later, it still gives me chills. a true classic from Eugene Pitt and the guys..

  • just a perfect song.

  • As I sat and listened to this song - I thought what a wonderful era we had the good fortune to grow up in.....Yes some of us had rough times back then - but the MUSIC - the music was always there for us. We could always turn on the radio or play the jukebox or watch American Bandstand and there was OUR music........Thanks - love this song........

  • @MrK,

Great music, socially not great if you weren't Caucasian.

  • Love, Love, Love this song!!!!!

  • oh yes,

I agree, great slooooooow dance to this fantastic song!!

    1961,today, tomorrow

    what a wonderful true story!!

  • Fantastic and beautiful song! Brings back so many great memories growing up in Philly in the 50's and 60's,when these doowop songs were at all of the weekly dances. No booze, drugs, or fights. Just dancing, doowop, cool cars, and basically a stress free life.

  • @CherokeeLD

Brings me back to west Philly. Good times

  • the top comment of a 5secondfilm video sent me here

  • apparently 4 haters!!!!!

  • who can dislike this song ??????

  • @mherman777 Nobody. That's why there's only 4 dislikes :P

  • This is my Father's favorite song. My Dad was in a doo-wop group. They even cut an album in 1959. Their group was called "The Del Reys" their song that was out on the radio was call "Have a Heart.' for all the doo-wop fans out there I hope you'll check it out here on You tube. Oh My God, what an era. I wish so bad that this was when I grew up.

  • Memories of Carlos Rauda...I wonder where you are at times...love x wife Patty

  • I was born in the wrong era.

  • Great slooooow dance song brings back memories of, uh, 1961, and our dances at Oakland High. Do they still have high school dances?

  • I might just agree with you thetruewindrunner!! Well nearly!!!

  • Might be the best of the post doo wop era tracks ever recorded.

  • thumbs up if you were born in the wrong era?

  • @MrKrazykev13 Belive me, I know I was.

  • @MrKrazykev13 hhmmm, I am not happy with the circumstances of our world these days, so I feel that may have some weight on my answer. Thumbs up cat.

  • "....The names have been changed dear, to protect you and I"

Now THOSE are lyrics, which help to make this song eternally heartfelt matched only by the impassioned harmonies.

  • I forgot how great this song sounded. What a tremendous song with fantastic harmonies. Remenber hearing this song at the church confratertinty dances in Brooklyn! Thanks...thanks...thanks....for the memories

  • Thank you for uploading this song for me. It really brings back memories....

  • Love this song I was 18 when it came out.......wow.

  • This song was 50 years ago no.8 in the world charts #jive #five

  • One of the all time great oldie songs and group.

  • If you love this music, go to : tlsoundco on the web and select livefeed. This is legendary Pittsburgh DJ Terry Lee's audio stream. TL streams a mix of doo-wop and obscure 60s rock / surf / proto-punk 24/7, with live feeds 4 nights a week. 10PM to midnight is "Music For Young Lovers", a recreation of TL's 1960s radio soundtrack for submarine race watching. Doo-wop heaven! Terry takes requests and his doo-wop library is huge. ENJOY!

  • BEST GROUP EVER! THANKS FOR GIVING US THE NICKELODEON SONG :3

  • WE HAD A CLUB IN ST. ALBANS QUEENS, NAME LE QUATRE JIVE AFTER THIS WONDERFUL GROUP, THIS BRINGS BACK SO MANY MEMORIES, HOPE YOU GUYS ARE STILL ALIVE AND WELL

  • i am 18 and i listen to to this music its so nice to live in those days but

  • Haven't heard this in so many years, when my father left for work i use to have friends over & we danced ,boy did we dance my father doubled back one afternoon & caught us boy was i in trouble....i cried my blues away lol i must have been 14 or 15

  • This song still makes me teary same as it did when I was 15 years old. And the rest of you with your sweet comments and memories aren't helping any, either! Isn't it weird how a song can transport you right back in time, with all the feelings and longings? I can see my Mom in her "house dress" (hee, hee, remember those?) warming up the coffee!

  • here name was Dixie Lou Davis and we danced to this song and I never wanted to let go.

  • @mommypohl lots of songs made you tearyeyed back in the day , but it was the best especially dancing belly to belly

  • @mommypohl I am all teared up tonight listening to "my" music.

The whole part of it..walking to get that precious 45 and the pure joy as it

    came out that little speaker.

Nobody can tell me that the kids of today get the same feelings with music.

Number 1 the writing and the voices were so fantastic. And the experience

of buying that little record was so sweet. The kids of today just will never

    know those sweet moments.

    class of 66

  • Over the years I have worn out (3) 45"s, one 8-track and 2 casettes playing this song. I have it on two CD's now.....

  • I am norman johnson's son. My mom and sisters love this Mr. Pitt we are trying to contact you.

  • @normansson65 Which one of the gents in this photo is Eugene Pitt?

  • @57highland Eugene Pitt is on the top right. What a voice.

  • my daughter said all the songs you listen to are sooo sad, maybe so but they evoke memories of beautful people and a wonderful time

  • This is the kind of music that brings back memories of nicer times. Sweet sincere love, and the promise of staying together forever. My wife and I danced to this in our day, and I'm happy to say that 41 years later we're still dancing to it. Long live Doo Wop.

  • I love this song. I'm 18 and this is a great song to listen to. I love all doo wop music. My friends think I'm crazy liking this music. But I sooner listen to a nice song like this than the rap crap out now all about drugs and violence!

  • @Philssux15 Doo Wop will always make you reflect, no matter what age. i am too young myself to have seen these guys. Most important is ,you smile and get a chill up the spine from those vocals!! That must have been insane!! Dudes Harmonizing on the corner of a street in the Bronx or Harlem or Philly!!! and you could just step in and snap your fingers and -if ya could sing, do some backup harmonies!!

  • @Philssux15 So right. Rap makes me puke.

  • Fantastic...

  • Memories, memories that's all that if left from this era. Songs that will live in infamy

  • Thank you onrockpile 1966 for the comment. I am so glad I got to read it!!

  • @circle5dreamer Hi - its all true to boot!

  • Wow thanks for posting! Have been looking for this one for ages! :-)

  • A song which transports you back to Newark NJ. Sitting on the stoop and harmonizing with this song. Nothing today, puts a dent in this song as far as harmonizing.

  • How can a piece of vintage music probably 50 years old make me cry???

    Because its truely BRILLIANT

    Thanks for sharing!

  • A #1 hit for The Jive Five on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It also hit #3 on the Top 40 charts. It was the 83rd #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. Well, it seems that before The Jackson 5, there was another J5. Agree or disagree? Feel free to reply.

  • sad song. but when I listen to it when I feel down I feel better. beautiful.

  • What a great song. Thanks for sharing

  • Beautiful! One of my all time favorite songs! I miss those old Rock & Roll days!

  • I met a girl in Sept, 1961, high school, at a dance in the gym, Friday night after the game. We danced to "My True Story", hurts and pains felt better, it was "our song", we went "steady", drive-in movies, my 55 Chevy, Vietnam-USMC, lost friends, college, lost parents, more lost friends, new tragedies, today, that girl and I are still together, a son, a daughter, three grandaughters, two grandsons, and a dog named Blu - we danced to "My True Story" last night, and the pains felt better.

  • @onrockpile1966

sounds all too familiar rockpile - could have been a SP of us

back then and like you with the same girl, son and a daughter with

    2 g'daughters and 3 g'sons . . and a Bloodhound named

'Beau' - though I did have a Redbone named Blu but she

has passed on. Keep playin' those oldies Marine - Semper Fi

  • @onrockpile1966 Welcome Home. One of my friends that served in Nam always says Happy Birthday regardless of the day. He says when you've lived through things like Nam - every day is your birthday. Thank you for your service. You and your wife are truly blessed. This song makes me laugh and cry at the same time. Instantly brings up the most tender memories and love and loss. All the best to yo.

  • this is the best rock and roll song i've ever heard

  • So beautiful and sad.

  • Released in 1961 on the Beltone label this reached #1 on the R & B charts and #3 on the pop charts. Lead vocals by Eugene Pitt, My True Story sounds like it could have been released during the mid '50's with it's classic doo wop sound. By 1961 there were not many vocal groups performing this style of music and this was surely one to remember!

  • you had to be able to SING and carry a tune back in the day....no synthasizers and overdubs.....not too many have the pipes nowaday (or the courage to sing without all the tech help)

  • SCHODUL

  • just because for some reason you dont like todays music doesnt mean it takes no skill, actually you should try to write a top 10 hit and see how it goes

  • @reptarxalice ,have you heard some of the singers today, they cant sing live

  • @tuzwol keyword: some.

  • i agree back when music took some skill. Singing and being on note is not as easy as people think.

  • AllenShaw6970says: This was a HUGE oldie in Pittsburgh in the early 60's. Porky Chadwick introduced it and it really took off.

  • GREAT !!! Back when music was still sensible

  • There will never be music like the music from the fifties again!Too bad!

  • man, I remeber I was 10, and had a crush on this guy, we both loved this song, and it takes me right back there. Yes people, 10-year-olds have deep crushes that are never forgotten
