Apologizing for nets and edges is one of the most ridiculous thing about table tennis. It is like a baseball player apologizing for hitting the foul pole on a homerun or apologizing for a ground-rule double or a field goal kicker apologizing for bouncing one of the goal post before it goes through the uprights. The net and the edge are as much a part of the playing surface as the rest of the table and acting as if hitting them is somehow wrong and merits an apology is fucking stupid.
@masanf to judge their manners to such a disgusting extent with such comparisons makes you look stupid. world class athletes can hit nets and edges very easily if trained to, but if they do so, where's the sportsmanship? if you know racket sports well enough you'd realize that tennis and badminton have these kinds of manners as well. please have a start on learning sportsmanship before judging sportsmen' manners to such extent.
@skatejimmy1 no matter what happened, saive didn't win. what determines the "stupidity" of segun for you, race? you shouldn't ever judge sportsmen like such by any means. saive clearly isn't better in this match, if he was, then he would've won.
@ttclaws55 mind you, he did what most coaches won't do, getting up there to help saive up when he tripped over. that gesture indicates lots more respect than not clapping for a net/ edge point
i am personally not a big fan of Saive myself but i have watched many matches of him and i just have to say, he was not able to play his best in this match.
I know Toriola, cause he played in Belgium and i have never seen him play so good. He'll never play that good again, though he beat Saive twice in Belgian competition just as he did with Samsonov
awesome. Though both players seldom appears on final 8 in major tournament, table tennis games need these kinds of combat that arouse the emotion of the audience.
Great to see an African player playing so well at a major event. Wish we'd see more of them, unfortunately in Africa we don't have the resources available in Europe or Asia to tt players.
Y have u even said that ur sorry for saive...as tho the Nigerian player int good enough to beat him. He is ranked #56 in the World, and If u know anything about table tennis you would know that anyone in that Top 100 could beat each other at any given moment
I really don't like to see you people come on this youtube n make out like you all are table tennis Gods....stupse.
You must respect saive, he's a former number 1 n has been great from time.
Segun has been knocking at the top player's door for a while and has shown he deserves his ranking by his displays in the last olympics.....giv respect where its due
i think the top 6 can beat each other and the top 20 can beat each other till the best 6. and the top 50 can beat each other exept the top 20. and the top 100 can beat each other exept the top 40
Hmm...Let's see. Take for example 2008 Beijing. Ma Lin won gold. Wang Hao won silver. Is it a coincidence that they were number 2 and 1 at that time respectively? By your logic, anyone in the top 100 could have won gold. Ergo, you are wrong.
4:16 epic defence by Saive and powerful smash by Toriola. Great game!

It seems like Toriola has one of the strongest smash in the world, when he smashes the ball goes out of game area, it seems like a volleyball smash.
