  • kerry thanks for posting it- its a shame u died- ( dec /09) and i had the chance to see this video and some others u posted on youtube channel

  • I was about 10 years old..my family traveled from Fall River Ma....there at the fair I remember riding a conveyor like belt through a room in which Michelangelo's Pieta was so gloriously able to be viewed. how marvelous that we could see such a beauteous masterpiece......The Pieta is miraculously unforgettable....I'm so glad I could see it........does anyone else remember seeing it there?

  • love it. brings back so many memories. I lived on long island and went quite a few times. Always wished they would bring back another.

  • I found this by accident and Im glad I did. It brought such wonderful memories. I was 16 at the time and loved it. Always wished there would be another worlds fair.

    thank you for sharing.

  • Thanks for posting this. I'm glad that some were smart and well off enough to have filmed the fair. It opened on my 12th. birthday in 1964. I grew up and lived in Woodside, Queens. I am 59 this week. and wow.... where did the time go. "Amy" by the Lovin' Spoonful, (THE Quintessential New York City Band) is the perfect tune for this film. I don't know why you picked it, it has exactly the right kind of sadness and joy combined into the melody- how nostalgic and longing it made me feel.

  • great video and song. thanks

  • A wonderful look back at the fair my friend. Recently I was given several boxes of books and one of them was the official guide to the 1964/65 World's Fair. Since then I have been very interested in this piece of history.

  • Thank you for posting this video.

My father, a teacher, had a big box og tickets and we went very often.

Some of my fondest memories from my youth are the Fair.

My Grandfather helped build it as a Heavy Equipment operator.

  • Fantastic! Maybe we passed each other, as I recall we went in August, too! My dad, my grandfather, his second wife, and six of us Pratt kids (mom got a well-deserved rest at home). Yes, I'm about to turn 54, and doesn't this all look so OLD now! My biggest memory: having to pee so bad on the sky ride I'd thought I'd have an accident! No, seriously, it was a magic day. So COOLL!

  • I went to this one in 1965 and then Expo 67 and Hemisphere 1968

  • This is before my time. But my parents have to see this. Thanks for posting it! Great vid.!

  • seen this one, EXPO 67 and New Orleans. NY was best

  • Boss, appropriate music! Good job chief!

  • kerry, u have more movies about the fair?

i suppose in this movie u were filming from the observation towers area-

again its a nice movie-thanks for postin

  • I only have some 35mm slides I shot on a previous visit. I may make a slideshow of those & post them. Thanks!

  • WE NEED ANOTHER ONE THAT'S WHAT WE NEED! PUT ANOTHER ONE IN THE FLUSHING MEADOW. I loved the last one.

  • like the video, i ve been in some world fairs , i was in sevilla expo in 1992- hope i can be in 1012 in China- New York world´s fair seems awesome still today .

Id like to know the name of that song ?

  • wonderful!

  • So nice to see,

    Thanks for posting,

I have 8mm of this and the Bronx Zoo,

    great memories.

I danced at the Worlds Fair,

from Miss Yvonnes school of Dance,

    Queens Village, NY,

those were the days my friend :)

  • Our family visited the Fair on July 20, 1965 while on vacation. I remember seeing the Mexican Pavilion with folk dancing, the AMEX money tree, going on the Swiss Sky Ride and the U. S. Royal Ferris wheel and visiting Dinoland and the Florida Pavilion with the porpoise show. My father took a picture of my sister and me with a backdrop that is still there - the Unisphere and the NY State Pavilion. We didn't go up in either of the towers, though. My mother remembers the Vatican Pavilion.

  • gees.. This was before I was around (born 1972) but my dad always tells me about the world's fair.

I had never actually seen any video of it till just now. Just a picture here and there and of course the ruins of it at the park.

It is such a shame they didn't just keep it going. (or had a third world's fair) it is so sad that New York doesn't have or can't keep anything beautiful. when (if) they do It always has to be destroyed right away.. Either by vandals or lack of money. That's sad.

  • Thanks for watching. I have another NightLife Show video about World's Fairs in general you might like. They began in London in 1851 and continue today. None are planned for NY. Theres China in 2010, S. Korea in 2012 & Italy in 2015. Back in 1965, we were hopeful for the future, today its a different world.

  • I was 14 when our family spent a week in the summer going to the 64-65 World's Fair. I remember riding in the cool new Mustang convertible. I have vague memories of a performance where people climbed a very tall pole, with rope tied to them and then they wound back down. It was spectacular! Anyone remember this?

  • Re: The "Flying Indians." I saw them at Hemisfair '68 in San Antonio. They're called "Los Voladores de Papantla." Amazing performance, I agree.

Re: The music. Oh man, I remember hearing that back in '67 coming out of my 6-Transistor radio. So lonely and beautiful. It's "Amy's Theme" by the Lovin' Spoonful, for those who don't know. The last bit of music I don't recognize, but it seems familiar too.

  • My father was a copenter and worked on the GM building .I was 7 years old at the time.We got to go the day before it opened up to the public/It was for all the guy's who work on it .Thanks alot it brought a tear to my eye"s watching it .

  • I was 7 years old when my father took my brother & me to the Fair.I remember"Future world".The RCA pavilion where we saw VIDEO PHONES!where you can see the other caller Sounds familiar?Any way I only went one day to the Worlds Fair but I can still remember the sites and the long lines into the GM pavilion and alike. My last memory is taking the SkyRide on the way home. This is really a precious memory film it should be transferred to DVD so it can last another generation. Thanks for the Memories

  • We have 8mm home videos of this also but I believe ours are from 1964.

  • You should transfer those films to DVD before its too late (see my "Home Movies - Ruined Forever" video) and put them up here on YouTube!!

  • That's a good idea, thanks! The ones I have were transferred to VHS about 20 yrs, along with other 8mm's. They were my mom's videos of when she & her family went to the world's fair. Believe it or not they are actually still full of color and not faded or anything. I'll have to check out transferring them to DVD.

  • Wonderful. Great choice of music, too.

    Peace.

(Through Understanding, of course ;) )

  • Kerry, the Univ of Central Florida has a massive project to digitize the fair inside and out. It's called Return to The Fair. They are looking for photos and or sound files from then.

  • wow that fair must of been amazing.. i live near the flushing- corona meadows park (host site) and not half of the things shown here are there. the unisphere is still there tho.

  • Thanks! Yes, it was really cool back then. Not surprised most of the structures are gone. You can still see the Unisphere at the begining of CBS' "King of Queens" too.

  • This is an excellent look back at the 1964-65 worlds fair. I remember seeing pictures from the fair in magazines when I was a kid. Recently I visited Corona Park (the site of the fair) and it is so sad that there is so little left and that what is left is in such poor condition. I hope something is done to save the New York pavilion before it's too late. I have been traveling back in time here on Youtube and your footage really gave me the feeling of being there. Thank you for posting this.
