Hawaii was a independent foreign country before it became part of the U.S.! There is no proof that the United States owns Hawaii.

@909evanescencefan. Maybe I did not explain myself clearly. It maybe real State-wise. But in terms of the U.S. claiming Hawaii as its own entierly is FAKE! THERE IS NO TREATY OF ANNEXATION!! Without a treaty of annexation, America cannot claim Hawaii as its own, futhermore enforce law itself upon Hawaii and its citizens. So without a treaty of annexation, the Territory of Hawaii, much less the State of Hawaii is null and void!! In other words, an illusion!

@DeltaEagle7700 their was a treaty of anexation but Queen Lilli'uokalani didnt signed it however On June 16, 1897, McKinley and three representatives of the government of the Republic of Hawaii --Lorrin Thurston, Francis Hatch, and William Kinney-- signed a treaty of annexation. President McKinley then submitted the treaty to the U.S. Senate for ratification. so yes their was a treaty

In WRITTEN Hawaiian there are 13 letters, NOT 12. The 'okina (glottal stop) is a letter and w/out it the pronunciation and meaning often changes. In SPOKEN Hawaiian, the letters T, R, B and V are also used. Words are inter-changeable throughout Hawai'i. The word "kahakai" is also said as "kahatai" or "tahatai", depending on where you live. This was a problem when creating a written form. In the end T, R, B and V were not included in written Hawaiian, but still survive in spoken Hawaiian.
