we had limited time in the bush, our goal was to get as much wood out and piled so we could block it in better weather.access to this particular spot was limited to when the swamp was frozen and snow wasnt too deep.
the design doesent permit for the chain to leave the bar.the top guard is 1/4"plate steel.
and how many chains have you broken?obviously filing into the links incorrectly or sharpening the chains beyond their safe limits.it has cut 10 cords without any event whatsoever.the only chain i have ever seen break, went down and tangled in the clutch.keep in mind also, there is no carrying or holding the saw,so fatigue related issues are nonexistent.
@mov.no,saw is bagged.this is a prototype for lack of better words.
at that point ,i have zero dollars invested, added external fuel and oil tanks and a better chain.i cut all the wood to heat 3 houses last year.wasnt about the spped anyway,i wanted a setup that doesent kill the back and wont stick in the forehead or leg.as far as im concerned it was a success.
the saw was free.old pioneer p26.since added external fuel and oil tanks,1 gallon each.it now drops wood on to a converted bale elevator for stacking or loading our trucks.so far i have about 100 dollars invested.
Nice work! It'll be even better if someone gives you a more powerful saw. I hate it when they lack cutting power like that one you're using. Still, it's getting the job done, one piece of firewood at a time! Nice vid!
the 2nd video shows a little better view, i drilled the bar and made a bracket to mount it to a pipe.a pinch bolt at the tip and a plate to carry the throttle, also serves as a guard along the top of the bar.
basically i drilled the bar near the motor, cut a piece of 1/4 inch by 6 plate the length of the bar to serve as a guard.the pivot is a piece of pipe and the saw slides onto it and is held in place with a stop collar.i have some pics of it off the bench, but have no idea where to post them.

Why did you not cut to length when you was in the woods with the same saw, save time.

actually,its a prehistoric pioneer p26.
we've run it for two hours continous with little trouble.
i've since added external fuel and oil tanks.

I would imagine that poulan works good for a while but the clutch must get hot after an hour or so.
