I love this song. I find the original by McLean extremely boring, but Madonna's is great. I do not like the video though. It doesn't fit the song at all.

@sowoni1990 McClean's style was more in a Pop/Folk Rock early '70s style and may not be everyone's cup of tea but it was a heartfelt tribute to some lost music stars. Madonna respected the song's composer and honored him when she covered it.

@castlekingside28 Don McClean's composed the tune not Madonna nor is his version a 'cover' nor is it crappy imo. His version is the original and it is Madonna who covered it and a terrific job she did. The man composed the song as a tribute to Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper the 1950's Rock n' Roll stars who were tragically killed before their time in a plane crash on their way to a concert. Madonna respects McClean and it is unfortunate some of her fans can't.

A cover is supposed to be different, ppl. The artist is suposed to make it their own kind of music, because else, where's the artistic merit? Also, did it ever occur to you that ppl cover songs because they LIKE them and admire the original artist? (perhaps as much as you do?)
