If someone's got personality, why criticise it? It is people like that that make the world an interesting place! The criticism probably comes from people who have none!
I am learning this piece right now and I have to say that Lang Lang renders a difficult piece into pure beauty, as I have watched his other two interpretations. It is amazing how he can recreate the beauty over and over again. I love this piece now for its rich, rich imagery.
Ever since Lang Lang came to Toms River to play when he was 17 years old and fresh into Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, I as a New Jersey American have admired this brilliant musician and musicologist in one giant package. Personally, I got many folks interested in him and my admiration for Chinese musicians will be for the rest of my life.
Lang Lang has a great personality. The about him that distinguishes him from other pianists for me is that he is more kid friendly. He loves kids and he loves to teach them play
yea it pisses me off when all people can criticize is his facial expressions. At least he has soul in his music. Amazing pianist and probably one of the most accurate pianists. He can play notes at rapid speeds without breaking a sweat or missing any notes.
Some people might find his style a bit over the top, but no doubt he is one of the best young pianist in the world. He is treated like a rock star in China.

what confuses me is how everyone freaks over his technical abilities. Argerich, Pollini, Volodos, Pogorelich....any of those guys (and one lady) could make him look like a little girl any day.
ehhh....watch Argerich's 2007 performance of the Bartok 3rd, or a recent performace of the Tchaikovsky 1 with Pappano....she's in her sixties and playing with the same level of brilliance she had in her twenties.
he is so getting a pianogasm there

I do agree, this guy deserves more respect from the western world than the current.

Such a great guy. People need to stop critizise him for his own style and personality!

Don't be so surprised. America is full of jealous racist pigs....If he's talented, he should be praised for his talent NOT for his appearance.

I'm not putting him down; he's just not my favorite. this world would be a boring place if we all liked the same people :)

We cannot deny it:
He is one of the leading pianists of our time!

I can deny it. very simply.

I think you are right, I posted this half a year ago.
His very great technical ability cannot disguise his
musical and interpretative shortcomings.
But he is still a great talent, striving to render the works
of the great masters properly.
Thank you for reminding.

I have the Dragon Songs CD, and it defines Lang Lang and his style. The works are powerful, and truly speaks louder than words.
