
I always wait until all the blowers have spun up, and, if applicable, the follower has lowered fully. The timer doesn't seem to even start until you leave the treadle.
Well, if you happen to be looking after a wash again, get a roll of hardware cloth, and secure it WELL over the dryer openings. (Do NOT leave any way for it to get loose or get into the blower -- you'll have one hell of a vehicle damage case on your hands.)
We have a few Laserwash 4000's here in Volusia County & at Clean n' Go Car Wash in Port Orange, we have 2 G5-S' made by PDQ. We also have some Softgloss XS', Voyagers, 1 Monarch II HI, & a Water Wizard.
masonk1991 gave me the specs on it a couple weeks ago... the Monarch II HI machine actually has the highest water flow of all the Ryko touch-free machines. It ought to send bird poop flying into low-earth orbit.
Yours is actually more reliable; the docking dryer is notorious for causing... issues. Notably, it'll disconnect from the machine halfway through the drying stage, and cause a shutdown. It's a neat concept, but poor implementation. The Laserwash M5 and G5 S-Series both have dryers permanently mounted to the machine. The newer dryers don't work as well as the old 4000 series "Laserwind", unfortunately.
When you say STINKS.. Do you mean the rather pronounced sulfurous odor? There's a 4000 near me that does that too. I was postulating that it was perhaps due to the water recycler (reverse osmosis?).
It really is reminiscent of flatulence.
I try not to take my newer car through these things after discovering just how many operators use hydrofluoric acid in their mix. I have good glass and don't want to see it frosted.
The R.O. system creates no odor. If it's a foul moldy odor, however, this may be due to bacterial growth. Unfortunately, some operators do use reclaim water with no disinfection system, so it grows SLIME!!! Ozone or UV sterilizer systems are, in my opinion, a must. Otherwise, you're gonna get stinkiness.
I do know that some presoaks contain sulfur.
Also, when the base and acid stages of a 2-stage presoak react, it can lead to some stinkiness due to ingredients of both being outgassed.
It is like water again. The owner let most of the chemicals run out!!
This is part of why I like Ryko machines better. They have better diagnostic systems which will complain quite noticeably if the machine runs low, or out, of chemicals. I can't even tell if Laserwash 4000 machines have sensors for that!
And, the other day, I saw a similar one delivering a comically stripey presoak... undoubtedly leading to a very stripey car. It was downright surreal; the machine dispensed perfect horizontal bands of presoak. If you were to have put a red car in there, it would have come out looking like Waldo's shirt.
I agree 4000s are crap. Also, they seem unsafe because of the HUGE wires on the sides.

Is it me or do all laserwash 4000s apply an uneven amount of triple foam?

That's a Mobil car wash.

The majority of problems with these machines come from poor maintenance. They do a very good job if they are set up and maintained properly.

@TheFreakyourmind13 Nah, it's not mine, or I would have replaced it with a G5 S-Series by now. :D
Also, when the heck did Youtube just start doing Twitter-style replies? Ye gods... "Web 2.0" - it's all about who you can copy first.

Try the M5, Tandem RiteTouch, or SpectraWash. Or maybe the Water Wizard (Jim Coleman), Trio (Ryko), whole 9 yards.
3dkidsartfairs 3 years ago
I've used an M5 before. It's basically a 4000 with blue shiny graphics, the new led signs, and a really loud, ineffecive onboard (non-docking) dryer.
Nobody has a Trio around here, or Water Wizard. Weird, right?
hyvahyva 3 years ago
Yeah, the Laserwash 4000 near my house got water in my trunk!
This one seems nicer though because with mine, you have to drive out to dry, and it gives you a timer.
