This song should be way more emotional. Also it's called "old love" which denotes a love that used to be vibrant but now only lingering in memories. IU doesn't have this much life experience to convey this emotion, and it makes the cover feel too "light-hearted". Though you can argue this is a new feel, I feel like this is disrespectful to the original intention. It's kind of like someone playing a beethoven concerto with their own note arrangement, phrasing, tempo + dynamics

Even Moonsae Lee, the original singer of the song, once said that IU sang this song so well that it does not feel like his song anymore. He was that impressed. You are right that she sometimes shows her age and lack of experience when covering some other songs, but I think she sang this song almost to the perfection.

@2bninja if everyone had to follow your rules, half of all songs would not be sung because the singer "lack" the experience according to the original intention. That would also mean that most songs who deal with love and break up, with death etc. could only be effectively sung by singers who are older than 30 or even 40 years. That just doesn't make sense. Even young singers should be able to interpret a song. That's their job.

Yeah well it's not really the emotion of love or death I'm saying she's unable to encapsulate (she's completely capable IU <3), it's just the emotions of this song in particular. Call me selfish but I think there are songs THAT aren't meant to be covered.... ahem "that's life -sinatra", Cho Young Pil - A leopard of Mt. Kilimanjaro, etc.".
