  • i dont have photoshop. can you make the bars a png for download?

  • @HighPriceComedy You can make it within a Title. Make two bars and set them across the top and bottom. You can get more technically accurate if you want and use a rectangle shape. Then set the dimensions in the right column so be 235 wide and 100 high. Then set the centre vertical and horizontal on the shape. Then increase the size with shift and alt key held until is reaches the sides. Set background to black. Use the clip in the edit with opacity set to multiply. Ta Da!

  • @aJBprods simple

  • catch u in 2012

  • Jon - as a side note i have created a 'WIDESCREEN' folder on my hardrive with several .png mattes that I made in photoshop. Now when i need one I just imort the desired aspect ratio and avoid the 'process' What I love about this method is the ability to keyframe the Y axis adjustments during the shot.

  • Jon- I wish I had found this last night before I racked my brain only to come up with the exact same process. I am coming from FCP and that has a built in filter that does the crop, allows you to adjust the frame up and down AND renders it out at the Matte ratio automatically. I hope Adobe adds this feature soon - But this is such a useful workaround - Oh and thanks for the math lesson - That helps me a lot. : )

  • birlliant tutorial! thanks!

  • How you cut it in 2:29 plese ? :)

  • @SimonRicoOFFICIAL I used the shortcut keys (PC) Control+K, (Mac) Command+K.

  • Awesome tutorial! However i found that Magic Bullet has a Frames plugin for this :P, anyhow still awesome.

  • @redtail0202 Oh Reeeeaaallly - Hmm I have the MB Suite - I need to investigate - TY

  • @redtail0202 I just used the one in Magic Bullet (FRAMES) my problem with it is that the moment I apply it i need to render to watch it. With Jons method I can play the timeline without having to render. Also (and this may just be a bug in my system ) When I apply the 2:35.1 MBF fiter - the top letterbox is larger than the bottom and I see no way to adjust this.

  • Thanks

  • Excellent tutorial, thanks!

  • This helps so much! Thanks for responding to my thread on creative cow!

  • @SJCreationsNetwork You are most welcome. :) I usually create my tutorials based on COW related workflow requests. :)

  • Thanks for the tutorial!

  • I found this way very helpful :P

  • This Process is very complicated. You could do this in title window just adding black frame on top and bottom frame and put on the top of the video.

  • @aftabkashar Yes that is true but there is not real way of knowing the exact measurements for perfect framing when using the shape tools in the Titler. There is more than one way to do things in any app and Premiere Pro is very flexible with its Titler so yes you can do it that way too. I like to be exact with my clients and this is how "I do it", not to say that other ways aren't "faster" or just as "good". :)

  • @aJBprods Yes, you are right everyone should know the proper measurement for specific export. Well, thanks for giving response and tutorial.

  • Great tutorial! Enjoyed this and your other ones as well, thank you for putting these up!

  • Nice tutorial! But now I'm wondering, if this is the easiest, fastest way to do it. Whats the other way (the harder)? I mean, what is the true difference between these techniques? Thanks anyway.

  • @brunofelix20 The less efficient way to work with non standard frame sizes would be to make a custom frame sized timeline (sequence) and work in that directly, but the footage you are using is going to be in a standard format frame size. Basically if you work with the native frame size of the footage and then think to crop later there is less stress on the system and therefore a smoother workflow during the editing stage.

If you have a beefy system you could work with a custom frame size. :)

  • great tutorial, learnt a lot from that one :-)

  • Pretty cool!.. In your opinion whats the best HD export setting for Premiere CS5? I used to use Vegas Pro 10 but it doesn't support my camera files [Panasonic AG HPX 170]. So i got to use Premiere but I'm having some troubles in export in really good High Definition files. Any tips? Anyway nice tutorial!

  • If you are only planning on exporting for web, wouldn't it be simpler to start with a 1920x800 timeline? Make sure the footage does not auto scale to frame, drop in your 1920x1080 footage, then adjust the Y position of each clip as needed. That's how I would have done it.

    Great tut though. Thanks.

  • @oneeyedgeek The problem with working in a timeline that has the final export dimensions is that PPro is not optimized to edit at non-native video frame sizes. So the method I demonstrated would be the least stress on a system. Thanks for your comments.

  • question, why would you want to do a process like that... i mean, what's the benefits of doing that... like, why would you want "ultra" widescreen... i'm still learning much and i'm quite dumb in this area... any info would be appreciated ... ty

  • I've got a question for ya mate, I'm planning on buying a Macbook pro 15" with the core i5 processor.

If I use Final Cut Pro with these specs, can I edit 1080p footage without stuttering video preview windows?

    Thanks in advance,

Love your tuts by the way.

  • @lucas199400 sure :)

  • Awsome video. Thanks.

  • Aussie aussie aussie, oi oi oi!

  • Cool ;)

But videocopilot's ae preset is easier and faster..

  • @MJHDvideos sure. But you can't edit in After Effects.

  • Cool stuff! Have an awesome new year's!! :)

  • Hello from Peru. Great tutorial. Crystal clear! I always watch your tutorials JB. Congrats and thanks.

  • @jnunura Haven't done one in quite a while, bit slower than I would have liked, but you gotta just get em out sometimes. Can't be too perfect. Glad you liked it and can hear it clearly :)
