Positively superb review! I've been looking for a miniature HD cam to strap to some model rockets, and you answered all my questions brilliantly. If only more people put this much thought into video reviews on YouTube :)
Thanks for the video however the way you are soldering is the way I was told never to solder - I was always told to heat the wire you are soldering and touch the solder to the wire rather than heat the solder and stick it onto the wire - there again I am a hobbyist myself...
@Techmoan I'm actually thinking of doing the same as I never use it... Perhaps I'll get around doing that the next time I decide to put together another kit!
If we had a room full of every unnecessary l & st we didn't pronounce, we'd need gigantic houses, mortgage bailouts, & giant SUV's to haul all of them.
Just a little tip: If you have some fine-nosed pliers, hold component lead clsoe tot he component body with the tip of the pliers and then bend the lead round the jaws. It reduces the stress on components - not usually critical for resistors but it can make a difference for some caps and especially crystals.
Some of the synonyms in the English language result from invaders and conquests of long ago, which introduced two different ways of expressing the same thing. Otherwise, synonyms have generally similar meanings, but not exactly the same meanings. As for letter Ls, you may as well pronounce them if only for the L of it.
These videos are always excellent even for their entertainment value alone. (That's likely resulted in ever so many grannies watching your soldering video.) Thank you very much.
give yourself more credit -- your soldering technique wasn't too bad, i've seen far worse. the OCD in me likes nice even shiny joints but yours worked and in the end that's all that matters.
@BrianPicchi You've got me there. But then we could get onto why we need to have 'kernel' and 'colonel' when they are pronounced the same.....language is a mine field - it's best just to have a bit of fun with it.
Good work! You have a better soldering iron than me. I've still got one of the cheap 25W ones. I'm torn between getting a nice temperature-controlled soldering station (is that what you have?), or a butane-powered portable soldering iron. I don't like the cable on my iron, it's just inviting someone to trip over it and burn something/someone. But refilling butane every 40 minutes sounds like a hassle. Decisions...
@imroy264 My soldering iron was the cheapest one with a fine point that I could get hold in a hurry a few years ago (an Antex M12). It's a simple 12w non-temp controllable model. I think whether you need a Butane soldering iron depends if you think you will be doing a lot of soldering in places where you might not have access to a mains power source. I just went for the easy and cheap option.
i love your reviews. the soldering was good for a novice. it would make a good pocket watch or if you made the bottom flat it could go on a table or something.
I'm going to get one, only the version I want is the one with the hammer included, so I can put it together and immediately smash it to bits. It's got to be the ugliest watch I ever seen, and I am wearing something from China that cost me $1.68. Remember, though, don't expect any dates wearing this thing. The first look at this thing and they'll all start running. The only thing that would look worse than this watch it to wear a grounding strap as someone mentioned. Fun video, as usual. Thanks.
This might actually be a good starting point to try a big of soldering with, never done it before but I'd feel confident enough to give it a go and without feeling I've wasted too much money either if it did go pear-shaped :)
It took me a minute to find out that the title actually said Solder rather than Soldier...oh well, nicely done as always. I envy your Nixie Watch although I'd rather like one that sits on the table.
Great video as allways! But i dont really know, where could normal people wear this watch, maybee to put somewhere :) Thank you,Waiting for next awesome technic video! :)
@beerman1957 There's a lot of weirdness in differences between spelling and language (English is a devil for having letters that are unnecessary to pronounce the word) - I'm glad you appreciated that I'm just having a bit of fun.

@Techmoan Oh and by the way, you should do more of these kit assembly videos, they're quite entertaining to watch at least from my point of view.

You don't really need tape to hold the components on while you're soldering. Just bending the pins outward will do.
