  • Educate yourself, High-fructose corn syrup does contain slightly more fructose then "regular" sugars, but comes at about half the cost of regular sugar. Both of which are not good for you might I add.

As well as this it stimulates the economy as it indeed comes from corn (commonly coming from US surplus crop.) Cut back on sugar all together, but don't make such a big fuss whether it's plain sugar or not.

Would you really want to more for food? Is HFCS really that bad? I don't think it is.

  • It's why many Americans are fat, depressed, diabetic and moments away from a heart attack.

  • Man, I had a dream trying to convince me that HFCS was good (said it enhanced the color and sweetness of foods and was food for you)...which is why I came searching for this video to comment on it. Advertising runs DEEP guys, subconciously...Best to stay away from these ads all together.

  • remember the old ads that stated "DDT is good for me!" yet today DDT is "banned." History repeats itself! Corn Refiners get your facts straight HFCS is just another chemical that wreaks havoc on the human body. monoculture is dead, it failed as its proved its not sustainable. permaculture is the future of food and healthy living.

  • "And like sugar, it's fine in moderations." Yeah... it's not terrible, but, like anything, too much of whatever is bad for you. ex: chocolate's very good for you but if you have too much, yeah you know. It's just cheaper to make from corn, it takes the fructose from corn and regular gluctose, which is essentionally sugar, the corn isn't made from chemicals (which aren't that bad but people bitch and moan about), it's just compressed to get the fructose. Sugar is fructose/gluctose, HFCS fru/glu.

  • You're going to die.

  • In the Journal of Clinical Investigation, Dr. Peter J. Havel, professor of nutrition at the University of California at Davis, randomly assigned 32 overweight or obese men and women to drink three daily servings — 25 percent of their daily energy requirements — of a glucose- or fructose-sweetened beverage for 10 weeks. At the end of the study period, both groups had gained similar amounts of weight but those

  • You know what is a lot dumber than this commercial? People who go on about how proud they are to feed their kids real, natural, "healthy" cane sugar.

*ANY* sugar or carbohydrate source, when eaten in the amounts our government tells us to, is poison. It's not an essential nutrient. You don't need to eat it, ever.

  • @jakeharvey There is nothing wrong with eating cane sugar, or even white sugar for that matter. And our government doesn't tell us to eat copious amounts of sugar, I am not sure where you got that information from...And too much of anything is bad, even water.

YOU don't need to eat meat, but I am sure you do...Sooo your point is?

  • 25 people accidentially missed the 'Thumbs Down' button because they sneezed.

  • 20 some years ago the aspartame people ran a commercial that said aspartame (nutrasweet) is made from bananas and milk. Check out sweetmisery dotcom for what the truth is on that!

  • i think our video provides the most insight on the matter. check out our "get the facts"

  • You should read Princeton's Neuroscience Institutes study on high fructose corn syrup. It clearly shows a correlation between ingestion of high fructose corn syrup and obesity in rats. I really trust that study more than an ad from the Corn Refiners Association that clearly has its own agenda in mind.

  • Look, we understand you're trying to make money. Everyone wants to. But this is not the way to, by attempting to trick people into consuming a product which is clearly bad for you. If you looked at these comments, you can see that no one believes you. Stop airing these ads and find another way to make money. Just don't try to trick us.

  • I never saw this original one before I saw the SNL version. Cute.

  • there's a lot of stuff made from corn that you don't exactly want to eat...

    like, ethanol.

Even plastic comes from a natural source. This doesn't mean that once it has been refined and changed, it's safe for your body, even 'in moderation'. And while small amounts wont kill you, what do you think 'in moderation' means? High fructose corn syrup is in most products in your pantry and fridge. A lot of products use it as a sweetener so the listed amount of sugar in the product is lower.

  • HFCS is to sugar as motor oil is to extra virgin olive oil? Puh-leez.

High-Sugar foods (Corn syrup loaded or not) need to be limited, just like Extra Virgin Olive Oil! Too much fat in your diet is as bad as too much HFCS.

  • Hmm...

  • What bothers me the most about this commercial though is that they make the woman who brings up the subject speechless when the other woman asks "Like what?" Like people who are concerned about it are idiots and can't defend their position.

  • Arsenic is also natural.

  • How is it natural if its made in a lab. Just because something was once corn does not make it natural after its processed.

  • corn wont be used for sugar as soon as they get this ethanol thing done

  • governments cheap and so are compaines...how about we just use cane sugar? oh wait...they dont want to pay. I forgot.

  • HFCS and Sugar are the same...both are toxic and terrible for you.

  • yea, high frutose corn syrup won't kill you until you realize you're fatter than ever and later eventually have cancer and diabetes

  • Comparing sweetener to sweetener (HFCS, sugar, honey, agave, etc.) is missing the point. All sweeteners have negative health effects, regardless of their relative quantities of fructose, glucose, and sucrose.

This is not a question of which sweeteners are healthy and which are unhealthy. None are healthy. All are merely concentrated sugars – contributing to obesity and all its consequences – and therefore should all be minimized or completely avoided in a health-promoting diet.

  • The Fructose is a lie!

  • It's funny how the corn 'refiners' association is trying to convince us that high-fructose corn syrup is 'natural'. Ok, sure corn 'refiners', just one thing: Do you know what natural means? There is nothing even slightly similar in existence in nature. You made it and processed it. You added chemicals. We don't want it. Stop trying to fill your pockets and do something good for our current obesity epidemic.

  • it's definitely natural! haven't you seen my corn syrup garden?!

  • @CornRefinersAssoc The only problem with intaking this stuff into your body in moderation is the fact that HFCS is in practically everything that is sold in a supermarket. How am I supposed to take this stuff in moderation?

  • Mr. CornRefinersAssoc, please tell us why HFCS is banned in Europe?

  • I actually read that HFCS is converted directly into fat by the liver and stored in adipose tissue. Is it just me or is there a link between the huge increase in processed foods with HFCS and the the huge increase in obesity and diabetes rates?

  • The other day I had a bottle of Mexican Coke, and I was shocked to find out how much better it tasted than American Coke! I looked at the label afterwards, and guess what? Real sugar, none of that high-fructose corn syrup junk we get here. And after I was done it didn't leave that sticky feeling I get in my mouth when I drink typical sodas with high-fructose corn syrup. Real sugar tastes better, it feels better, it IS better.

  • I remebered when these commercials aired, when suspicion starts up of something that's in literally EVERYTHING, they make an advertizement for it to hush the rumor going around. It's not even the corn people think it is, it's the hard corn on the cob not the sweet corn. And they put so much chemicals to make the corn grow faster it's ridiculous.

  • snl version is betterr

  • This kind of thing makes me question free speech...

I want to be able to say whatever I want, but I don't think it's right for just any company to be able to buy an ad and use it to deceive a massive number of people... There's something complicated wrong here that I can't put my finger on...

  • @pinkagumma lol! Well said!

  • realize how at the end of the video it says "corn refiners association" at the bottem of the screen. why do you think they want this add up? because they're making sooo much money off putting high fructose corn syrup in our foods and drinks, people start realizing it's bad and don't want it anymore. so they have a commercial that says it's no worse than normal sugar. EVERYTHING runs off greed, and it's pathetic. HFCS is way way worse than natural sugars.

  • 17 corn refiners have YouTube accounts.

  • The real problem is even if theyre chemically the same, HFCS is so cheap that its in a billion products sugar has no place in.

  • Principles of Biochemistry 3rd Edition (Horton) p364: "However, fructose catabolism bypasses phosphofructokinase-1 and its associated regulation. Diets rich in fructose or sucrose may lead to a fatty liver because of overproduction of pyruvate."

  • How can it be safe in moderation if its in everything!!

  • I AM SPEWING HIGHLY OPINIONATED FACTS ABOUT SUGAR AND CORN SYRUP. YOU SHOULD BELIEVE THE THINGS I SAY, BECAUSE I SAY THEM WITHOUT ACKNOWLEDGING THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ISSUE.

  • Why are people talking about corn syrup? Does anyone else not find this commercial a genius piece of social commentary?

  • so the studies that showed that any amount of corn syrup at all massively increased weight gain in lab animals are all bull, right? Good to know.

enjoy your corn syrup America! we have special clothing sizes just for you...

  • If I make a rebuttal video to this one(that will be respectful, yet blunt) will you accept it as a video response?

  • If corn "fructose" is the same as cane "glucose" how about we end public subsidies for corn and sugar producers? Why is sugar used around the world in things, but here in America everything seems to have corn syrup in it? We have regulations that distort market prices for domestic corn and international sugar growers. Let's move past your "facts" of health and directly onto the FACTS of economics. Companies would not use corn syrup without these regulations. Let's have a free market, NOW!

  • Corn syrup and table sugar a pretty much the same. They're both bad for you.

  • Mommy! Can I have more juicy drink please!?

  • Like what, it's made from corn?

Oh, you know what they say about heroin..

Like what, it's made from poppy seeds?

    Flawless logic!

  • sucrose is a different chemical formula then fructose. that small amount makes a huge difference. same with every chemical in existence. if it was truly processed the same, it would be an exact replica. they require different enzymes to break it down into glucose. even enantiomers have caused birth defects and they are mirror images. that one tiny position was the difference between kids missing arms and mothers not having morning sickness. but hey, her body "couldn't tell the difference" right?

  • See, the issue many perceive is that HFCS is connected to a lot of health issues. However, a lot of studies out there are found to be flawed in finding links from HFCS to health problems. The real issue is moderation; HFCS has been found in various foods ranging from toaster pastries, bread, medicine, sodas, salad dressings, etc. How do you moderate consumption if it's in everything you buy and eat?

  • high fructose corn syrup = sugar, they are processed in your body the exact same way.

    watch Sugar the bitter truth.

  • HFCS doesn't taste good.. I'd rather have sugar, and this is coming from someone who loathes junk food with a passion.

Also, what's with the short haired lady? EVERYTHING has HFCS in it nowadays; she acts like it's rare.

  • Can someone tell me what is 'natural' about an artificial ingredient? Natural is not made in a lab. The FDA says it's "safe", now give me a definition for safe, that if you eat it it won't kill you, but you'll get obesity, diabetes, heart disease, all these diseases "which won't kill you".

I WANT an answer from you guys. If I don't I'll assume that you all are a bunch of cowards that a scared of someone who doesn't think like you. If I find this comment deleted then I will think even less ofyou

  • The FDA doesn't have a definition for "natural". It even says so on its website.

  • There's a reason HFCS is near obsolete in Europe. The Europeans care far more more about health than Americans do. It's also obvious despite their equal wealth to ours they are physically more fit and less obese.

  • It's prevalence is society is what's bad. HFCS is absolutely responsible for a lot of bad stuff, but only because we subsidize it and put it in so many things in such a great amount. The same thing would probably happen if we used apple juice to sweeten things. Most people are just against HFCS because it's everywhere, corn is GMO, and it's cool to be against ubiquitous / sciency stuff. This is a real problem; and it'd be nice if people didn't resort to pseudoscience to make their points.

  • define "moderation"

  • high fructos corn syrup is not natural... it comes from corn alright but to get it, it has to be squeezed, processed and filtered over and over and over and over again! for something that has to go through that much can't be GOOD... regular sugar doesn't have to take all that!

  • What's wrong with it? Oh noting if you like MERCURY/GMO's/Metabolic Syndrome/Cardiovascular Disease/Diabetes/Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease/and the harm it does to the environment because of bee reduction- but you wouldn't know anything about that would you? Wiki High Fructose Corn Syrup and you will see the real facts about this poison.

  • Go to Google and type in (The Dangers & Side Effects of High-Fructose Corn Syrup - FREE Report) Let's just say Dr. Mercola presents info like a boss! ^_^.

  • Chemically, they are pretty similar, and we shouldn't eat either. Sure, moderation would be nice, but what defines a good limit for fructose? Several studies show links to cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. Let's just not eat either, and stick with foods that are unprocessed, unrefined, and naturally sweet, like fruits and many vegetables.

  • @brokenbuzz Vegan for the win!

  • The short haired "mom" is a hottie. And sugar, natural or not, is toxic after taking in a certain low amount.

  • Yes DO get the facts and do NOT fall for this spin. HFCS is NOT digested like sugar (watch the video Sugar the Bitter Truth on YouTube) and also note that most corn is GMO and half of the samples of HFCS tested contained mercury. Just search for +HFCS +mercury in your favorite search engine. (Try DuckDuckGo)

  • @GrowMap I can't seen to find those... must be because I don't have my tinfoil hat with me.

  • Yes, high-fructose corn syrup is very safe... it won't kill you immediately if you consume it. Glad the "CornRefinersAssociation" is concerned with scientific literature. Even a highly uninformed person can see the titles on Google Scholar.

  • my dad is a nutritionist for the fda and high fructose corn syrup is a great substitute for sugar! it only causes diabetes 5 times faster and its even cheaper than normal sugar! its great, your body cant digest it so the glucose goes straight to your fat and makes you even bigger =D. its so cool i love hfcs!

  • Take down your Youtube channel. No one likes you. This stuff has been linked to diabetes, obesity, pancreatic cancer, colon cancer and other deadly diseases. How much did you pay your so-called medical experts to propagate your stupid agenda. Why do you want America to keep getting fatter? It just makes no sense. You people should be ashamed.

  • @guydudeasian Actually, the American Medical Association actually agrees that HFCS is not a dangerous product, so that there are experts involved. The only reason I can think of on why HFCS is trying to be defended instead of taken down to protect the health of the average population is that it supports too much of the food industry. Replacing it with healthier methods would totally screw over our already screwed economy.

  • lol oh you're in for a sweet surprise INDEED ;) hehehe.

personally i think the people who believe these commercials and consume this stuff deserve what's coming to them and deserve what they get :P

it's just a process of evolution.

  • I love how the first woman is basically like, "Wow, you don't love your kid, huh?"

  • People know better than to trust this propaganda by the special interests, right?

  • Thats a lie. it can cause diabetes and gives you unwanted cholesterol. The media needs to stop trying to get people hooked on things bad for them. look up REAL RECENT STUDIES IN EUROPE. you know? the place where they WORRY ABOUT what they eat?

  • I feel badly for the people in the world that don't know better than to believe this propaganda. It's because of advertisements like this that people eat this poison. And how can you people even talk about moderation? You all have pulled the wool over everyone's eyes to make them think that processed corn products aren't in absolutely everything. If everyone were truly educated from an unbiased source (not the CRA), it would be the final nail in the coffin for corn sweeteners.

  • This is a huge piece of propaganda, this stuff hurts you, it is horrible compared to natural sugar, this stuff is linked to colon cancer.

  • @RyanR3volution We appreciate hearing your concerns. Research confirms that high fructose corn syrup is safe and handled the same by the body as table sugar and honey, cont...

  • @CornRefinersAssoc Me thinks the research you read is beyond corrupt ^_^.

  • @CornRefinersAssoc Share a link to the research please

  • @CornRefinersAssoc Really? Funny, how neither sucrose or fructose inhibit the body's ability to use leptin (hormone that triggers satiation of hunger), the way high fructose corn syrup does. This, in turn, causes you to crave more calories than necessary, which leads to overeating, and thus; obesity.

  • @CornRefinersAssoc This statement is false. HFCS is more rapidly metabolized in the liver, flooding metabolic pathways and leading to increased triglyceride synthesis and fat storage. This can cause a rise in serum triglycerides, promoting an atherogenic lipid profile and elevating cardiovascular risk. Increased fat storage in the liver may lead to an increased incidence in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and this is one of several links between HFCS consumption and obesity.

  • @CornRefinersAssoc

The message is basically like saying that cocaine is ok in moderation. Almost everything is ok in moderation. Heck, WATER is BAD in abundance and can lead to serious problems - and its one of the building blocks of life. So the whole "ok in moderation" is just propaganda. Try something else.

  • @CornRefinersAssoc What research is that, exactly? There is plenty of research that confirms the exact opposite.

  • @CornRefinersAssoc That statement is completely false and these commercials are indeed propaganda. All a person needs to do is spend a few minutes researching on the internet to find out how unhealthy high fructose corn syrup is for your body so I don't need to explain it here.

  • @CornRefinersAssoc What research is that? References please.

  • @CornRefinersAssoc

    COOL STORY BRO

  • @CornRefinersAssoc The only problem with intaking this stuff into your body in moderation is the fact that HFCS is in practically everything that is sold in a supermarket. How am I supposed to take this stuff in moderation?

  • @CornRefinersAssoc Who's research? Provide the data please.

  • @CornRefinersAssoc Research funded by corn refiners assoc.

  • @CornRefinersAssoc Research from who?

    0_0

  • @RyanR3volution lol, oh I know it's a national security threat, ban it now!

  • @InternetSavage The only issue with banning it is the fact that a huge backbone of the food industry would be suddenly pulled out. Hundreds of food companies are going to have to revert to the more expensive cane sugar which would in turn spike the demand for cane sugar, lower the demand for corn, and overall screw over our economy big time. And with where our economy is at right now? I can tell you that a ban on HFCS is not happening soon.

  • @RyanR3volution And has mercury, and is synthesized by bacteria.

  • High Fructose Corn syrup is a good substitute for sugar, kinda like motor oil is a good substitute for extra virgin olive oil. Pour some motor oil in your pan and eat that, but only in moderation.
