This reminds me ALOT of the Anvil documentary I just watched the other night. Especially the part where they don't get paid for playing and only a few people show up to see them.
This brings back memories and some! we lived Bad News Tour 'speak' on the road, with Discharge, in the early 80's - we all knew the script word for word! still brilliant!!
'Bad News' really hit home for me. I used to play bass in a band called 'Bad Connection', and in a way I was the Colin of the group, but vice versa, because I was the only good musician in the band. Of course we never went anywhere. Good thing too. It just goes to show you that bands with the word 'Bad' in their name don't work out. Bad News, Bad Connection, Badfinger. OK, maybe the last one was successful, but still.
Spinal Tap was funny, and silly, very entertainning, but Bad News is more realistic, a sort of sociologic study with their dream, their place on society and the band. Bad News is more a Ken loach movie than a rob reiner, so you can't compare
Neither. Made more or less same time but released 2 years apart. But Bad News is far superior. You can watch it time and again. But Spinal Tap once is enough.
Spinal Tap WAS ripped off from Bad News. Typical Americans, can't enjoy the original Brit so have to duplicate it for the US. Reiner should be shot for such plagerism.
They are two very different films, same concept but done very differently. Just because they're both spoofs about a rock band doesn't mean anyone ripped each other off. Spinal Tap is superior IMO by far but they're both great!!!
I havent seen this in ages, LOL. Check out the graffiti on the toilet door at 1:02"Whitton Punx" "Abusive Youth". I was an 80s Whitton Punk, (too young for the original infamous 70s lot) Abusive Youth were my mate band, did one bedroom gig I think.
The quote I remember from this goes along the lines of: "Of course, I`m I much better guitarist than Jimmy Page. I could play Stairway to Heaven when I was 17 and he didn`t write it until he was 27".
Sounds pedantic I know but the quote is "I could play Stairway to heaven when I was 12. Jimmy Page didn't write it til he was 22. I think that says a lot." Awesome eh. I loved Bad News. Sorry for sounding like a smartarse here. :-)
very very funny.i had mates like this and it just reminds me of them.and when i first saw this back in the day...i just pissed my pants with laughter.england
lots of parallels to Spinal Tap, incliding actor/writer written music and the skull with the glowing eyes, but still really funny! "You mean you let the dog in for free?!" hehe cute dog.
