This is more Wagnerian than The Entrance Of The Gods. Colossal performance (by Gavrilov, I guess), but Richter's is far more nuanced. Gavrilov's bull is charging down the alleys of Pamplona without stopping for air
Christ, I'm friggin Breathless, yo! Sounds more like Horowitz than Gilels. ARE YOU SURE? Until now, my favorite for this Impossible Prelude was Richter, although I adore Kissin's encore, too. But this THIS rips a whole new hole in the velvet. Do you have any details?
@sagalat I agree with you. For 12 years, my favorite was Richter, and yet I think this impresses me more. I'm surprised you call the prelude impossible though -- if you were here I'd play it for you :)
@sagalat I'd play it for you quite well. I'm a pianist by profession, and I have an extensive conservatory education. I also know many, many other people who can play it quite well also. The prelude is very difficult, I grant you, but many advanced conservatory students play it. Not impossible :)
2:24 - 2:30 Wow. This part is very very very difficult and the performer is perfect (both accuracy and power). Great interpretation!!!

I love this. Rachmaninow is my favpuirte composer. I played just two of his preludes, but i love everyone. This is incredible genius!

@formenlehre: You'd "play" it for me? Sure....but HOW WELL?? I, too, can "play" it for YOU....We could have a Competition of The Two Cripples!

I can not express how much I love this prelude! Probably my favourite of Rachmaninov's preludes!
