  • Where did you get the Green Man soil?

  • @lorez201

I got it from local gardening store, I think it is locally pack here in Malaysia, not sure if you can find it in your place, but for your info, it is just ordinary potting soil. The brand doesn't matter though, I have used other brands of potting soil with similar composition as stated in the label of the Green Man packaging :D

  • yeh... me too... thgh im sure that some led's are very expensive... like the new led t8 and t5 fluorescent tubes... ther like 40 bucks lowest... each...!!! :O but the only light that i have experienced with is the t8... so idk if the metal halide or the t5 or the high output is more expensive... but i think its the fixture's that give off most of the PRICY side... ;P

  • @bluedisk0123

Metal halide are expensive......even DIY :(......but still the T5 is in the affordable range compare to the metal halide :D.......but I prefer T8 over T5 :)....but there's another type that I like too, PLL bulbs :D

  • @borneosucker lol... wats PLL... :?)

  • @bluedisk0123

Haha...I don't know what PLL stands for, but a quick search, it stands for Polarized Light, and lol, it doesn't make sense to me either, but I try to describe how it looks like :D.....it comes with a twin tube, some are made in a U-shape, and the pin(the connector) are on one end of the tubes, and there are 4 pins all together arrange in a row

  • @borneosucker OH yeh... ive seen those polarized lights... thy kind of remind me of CFL lights... haha... so hows this tank tht u projected on... in this vid...? OH wow.. two years ago... u prob took it down.. did u...?

  • @bluedisk0123

haha yeap, I like them, because their power to size ratio is higher when compare to T8 or T5, good for me when creating high lighting tanks :D.....yes, took it down already, and recreated another one, haha :D

  • @borneosucker really i didnt kno that.. thts awsome... so u use those Polarized lights for your tanks...?

  • @bluedisk0123

Yeap :D.....depending on what I wanna achieve :D....but problem with these PLL is that they produce the most heat compared to T8 or T5, and limited in size, so you have to combine bulbs when using in large tank.

  • @borneosucker OH i c... so in a 20 long.. youll prob need like three or four of them to acheive highlighting...?

  • @bluedisk0123

you meant 20inch long tank?.....probably 2 x 36Watts PLL, coz 36Watts are about 1.5ft long. If 55Watts, it will be too long for the tank, coz it is approx 2ft long

  • @borneosucker REAlly... dang.. idk it was that long... lol... thnkx..

  • @bluedisk0123

haha, you will know it when you explore on the various option of bulbs for aquariums :D.....but I like to keep it simple, so T8 or PLL will do, I haven't yet own a large tank, if I do, maybe I might explore on MH as well :D, damn, they expensive :(

  • @borneosucker LOL... ;P ... me too.. the only big tank i have is the 20 gallon long... i wish i can switch it with like a 55 gallon or like a bigger tank... oh how i wish... :(

  • @bluedisk0123

how many tanks do you have btw? and why haven't you switch to a 55 gal tank?

  • Comment removed

  • @borneosucker i only have a 20 gal long... that has stock.. other then that i have two 2.5 gal's... well i really dont kno if i want a 55, but i kno i want a bigger tank... lol... and right now i cant becuase really i dont kno where to put it and thers little kids living with me... so right now my 20 is not on a stand.. its on a counter in the living room... where most kids dont go to... my LFS is having a huge anniversery sale and everythin is like 40- 100 percent off, i hope i have time to go.

  • @bluedisk0123

Ahh I see, when you have small kids around, you hardly can put your eyes away from them, especially when they are playing around your tank. 3 tanks is good number :D...I think soon you will populate your house with more tanks :D this hobby is addicting!...40-100%...100% lolz, that's free stuff :D......sadly, I don't get this kind of promotions in my LFS, never :(.....but I guess there is in the larger cities in other states, but always too far for me to go :(

  • @borneosucker LOL... true... haha... i kno free!!! but its always like the food or like the decoration... i wish it was the tanks.... haha... the tanks are like prob highest 50 percent off.... but its prob like the 10 gallons and smaller ones... or like the kits... thts sad if they dont do that... at your LFS... mines has coupons and sales and all of that kind of stuff.... but omg these kids are so damanding... and i have colloge things to do... so little time is spent for me... lol... :[

  • @bluedisk0123

LOLz...they even have coupons :(.....I'm jealous, haha :D, even though discount on small items, but that just create the mood visit the LFS :D....btw, the kids are your children? why are they demanding?

  • @borneosucker haha true... um no ther not and really its not children.. lol..its a little girl and shes a sports girl so shes very athletic and about moving everywhere in the house.... shes my younger sis... shes not so demanding but she likes to play with me alot of the time... so shes always with me... :)

  • @bluedisk0123

Ok, that explains why you don't want her near your tank :D.....haha, why don't you get her a betta fish? could keep her a little busy caring for her fish :D

  • @borneosucker Haha r u crazy.... lol... she will take care of it well but then i dont think she knows how to feed it... haha... ill just keep her away from these things for now.. since she like kicking soccer balls in the house...

  • @bluedisk0123

haha, you have to be her teacher :D....teach her to care for it :).....but ermm...kicking soccer balls in the house, who is the goal keeper?.....haha :D

  • @borneosucker haha... last time i let her feed fish... she ended up feeding my fishes 8 times a day... lol... the walls, lamps, chair, fishtank are her goal keepers... :O !!!

  • @bluedisk0123

Woahaha, 8 times a day :D...reminded me of the similar experience when dealing with kids.....haha :D

  • @borneosucker Lol... haha... wat...?

  • @bluedisk0123

yeap :D....you are not the only one have trouble with kids, me too, but not mine of course, haha, not yet :D

  • @borneosucker yeh... me too... thgh im sure that some led's are very expensive... like the new led t8 and t5 fluorescent tubes... ther like 40 bucks lowest... each...!!! :O but the only light that i have experienced with is the t8... so idk if the metal halide or the t5 or the high output is more expensive... but i think its the fixture's that give off most of the PRICY side... ;P

  • @borneosucker Ummm.. i think alot of them are.. but the ones i got was a bulb type... so it fits into an regular incandescent fixture... mines were 13 bucks... But i do kno that the LED fluorescent t8 and t5 are expensive... like 40 bucks each bulb... PRICY... but i havent gone with any t5 so idk if those are expensive too... the only fluorescent i have touched were t8's... then i turned to led lighting... ^_^

  • @bluedisk0123

I think I have seen the LED bulb type, but never bother to try them, haha. T5 would be slightly expensive than the T8's...but there are so many range of T5, even some are cheaper than T8, those lower wattage type.

  • HEY... i forgot if i asked u this but... u would need high lighting to get these glossos to carpet right...?

  • @bluedisk0123

yeap :D.....they fall in the category of high lighting plant for carpeting growth :D

  • @borneosucker lol... thnx...i asked becuase this dude had 2x36 watt CFL lights on his glosso's and they carpeted...

  • @bluedisk0123

    2x36 watt, that's nice :D......but I have grown them carpet under 2x15watt T8 over a 1.5x1x1 (ft) LWH :D

  • @borneosucker WOW really... thts nice.. to hear... thgh it would depend on how far it is from the lights too right....?

  • @bluedisk0123

yeap :D.....I grow them in my moss wall tank :D.....yes of course, the deeper your tank, the stronger you need to penetrate into the water, but standard tank size doesn't matter much. When I first started with glosso, many suggested to go with T5, but due to my location, the LFS here don't cater much for the aquatic plant hobby, so I have to look for alternative, and with my limited knowledge at that time, T8 was my best option :D...and it still works, hehehe :D

  • @borneosucker DARN... ;P thts good... i think t5 for me are alittle on the pricy side for me... lol... im tryin leds on my tank with vals.. and so far ther growing very nice... thgh i have no clue if im on the low light side or medium light side... i think im not in highlight... thgh... any suggestions..?

  • heloo... so u would advise to buy the gloss and seperate them.. right...?

  • @bluedisk0123

It is much better to grow them as individual plantlet rather than a big bunch. So yeah, separate them into individual plantlet is much recommended :D

  • @borneosucker alright thank you....

  • @bluedisk0123

    Always welcome :D

  • @borneosucker And how would i plant them... ive read that your suppose to stick them all the way into your substrate leaving the leaves up and another leaving nothing out... which way is prefered from you.. as i can see u didnt plunge the whole thing down... thank you

  • @bluedisk0123

The first one :D...stick them all the way into the substrate leaving the leaves....well actually you don't have to stick them that deep, as long as they get a good hold, that will be good enough. Given the right condition, they will eventually start carpeting

  • @borneosucker Ok... very helpful... im using organic dirt too under all my sand.... and my sand is like 2 inches deep.. so should i stick them about 2 inches down then... my dirt is like 2 inches deep too... ( dustin videos... about dirt for plants... )

  • @bluedisk0123

wow, your glosso 2inches?....anyway with sand and at 1 inch deep, is already good enough to hold the glosso, of course deeper will guarantee a better hold :D

  • @borneosucker Alrighty.... thnx... huh what u mean my glosso is 2 inches... i dont have any glosso right now.... lol.... :D.. though when the glosso spreads everywhere... would it be ok if the glosso touches the other plants.. like if they are close together...

  • @bluedisk0123

haha because you mention you wanted to stick them 2inches down into the substrate, so I guess it is quite long :D yes, it will be ok, let them touch whoever they like :D...it will create a much more natural feel

  • @borneosucker Oh.. haha... OMG... :D.... Though what would cuase the glosso's to pearl or like to start giving off oxygen bubbles...would it be the high lighting, ferts and substrate....?

  • @bluedisk0123

hmm...so far I observed, they will pearl when you inject in CO2....I have never seen a carpeting glosso pearl without supplementing CO2

  • @borneosucker OK thnx... ^_^

  • @bluedisk0123

    always welcome :D

  • How tall does the Glosso grow? like 4"

  • @MriBackup

they grow tall in poorly lit tank.....they will also start to grow tall even in the carpeting form, when the growth gets too tick :(

  • @borneosucker Thanks

  • Thanks for the vid!

  • @MriBackup

    Cheers~! :D
