  • Not Steller point but Stella point

  • Epic proposal at 20000 ft is epic!

  • @CommieBastard93 Thanks! Thank-you for watching and commenting! Are you married? If so, where did you propose? Greetings from Milan, Italy.

  • @strive4impact Ahh no, I wish to have that pleasure one day. For now all I can say is that that was an excellent proposal an I plan to make this hike one day! Cheers from San Diego, California, USA :)

  • @CommieBastard93 Thank-you for your compliment and I hope you have the pleasure as well. Been awesome for us.

  • Definitely make the hike soon. It's worth everything that it takes to make it happen.

  • Wow this is one of my dreams! I'm gonna do this someday :) congrats!

  • @BambinoBiondo Thank-you for your congrats! John Addison tells a story about how "Some people's somedays become a handful of people's everydays." You should decide when you're going and go for it! Kili was an expensive travel and hard work to get in shape, but if you want to do it, go for it. Just decide when and go for it. Once you make the decision, you'll figure out how to make it work.

  • @strive4impact great advice

  • @BambinoBiondo thats great advice. sometimes you just gotta get up and do it........no excuses or reasons not to. just do it. and i know you can. if you ask then you already know the answer..........

  • Please take a look of my video flying over Kili on 15th October 2010. There's just about no snow!

  • @speakswahilidammit It's not like it was all snow when we were there, but wow. That looks pretty crazy. I'm sure it's cyclical, and October would be the lowest snow point of the year... but still... wow.

  • @strive4impact I agree, & that's what I thought too. I grew up in Tanzania, & went to boarding school in Arusha. On clear days both Meru's & Kili's summits were so-visible, & both icing-sugar white! Just returned from first visit in 44 years, after making my life, career, marriage, family, etc, in Cornwall, UK (folks from here). Wonderful to be back, but I fear for the future welfare of the watu (& nature itself) in Tanzania. Heard about Kikwete's plan to drive a highway through Serengeti?

  • @speakswahilidammit Would that be allowed? Would there not be a large global opposition to protect the serengeti? I guess I don't know about all the political plays involved, but that seems like something that would draw the ire of people around the world...

  • @strive4impact Hi, do you mind telling me which tour operator you used?

  • @tonyimmaculate We used KCSummits. Can find them on Google easily. Kevin owns the company and has summitted Everest. He's a great guy and comes very recommended.

Tell him Carrie And Jonathan say hi!

  • can someone please recommend a tour guide that theyve had success with in climbing mt. kili? thank you!

  • cant remember much of the ascent or summit. felt drunk with altitude sickness. do remember crying when reached top. what a view !

  • @mcscootie Too bad you don't remember too much, but hope this video brought back some good memories! Does for me.

  • Naw that was such a good climb. We did it end of 2009, coming down on new years. We weren't allowed to leave at midnight though, had to leave at 3am instead because of our group - we had a 10 year old, 11 year old, 13 year old, 14 year old (me!) and 15 year old. Plus 4 parents. Our guides were worried about the 10 year old (with no reason, none of us kids got sick at all)!!!! Good times.

  • So Amazing . Congratulations , i hope i will be able to it some day :)

  • @SupHowsItGoing Don't hope... just go and do it. It will be expensive, but it's absolutely worth it. Find a way to make it happen. It's worth it.

  • @strive4impact I've been planning a climb, what guide did you use?

  • @tyhillman21 Google "KCSummits". Kevin Cherilla has climbed Everest. He was the trip organizer. It was a bit more expensive with Kevin, but the difference (why we paid more) was clear when we were on the mountain and 15 people out of our 17 person group summitted. It was because Kevin knew what to watch out for and who to work with locally there in Tanzania. He comes highly recommended... again, google KCSummits

  • Going in the summer :D

  • @CoIlateralDamage Awesome! Take extra batteries for your camera.

  • An excellent achievement, congratz. Always been something I would love to do and watching videos like yours is a real boost.

  • @xxxBLACKNOVAxxx Thanks for your nice comment! Definitely make plans and go and do it. One of the best and most difficult things I've ever done.

  • I am doing it in 2011 when i am 12 i cant wait

  • Awesome! Congratulations!

We had a 13 year old with our group and she did fantastic in reaching the summit.

Come back and comment if you think about it. Would love to know about your experience!

  • Great video! I want to hike this mountain and raise money for charity as well. I don't know when but I am hoping sometime around 2012-2013!!!

  • Do it in 2011. If you don't set a goal for that soon, you'll keep putting it off. It's expensive, but worth it.

  • looks like a cool place

  • Was truly amazing.

  • para

    "fuckingpillock"

El viaje os lo pagasteis de vuestro bolsillo ó a costa de la recaudación?

Si fué a costa de la recaudación vaya puto morro que tenéis, se me caería la cara de vergüenza.

  • Good on yer guys, wonderful video, and congrats on the proposal! :D

We're going next year, raising money for charity. Tis a noble thing to do. :)

  • Nice! Congratulations and would love to hear the results of your fundraising! What charity are you raising money for?

    Warmest,

    Jonathan

  • We're raising money for two charities, Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and Out of Afrika. We managed to get an agreement from Team Kilimanjaro that if we raised an agreed amount for OoA, they'd let us climb for free, and all the extra cash we raised would ALL go to the MDC. It's taking a long time to plan, but it's all part of the adventure. I cannot wait, your video has inspired us to new heights... No pun intended. Lol!

    Have a good day/weekend etc etc. :)

  • That's really exciting and I appreciate your letting me know that the video was inspirational for you. Helps me realize that the time I put into making videos is worth it.

Much success to you and all the best!

    Jonathan

  • No worries mate, thanks for making it. ;)

Can I ask you though, what month did you do your climb in? Our plan is for next September (2010).

    Cheers,

    Jude

  • We went in June, 2006. The weather was awesome most of the time we were on the mountain.

  • cul im goin tommorow!!! p.s. its STELLA point

  • Jonathan is really really cool!!!

I wish you all the best!!! That was one of the best proposal ever man!

    =D

  • Hey messyfly! Glad you enjoyed the video and the proposal on Kilimanjaro. Thanks for commenting!

    Jonathan

  • Great video, brings back great memories for myself! I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Feb. 2009, just a couple of days before the red nose celebs, what an experience it was, easily one of the best things I have ever done in my life. For ShawySWFC and others who haven't done something like this, get out there, you can do it! You are only here once, I'm 54 and this is only the start, hopefully going to Everest next year. Guarantee......you will have absolutely no regrets!

  • Congrats! We plan to go to Base Camp at Everest for the views... no real interest in going to the summit though. Again, thanks for watching the video and congrats on reaching the top! What was your favorite Kilimanjaro experience?

  • Cheers, I too am planning to go to base camp or Kala Pattar, the views of Everest and other mountains is stunning from there. Don't see me doing the summit there...if I was 20 years younger? My favourite bit about Kilimanjaro? The best, apart from all the stunning views was the sky at night. I love to sit out at night with a whisky and stare at the stars, but over there due to hardly any light pollution the stars were just amazing. I had never ever seen a sky like it. Incredible!

  • Thank-you for the reminder of the stars. I had forgotten about how amazing they were. At our day 2 camp, it was still warm enough in the evening that I laid outside and just looked up at the stars for an hour or so until I was absolutely too cold to stay outside of the sleeping bag any longer. They were truly incredible.

  • Wow

    The views are stunning

    Congratz for reaching the top!!!

  • Thanks! We loved it. Highly recommended.

  • No prob :D

  • im doing the machame route in september cant wait

  • Nice! Getting excited?

  • not going now..... :-( maybe next year. its an annual trip but this year my dad wasn't up to it so...

  • 1:26 it looks like the sun from the Lion King lol. I will be doing Mt.Rainer in 2011and hopefully do this after.

  • Nice! Enjoy the climb and definitely take a camera. You'll be glad you did when you look at your pictures 3 years later. :)

  • i was 17 when climb Uhuru. Marangu route on 4days up and down.

  • Congratulations! That's awesome. Do you plan to go back to summit again at any point?

  • Yeah I'm going to remember that one when I go to propose. Congrats on the summit, I plan on doing it this summer, if I can get enough money together.

  • Don't wait for the money. Go and do it. Heck, we went almost three years ago, and may still have some debt from our trip (which included a lot more than Kili) but it was completely worth every penny. Don't wait for the money. Decide to do it and the money will get figured out.

  • I totally agree i been to India 3 times now since August and i have no money i class myself as working class. I always work hard before i go and come back. To pay off any debts. Life's to short its a big world out there to see and for everyone to enjoy.

  • wow.. i admire people like you, i wish i had the guts to just pack up n go.

  • I wish you all the best if you do decide to do something in the future i can only say you will not regret it.

  • Oh my goodness that was absolutely lovely, what an awesome guy you are!

Congratulations on making the climb and on your engagement!

Have you had the big day yet and if not which mountain will you be choosing for that?!!! lol

  • We did have the big day last fall... pictures at our web site CarrieAndJonathan (dot) com and click the pictures link. We thought about getting married on top of a mountain, but got married in a church instead. it was a wonderful wedding! Thanks for your nice compliments on the video!

  • if Mount Kilimanjaro goes to 19,340 how come Wikipedia says Mount Kilimanjaro goes to 19,330?

  • are you serious!!10feet

  • Because Wikipedia is a user-generated source of information and someone put in the wrong information. No big deal. It is actually 19,341 though.

  • Thats smart. Propose while your girlfriend has a low red blood cell count, and isn't thinking clearly.

  • Dude, that was exactly my thoughts. It worked!

Your comment made me laugh. Carrie enjoyed it too! Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • I was gonna climb it but it was too much money.

i climbed Meru instead! it was fucking awesome!

    Im only 15 aswell!

  • Congratulations! That's great!

We had one 13 year old on our climb who never complained once, and one 14 year old who complained the whole time, and she's the only one from our group who didn't summit. Go figure!

Climbing Kili was definitely expensive, but completely worth it.

  • Very sweet

  • Thanks!

  • Kilimajaro is the best i would love to go there again.I love my country

  • Hey! Thanks for watching. We loved it too. It was a really amazing climb. We wish we would have stayed in Tanzania and Keyna longer (either before or after the climb). Perhaps next trip. :)

  • Did you go to the national parks?

  • We went to Arusha National Park...and the Ngongare (spelling?) crater. It was really a great day! Lots of monkeys and zebras and giraffe and flamingoes... etc. Totally recommended to visit the parks.

  • very good video. i was on the top too, and this video reminds me so many emotions. maybe one day i'll ask the same question on some peak.

    thanks for the video.

  • It's a great feeling to be on top of that mountain. And I'm so glad I proposed there. It's a great way to start a marriage and a great story to be able to share about how we got engaged. I highly recommend it.

  • Cool video.

  • Thank-you! I'm glad you enjoyed seeing our time on Kilimanjaro. We definitely are glad to have made the video to remember such an important day for us.

  • very cute guy

  • Thanks for the compliment!

amazing, what a story to tell your kids, i propsed on the top of africa... stellar

    congrats again!

  • I can take video for a short time and put inside my jacket everytime. Uhuru Peak was great..Kilimanjaro I love it

  • I really enjoyed this video and loved the high altitude proposal. Thanks for sharing your experience and your special moment!

Also... In his book, Travels, Michael Crichton shares his experience of climbing Mt. Kiliamjaro. He was NOT ready, or prepared for the trek! Good read!

    Cactus Jack

  • Yah, we had a hard tie with the cameras. They were kept inside three layers of clothing until the summit, and then only taken out for very short periods of time.

  • Congratulation, great vid. I couldn`t take one because my cam. was not working because of minus 25°C on the top...
