Cool- you are going to have an amazing experience, I think it's a great idea for high school kids to be doing this. Maybe you are doing the Shira route?? Anyway taking the long way up is a good idea - better chance of making it to the top. Good luck! K
i made a successful summit a week ago. Did the machame route. i started out fine, but the summit was horrible. i had altitude sickness, felt llike i was in a dream, couldnt think straight, felt like i was going to puke. however it was brilliant and i'll always remember it.
Congratulations! especially on getting through the machame route as it has a pretty high failure rate - well done. Yes it is rather like a dream - a bad dream! Its definitely been a high point in my life.
All the best for your journey, it certainly will be a trip to remember. I hope you wont have to do battle with a blizzard on the way up like we did. Then again it did make things all the more exciting! Have a safe trip and good luck!
Congratulations on your Uhuru Peak summit success!!!
We're leaving very soon, Aug 5th, for our attempt!!! Three months ago, my husband announced to me that my 60th birthday gift is a 3 week trip to Africa!!!
We're training in the Florida heat with boots & loaded packs! Thanks for the tips on your website & your videos are helpful.
Please send us strong positive energy on Aug 12th, my actual 60th birthdate, as we attempt to the summit along the Rongai route!!
Wow - what an amazing birthday gift! I am passing on all our positive energy to you and your hubby! We had a 67 year old on our trip, age is certainly no barrier as there were young fit people who were unable to reach the summit. Please let me know how you go! You will fall in love with Africa no doubt- have a safe and wonderful journey -Katherine
