  • 1:47 How do we know what buttons you're pushing?

  • I'm not quite clear on the aperture in video. I am aware that you cannot change A during shooting, but you can if it's an AF-d lens, using the ring on the lens, does this work? (obviously G lenses wouldn't as they don't have this.) Please confirm.

  • @arubaforever Aperture adjustment during Movie Mode/Live View requires an old Manual AI lense like the 50mm f1.8 E series Nikkor at the start of the video. This was used to make the video. Refer to my other replies for details

  • @thinkingmediatv So you cannot do it with an AF-D? I guess not since as soon as you rotate the blades you get an error if you use the old aperture controls don't you?

  • This video puts me straight to sleep after a minute into it! C'mon WAKE UP!!

  • Increeeedibly sad vid ! Cheer up man !

  • I actually gave this a negative revue because you fail to mention curtain steps to achieve focus tracking a particular subject (as an example)...you don't mention that you have to press the "OK" button to LOCK on a subject when you move the camera around (as in the satellite dish example)..and you don't mention HOW you get to the display options....I mean for a video that is 18 minutes long you'd think there was a COMPLETE , step by step instruction to the features you outline...

  • for me the Nikon D7000 is easy to operate and the controls are almost the same as the Nikon D90 but the Nikon 7000 has a better quality than the Nikon D90

  • HOW DO YOU DO DEPTH OF FIELD? I just can't figure out

  • @gadsiegadsie Higher Aperture Value = Smaller iris opening (physically) = More depth of field

Lower Aperture Value = Larger Iris opening = Shallower Depth of field.

And the focal length (mm) plays a great role too. More mm (Tele) = Shallower DoF, less mm (Wide angle) = less

Basically you combine both factors (Focal length and Aperture) to get the Depth of Field the way you want. :-)

  • how do i toggle auto focus selection from live view? please help thanks

  • Which buttons do you use to change the aperture while recording? I tried everything and nothing works. I have the movie settings on manual with a CPU lens. I'm able to change the shutter speed but not the f number

  • Nice demo.

  • Good video

U sound like qui gon jin from starwars

  • It's nice to see all of these things in action. The video could be edited for time though. A lot of long awkward pauses throughout.

  • Manual AI lenses . . . OK. Got it. Thanx a million

  • @obi5312 You will see in the video no data is shown about the non-CPU lens.

This will create an instant demand for second hand MF AI lens :(

  • @thinkingmediatv I'm hoping Nikon will rectify this with firmware. My suspicion though is that they'll throw it in on the D300S successor which may come out later this year as a sweetener -- especially since its likely to have the same (or very similar) censor and only minor advantages at that price poiint over the D7000 besides frame rate and a slightly sturdier .build.

  • Great review. Very informative. One thing though, How were you able to adjust aperture while in Live view? My D7000 doesn't do that. In fact many have complained about that issue on othe youtube clips. Has there been a firmware update that I'm not aware of?

  • @obi5312 your cam has to be in Manual... go to your menu..Shooting menu/movie settings/Manual movie settings/On

  • @obi5312 requires the use of Manual Focus AI lenses to adjust the aperture while recording (D7000 firmware Version 1.01)

  • @thinkingmediatv after updating firmware 1.01 still can't adjust the aperture while recording, pls any help?

  • @designclinique Are you using an old Manual AI lense ? Like the 50mm f1.8 E series Nikkor at the start of the video ? This was used to make the video. With modern CPU lens you will need to

    1. In Movie settings menu set Manual movie settings to ON

    2. Set Priority Mode to M = Manual

    3. Select f number desired by rotation front control dial i.e f2.8

    4. Enter LV Movie Mode and you will see the Shutter Speed can be adjusted (otation rear control dial)

    5. To change f number repeat steps 3. and 4

  • @thinkingmediatv - thanks for the info. However it is an unfortunate workaround, since you have to move back and forth between LV to make aperature adjustments. Canon 7D does it all, no workarounds required. I may wait. Also, what about image stabilizer lenses. does nikon use them? they seem as though they are almost required for certain types of video shoots.
