Im 15 years old and ive lived on the south side my whole life. And I love it here. I know that people just love to hate this historic city but I wouldnt rather live anywhere else personally. Rochester and Buffalo are suffering in a similar manner as Syracuse. The malls have lured away businesses and shoppers and the thugs that frequent these downtown areas have scared away shoppers and businesses.
Here in Syracuse our black Police Chief Fowler has done little to stem the high crime rate - BUT he threatened to arrest me because I was preaching from the Bible in front of City Hall.
My dad work at the hotel for over 20 years as a electrician on the day he died i was told by some of the workers that the machine that he use to fix died as well and never was able to have been fix. Yes it is sad to see most of the buildings go and makes me feel down because seems like people just dont care. I see also you caught were the people who wait for the bus to go on the south side. I still remember that lol. Hey is Rite Aid still there? How about the galleries of sryacuse?
Wow. People are judging a city by one block... And people don't look at the rest of the city, or it's history! Trust me, the rest of the city isn't as bad, only in certain areas.
Syracuse is not the worst US city but too close. I lived there for ten years, it has almost six months of cold, snow and all you can see are cars, people don't walk like in NYC, I guess because of bad weather. Few things I like there, its carousel mall, the fall season, the new york state fair and red lobster restaurant.
unfortunatley the reason why downtown syracuse is shot is because all of the petty theft and robberies contributed to centros 4 corners a transfer station for all the 2 bit thugs , drug dealers , welfare recipients and low class citezen of syr and also the stupid ass carousel mall just in general our elected officials allowed our 2 largest companies to ruin syr but on the other hand we do have a lot of things to do just outside the salina st corridor oh ya GOOOOO ORANGE
Syracuse created it's poor along with every other city in America.. Our way of life left with our jobs. People without hope slip off into poverty. You ever been on welfare? It's no pick nick, its degrading and reduces the recipient. So why not stop your misguided hate.. and blame the system that steals jobs and crushes lives...
welcome to the New World Order and The Corporate States of Amerikkka
This idiot doesn't know where to look and values the wrong things. It's a monument to Italian, Irish and Polish immigrants who at least contributed something to this culture. The beautiful architecture, landscape, history, culture and people make this the greatest city. Syracuse University is its cancer.
This is a terrible video with horrible music and no real information. I could make a way better video showing the better part of downtown and make it look great.
Great video, unfortunately most of what you show of Syracuse, hopefully things will turn around. Though I do have to say the people make it pretty fun, those that are left.
I'm 955 miles away now. The only fix is to wait for Global warming to give SYR a climate like Georgia. No reason to live in an area with that little sunshine and that much snow.
Syracuse is a great city we have great things like burnet park the dome the carosel center which is going to have an all itailian wing that is under construction when its finishe the carosel center will be the biggest mall in th u.s. and if yur hatin on syracuse and never even been there u need 2 shut up hate on yur own city not ours
i know the taxes suck but thats from the state the part i dont like about syr is the fact that its in ny i love the other cities especially rochester. roch and syr r my 2 fav cities and i have to have snow in december and on my birthday so i can go ice skating in clinton square and i'll admit the government sucks but i love evrything else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;1
cusetown, ny gotta love it, i guess. live in tennessee, not my choice, but im sure i wouldve moved anyway. new yorks always been one of the most economically depressed states, and seeing as how our economy is shit, the cuse is only gonna get worse. hate to say it but yea
Im a native of Syracuse. Now living in Florida.(go figure). sad to say.. its like that everywhere.. and please.. do us all a favor.. lose the bad organ music .. I feel like I'm at a 1985 wedding ..
@LovelyGranny Haaaa its not like this everywhere not in Salt Lake City where im from. Las Vegas is. lived there for a bit the only difference is that it is brand spanking new shopping ares empty since construction. Ive been to 41 states and its for sure not like this everywhere. Also lived in Texas for a bit and been to every major city multiple times and it is not empty like this. I just moved up on Alexandria Bay, New York and i HATE upstate new york its terrible.
@LovelyGranny The only good thing in NY is NYC. i visited Salt Lake city a couple weeks back and im like damn i forgot how nice its is here in the west. East is kinda old looking west is all new, not that is better or anything. Upstate NY just seems kinda dead and boring to me.
High taxes, no jobs, lousy weather. People complain about most any attempt to do anything in Syracuse. I moved to Arizona in 1997 after growing up in Syracuse. I miss it but have to laugh how they are still trying to build the Carousel Mall expansion 12 years later.
Downtown is a problem, but all the suburbs are OK...some are excellent. I left because of the weather in 1972...for Los Angeles (still there). I visit Syr every few years for pizza and a trip to Skaneateles for Doug's Fish Fry.
Uggh! Syracuse is boring and down right UGLY! Im sorry if I offend anyone who is from there. We are stationed at Ft Drum, and Syracuse is the only place closest to here that has a huge mall, thats the only reason I occasionally go there....
I"m sad to see this. My Mom and I lived in Syracuse from '90-'95. I remember thinking it was rough around the edges, but that things were slowly getting better. There was some rehabilitation going on and new building. The Carousel Mall, Franklin Square, etc. But it looks like things have gotten even rougher. I was hoping they'd continue to improve.

some people are doing it so its possible
thinking about moving there and raisng kids i wouldnt advise it at all.
Yup ... the good ole days. The university seems to be the only thing of notoriety in this town and mostly because of sports. Maybe one day it will get better.
Well, if they cleaned up some things and used really effective marketing strategies to make young professionals want to move there, they would probably be better off. But with the economy the way it is unfortunately no place is really doing well right now.
yep! Fortunately enough for Syracuse though, it has some really nice suburbs all around it so when the economy gets better people will probably be checking it out... we can only hope anyway. :)
Exactly! Like for example, I think it's a beautiful place and could be made absolutely perfect if they just simply cleaned it up a little more. Same with Utica.
Totally... I hate it when people love to complain about what their city looks like and yet they never even do one thing to help it. Time to make 'em help!
Wait and see. It may be awhile. Lots of people are coming back to the area. They (myself included.) will want the conveinence to the University and hospitals that they work at. Downtown is dismal and has been for a long time. It could be nice.
Utica has gone way down too. II's sad that we have to lose so much for malls and lost money because of changes. Go back to the past and see what happens. Money and stores that everyone can afford.
I'd say no more or less than any mid size city ... having lived in places like Washington, DC, Columbus, OH and Albany, NY. Population decrease? Yes, I believe so with lost of jobs like with Carrier, etc.
Sad, but true, it is a dying place. I remember downtown in the 50's and 60's, it was still an awesome place...and going to School and learning the history of Syracuse, and the Erie Canal. Even though I think its too cold for me to live there now, if I ever hit the lottery big....who knows. We try to save the things we love, but Syracuse has fallen like so many "downtowns" before her.
Thank you. I sent this to city hall, and one of the officials there assured me that there are plans to improve downtown. Isn't that what has been said for years???
Syracuse suck a big one. Rochester, NY all day 585.
