this not the world record myself and many of my team mates can go sub 1:15.5 500meter split the record is 1:10.5 split. Still very good job man keep up the good work
@sidrenwada Where would i find it? the concept 2 world records page doesn't have a 500m record.. kudos to you's all if it's true though, which it could possibly be as 1:15 doesn't sound too unreasonable in hindsight.
@srsly101 on the concept 2 web site they have permitters you can set distance age and gender here is the web site h t t p :/ / w w w. concept2 . co m / us/r acing/ records/ all_records .asp thanks for being reasonable about this :)
@sidrenwada I doubt someone on a national team would be bragging on youtube...oh and btw I'm totally on a national team somewhere and I do 0:53 on a bad day, sometimes I've been known to do the whole 500m in my starting stroke....
this not the world record myself and many of my team mates can go sub 1:15.5 500meter split the record is 1:10.5 split. Still very good job man keep up the work
That's amazing, Iv'e never tried doing a 500m max but i can pull about 1:17 max, age 17. So i guess i could do a 500 in say 1:20. Is this still the WR?
@mrajsma01 You are wrong. hitting a 1:17 low split doesn't mean you can hold "roughly a 1:20" 500 meter. I can hit a 1:14 low on my 100 meter sprint, but on a 500 meter my best is 1:25
Does anyone ever have a problem with the concept 2 moving around in the gym? Not sure if my techniques just shocking, but every time i push hard with my legs the machine shifts forward and its so annoying having to stop and get back in line.
I can do 500m in 90seconds and im only about 80kg so its not like im a monster strength wise :/
Some training excersises uses sandbags, so they might.
And if you are still jumping about at highest resistance setting, perhaps you are working with too sudden movements. Smoothness will often have the rig be more .. uhm .. stationary ?
@Jesus45U yea you make perfect sense, i think ive now realised im using my arms slightly at the start of the stroke, when it should be all leg until im further back? Maybe thats enough to nudge it forward
@CJ95ZZ so what if ur Asian? Fair enough mentioning the age but what does being Asian matter? I know many came over in the banana boats, maybe that gives you an unfair advantage.
@JacobsJaffa u forgot most asians arent like europeans or americans,at teens most are around my size while MOST caucasians teens my age would be roughly 5 to 10 cm taller and weigh roughly 10 kilos more.AND what the hell with the bannana boats
I really hate when people brag and are arrogant about their times on youtube, honestly put up or shutup. Just upload a video proving it and we'll believe you, just writing down your time and being all high and mighty is really obnoxious and arrogant.
Rowing is one of the worlds most physically demanding sports behind swimming and boxing i think, but the best people in rowing either indoor or outdoor have t be some of the worlds most mentally tough by far
these machines don't technically have resistance levels, the dial on the side only slightly adjusts how hard the stroke is depending on your preferred stroke rate, but in these races they generally keep it at around 4, maybe lower for a very short sprint like this one
The adjustment lever varies the size of the air vents through to the flywheel. The bigger the air vent, the more resistance. That's why it makes the stroke feel harder at a given stroke rate. The setting is personal to each rower, for sprints most people tend to set it higher than normal. A setting of 6-8 is not uncommon for the 500m and for the shorter 100m, many people set it to 10?
im stack at 7.20 in 2km. Im 98kg, 193cm, 32Y, training the last 3 months, but i find impossible to beat the 7 min barrier. How can these guys do 2km in 6min? Technique perhaps too.
@ChrisBrett2K: Thanks for this tip it has helped me a lot, I also include more power, hence 'long and more powerful strokes', managed a PB 3.23 for 1000m based on this. I also realised that 'controlled breathing' can play its role too...rowing is a painful game, but I like to push body to the limit
oh man this guys a freak, he's like Rob Waddell just over short distance.. i can do a 1:28 for a 500 im nearli 17. I hold 137 for a 2k and im not sure what i do for 1km havnt done 1 for a while.
oh wicked, where are yu rowing from? were a really small clu in NZ hopefully my times will get down to around the 620 mark this season, would be great just recovering froma broken shoulder is making it a long start to the season but goin well
Lol, look at the guy on the right of the screen, his technique is shit, how did he get to any competition at all? Still probably faster than me though, I'm much better at 20 and 40 min ergs ;)
You understand that he did not take it down to 1:15; rather, he held a 1:15 average for 500 meters which is a great accomplishment. I can get to a 1:19 and I'm sixteen, however, I can only do this for 100 meters and then I die back up to a 1:30~1:40....
thats pretty good at your age i was 185cm 74kg and i did 1:28 for 500m and 1:39avg for 1000m. I do 6:12 for 2k now and im 191cm and 93kg. Good luck with your rowing your times are promising but you gotta work your arse off if you wanna make it
No, Nika is too fast over 2k for me, but why should I have to row 2k at all, let alone against any particular person? Does an Olympic sprinter have to run the 1500m as well, just to "prove he can really run"?
haha the power necessary to lower your split goes up exponentially as you get lower. it sucks. 1:37 is about 400 watts-ish. 1:15.9 is probably about 800.
I'm tired and out of breath just looking at him. Interesting he doesn't do full slide. I saw the person to the left of him really try to achieve that full slide. His bulk is where its at. That was all about muscle and technique.
i got 1.21,9. maybe it sounds good, but i did alot of consept rowing. those sec's at the end are extremly hard. if you want to get good at this distance, you should do exercises like legpress, squats, deadlifts, and weighted rowing. Allso interval training (dont know if its called that in english :). 5x4 x100meter with 3-4 mins breaks. Just make the motion flawless before you push uself to max :)
what! u dont believe me? Im not that ripped im about 6 foot and about 80kg. Play a lot of rugby and im quite fit. Ill take a pic of the time and send it u if i really must, but i aint gonna let someone film me in the middle of my uni gym, id look like a right t*wat

Crank up the resistance and you'll slow down right quickly.
That'll keep it from jumping about.
If that's not enough, put some sandbags over the rubberfeet so they get more traction on the floor.

i do 1:37 and i'm 15 and a half
KforKotzaba 2 years ago
that sucks, i know J14's who can do that
smisty8 2 years ago
haha the power necessary to lower your split goes up exponentially as you get lower. it sucks. 1:37 is about 400 watts-ish. 1:15.9 is probably about 800.

My god, I can't even dream of a 1:15.9 LP myself, never mind that as a 500m split time!

I'm tired and out of breath just looking at him. Interesting he doesn't do full slide. I saw the person to the left of him really try to achieve that full slide. His bulk is where its at. That was all about muscle and technique.

6th Dec 2008, Rob beat this record in 1:14.4s at Cardiff again - wow!

He broke the World Record again this year...
I witnessed it with my own eyes.
It was seriously amazing.

what level do these guys have it on?
moonknight66 3 years ago
This guys form is good considering the rates and that he is pulling so hard. Does he win any proper rowing races (on the water)?
hnsnluke 3 years ago
i got 1.21,9. maybe it sounds good, but i did alot of consept rowing. those sec's at the end are extremly hard. if you want to get good at this distance, you should do exercises like legpress, squats, deadlifts, and weighted rowing. Allso interval training (dont know if its called that in english :). 5x4 x100meter with 3-4 mins breaks. Just make the motion flawless before you push uself to max :)

mattjones969 3 years ago
Lol yea right, you can get anyone to row and then take a pic, you might as well have no proof at all.
