Funny, i was just reading about this (again) in one of my many Beatles books last night, and I happen to stumble on this this morning. So glad to finally see it. Thank You.
This is so funny.....Ringo was great, especially (as always) on the drums,
and his alter ego/look-a-like, Ognir,
was absolutely hilarious!! I was pleased that "It Don't Come Easy", With A Little Help from My Friends" and a snippet of "Octopus's Garden" were included in the program, but disappointed that "Photograph" wasn't. Oh well, you can't please 'em all! :-)
RIP to Mike Douglas, Vincent Price and Art Carney as well. I wish Ringo would release this to home video, but he's probably embarrassed by it as much as George Lucas is about "The Star Wars Christmas Special" also written by the same writers and circa 1978.
He has GOOD REASON to be embarrassed! Not necessarily that he appeared in this program, but that he TURNED DOWN scripts for TV specials that were written by both the Firesign Theatre and the team of Graham Chapman (Monty Python) and Douglas Adams (Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy)! - 1b2s
Oh I didn't know that Ringo Starr will receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010. I love Ringo's Music and he is a very deserving Musician. Thank you for posting this tele-movie!!!
Thank you VERY MUCH for posting this. It's a great big hunk of 70's television cheese, but I remember watching it that summer of 78. Hey, it was Ringo and Carrie Fisher from STAR WARS! What 13 year old nerd could resist! It like the "You're 16" video the best, and it's really the only thing I remembered from the show. Reminds me of those 7-Up commercials from the 70's as well.
George looks impossible. Taste is the one thing you cannot argue about.

The George Harrison opening nod to the Rutles special that had appeared the week before was brilliant.

We love you Ringo! Great to hear he'll be on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!
Also, is it me or does George's speech at the beginning remind you a bit of Ringo's Mr. Conductor Intro? lol
