cannnot hear the Riff Song without thinking of my dad----he just loved it-and all those parades we marched in--Riffians should have lasted for ever!!! Judy Mack
I was drum major in 1982 when the junior high moved to the old JFK High. We got all the old uniforms and instruments. I wore the exact uniform that is showed in the parade pics. I've got pics of me wearin' it. Right on Desert Rats
I graduated from BHS in '67 and was on the drill team, my brother Jimmy was in the band and played drums, wow does this bring back memories, RIP Jimmy, I love you! This is great, thanks for posting!
SMarquez1102: Attended BHS as a freshman in 1965. Which to many folks might well be eons.
The school colors back then was red and white. Even though I didn't grad from BHS, I felt really sad when they the Riffians(unique and uncommon) to Aztecs(trite and ordinary).
I played the Bb clarinet in the BHS band, and I remember playing this song under Kenny Mack(RIP).
Wow...I got my my freshman year was the last year for the Riffians..I remember voting on the new Mascot and the colors that are now the Aztecs and Red and Gold..memories
Hey Nice! Im part of the Barstow High School Marching Aztec band of 09, and our director talks about the riffians. We still play that fight song(or riffian song) at our home football games and parades. Its crazy how time passes, lol.
I have not heard that song since 1973... I joined the Navy in my senior year. As I signed out of my classes - girls cried. I suppose it was because some guys never made it back from the war. It certainly was not because a single one of them cared about me personally - - I never was very popular... just fodder for SE Asia.
I, too, came from Barstow, California. I played trumpet in the marching band under Kenny Mack during my freshman year. Actually we played the Riff Song faster than this rendition. The school split in 1964-65 and I became a JFK Spartan, but the Riff song is the only fight song I remember. Great tune! Great mascot! Jackie--Class of 1967.
Wow! I still remember how to play that on my flute! Thanks for the memories, it was fun!
