Is is true if you max the volume on those old boomboxes the sound quality stays the same compared to these new speakers we have if you turn the sound up it sounds like shit?
I just got myself an old FH 7 to restore. I must say the build quality is great accept for the speakers. What look like APMs are in fact conventional cones hidden behind sponge. Not nice Mr Sony especially since you supplied APMs on the later models!
That's a cool system. I have two FH systems, an FH-7 MK3 & a FH-313RII. The newer one from around 1991 is more bassier with the SAT system. The older "7" is a better quality stereo, much heavier build and more defined sound, but lacks the rock and roll bass. I think this is because the small APM speakers struggled to reproduce heavy bass?
I have seen couple on ebay. around $100-$250 US depending on condition.There are may Sony FH series Boomboxes this is one over the nicer ones.fh-215r,fh-7 mkiii,fh-909r and fh-150r all are great and you would be very happy with any of them.
