South Beach was the low rent area, The Mariel Boatlife, Hurriance David, all put a huge strain on the city. It took Producer Michael Mann and the Miami Vice TV show to put Miami back on the map.
Statistically, If I am correct, most of these people who were "Flushed" ended up getting jobs or moving out of Florida soon after arriving. Not to mention people who feel they are the problem, keep in mind the reason they came here was because America kept pushing for Cuba to open its gates.

"Most of what came over during the 80's was not nice," is what he always told me. the video shouldn't be represented toward the entire Cuban population, but it sheds light on the problem.

I agree. just imagine that commun prisoners were given the choice: stay as an inmate or go to USA. Those events in Miami were real. I came from Mariel and later became a correctional officer while studying criminology; I was awared of that reality. I was in charge in the custody of many Cubans, they were no angels.
