When you DIY in your living room using old analog equipment the final output usually sounds like this. Then when you upload it to the internet to a lossy format - it gives it that hollow sound.

How is this overall sound achieved? Is it compression or some kind of analog plugin? Or is it a million things tweaked on each track to get this grainy, distant copy of a copy cassette tape effect? Does anybody have a clue how he does this to EVERY track??

I have heard of transferring your songs to vcr with the rca cables and then transferring them back to the computer for an old school analog sound?
