max at the laguna beach wall, dominic remember part of the concert, until u passed out and in the morning you woke up to a full sized mural of the band jammin on the breakwall, with 3 big palm trees in the background
There isn't a track on the album that is even close to being weak. Everything is strong. Everything is even mighty. This is one of the best albums of the 70's and will go down in history as such.
The attitude, the presentation, the playing, the sound... all of it... as pure as it comes. I saw Kim and the boys at a high school concert in '76. Even though we'd seen it all, we knew then that we were seeing something special. They were unreal... nothing like Max.
@jeffthecanuck2 "The door's open and the stairs are steep" referred to the upstairs lounge at the Gasworks in TO. Those stairs from the front were really steep.. then there was the spiral staircase at the back.. the quart beers for 2 bucks..those were the days..the bouncer named Peter 10 Bears..
i had this lp as a kid and mine didnt say "featuring kim mitchell" on it? i wouldnt have cared anyways - i just found this in my mom and stepdads albums and i have always loved it since i felt adventurous and put it on one bored afternoon - One of the best albums EVER! :)
@jgunner13 OK, this is the original(minus the featuring Kim...). Relesed in the states as "Hangover", & no machine, just one giant head. (O & the back had a pic of post-party coffee table - made perfect sense @ the time. Kim's playing notwithstanding, this was largely Pye's genius. - -'scuse me, - -fucking HUGE genius.
@jgunner13 Wow, where did that come from? I was only echoing your info & adding some more. The opinion was about giving Pye his due, since most talent related comments are about Kim & Terry. No offence intended. "Carve away the war."
Cover's and Crapitalist's aside ,,, Love this album ! Lived it ! No brother's to hand it down to me ! Webster was a BAND ! QUIT nit picking ,, enjoy ! Jeez ,, it's this it's that no ,, he no they NAH he as she did that ,, F'K ! Roll your chair outside awhile !!!
I saw this group as the warm up act at a Rush Concert in 1978. Kim was running around the stage in red long johns. I never heard of him before, but I was blown away by his guitar playing. Fast forward about 25 years - I saw him again as part of a three piece group. The long johns were gone, but both he and his band were as awesome as ever.
I LOVE Kim Mitchell, but dislike how the record company tacked "featuring Kim Mitchell" on all the CD Max Webster releases. I understand the marketing purpose, but damn, this was a band. And again, this is no slam on Mr. Mitchell. Fact is, he is one of my all-time favourite artists, songwriters, guitar players, ever. Genius, in my opinion.
No, I think, as I said, the record company put the tag on the covers to capitalize on Kim's then-fame (late 80s). He was big then, and many weren't aware of his being a member of Max Webster. To help sales, you know.
That can't be possible because Kim Mitchell started his solo career in the early 80s, and this album was released in 1976, it was the first Max Webster album.
Yes, but the first pressing of Max records to CD only happened when that digital technology became available ... the 80s. Max Webster albums were not available on CD until well after Kim had gone solo. By that time, Kim, as a solo artist, had exceeded Max's fame, and therefore the record companies likely decided to tack the "featuring Kim Mitchell" on the CD releases as a way to entice and make aware Fans of KIm's solo work.
If I recall my older brother's vinyl copies of the albums, no, it didn't. And why would it? Kim was hardly a known name at the time of the debut's release. Max Webster was a band, straight up. At that time, who would have cared if it "featured Kim Mitchell"?
OMG!!!!! I haven't heard this in 30 years!!!! So Cool!!!! Thank You!!!

They paved the way for Max Headroom

Kim's playing, at times, sounds exactly like Zappa.

This was heavy shit in the mid-70s, man.

I think it was just a joke made by the band.

Thats why I thought it was a joke.

I gotcha. No, it was added in later years on the CD releases as a promotional tool.
