Well said well said. Now I don't really like MOST BM stuff, but I respect it (i can't really bang double bass for minutes neither is my shredding as good). But you're probably right about what you said. Plus, it's good he put this song out here, it's good to have a change. MDM's becoming too much of a stereotype these days, it's becoming a fad - and what makes it worse is the fact that MDM and metalcore are closely related, and now it's becoming almost the same absurd thing. All about fame now.

If you're talking about In Flames and Children of Bodom, they're no longer considered Melodic Death Metal. Both of them have gone to some metalcore-ish genre.

I hope In Flames gets their head in the right place some day soon (would be nice by the next album). But no, that's not where I was getting at. I'm personally pointing at bands that put no effort into their stuff. We have MDM bands that rip off "At the Gates"/Judas Priest's "Painkiller riffs from the start of the album to the end covered with hardcore vocs, or bands that rip off Bodom's sound. Fast songs, same shred technique, same keyboard sounds/techniques from start to finish.

A lot of the post-hardcore stuff seems to be trying to rip off some stuff from melodeath bands. Having listened to both genre, I've seen a lot of similarities lately.

MDM is becoming more and more main stream with each passing day. I remember it use to be hard to find MDM. And that it was just a few years ago.

The Music it self is even sounding more mainstream. It use to be all about the melodies created in the song, that means at guitar lead that almost never stops. Alot "mdm bands nowadays have a melody at the beginning but they play stupid powerchords through out there verses.

i wouldn't say mainstream, it's still underground, but shitty underground. they're just not putting effort in to it, instead of using their fullest of abilities, they just want to survive and make a living and they use the typical sound to get buy. I go through bands, tons of them, in fact, more than O-man, and it's become quite obvious - unlike us, most kids 15-18 years old haven't heard that many bands, so they can't really tell. instead of bringing somit new, they just wanna sell a "few" cds.

i never said we don't have good stuff coming out these days. We still have stuff that's unique. Insomnium, Swallow The Sun, Virgin Black, Arcana, Wyrd, Rapture, Katatonia (still strong), In mourning, Ikuinen Kaamos, Orphaned Land, and many many more. But bands like Carnal Forge, Subliminal Fear, Slowmotion Apocalypse, Vespers Descent, The Wake, The Absence, now that's what I don't like, similar song structures and riff, the only thing seperating them from metal/deathcore is lack of breakdowns.

When i call a metal band mainstream it is by no means, the same as pop music mainstream. Just more so than other genres, and to me MDM has just become quite more MS than is was. Obviously comparatively to other genres, it just a blip on the screen, in terms of popularity.

Where i'm from very few listen to metal. fewer listen to extreme metal, most of the EMetal listeners are Scene. So im aware its still obscure. unsure if where i live is typical tho.
