  • rubbish!

  • @thechessstick-Andy was tony. Tony clifton was not a real person.

  • @niclovin24 vwooooosh...

  • Too bad Tony quit performing. I think he couldn't go on after Andy died.

  • @thechessstick i found that funny sir

  • Very kind of you to post this video danceonair86 ever since I watched Jim Carrey's "Man on the Moon" I wanted to se Andy's real performance at Carnegy Hall. So in the words of the King I would like to "Thank you! Thank you very much! :)"

  • @yuppieguitar1 I was merely stating how he still lives in the minds of those that weren't there to witness how great he was. 'Here's a cookie?' Fucking gold comment bro :/

  • Tony's "This is a Wife" poem made me weep. What a sensitive son of a bitch. It should be a part of The National Anthem itself.

  • Andy died in what was it '82? I was BORN in '88. This man is a fkn genius. Regardless of whether you believe he's alive in the flesh or not, his legend will live forever. This bloke is the Michael Jackson of comedy. Absolute bloody legend

  • @TheKissesfromme Wow, you were born in '88? Cool story bro. Here, have a cookie.

  • @JunquieRose Yep, Tony Clifton. God love him, he never gets old.

  • LOOK, I'M DANCING! I'M DANCING! :D

  • @LuckySaturn I believe Andy Kaufman always claimed that this was the real Tony Clifton at Carnegie Hall ...Although no one really knows.

  • Andy lives! So is Elvis!

  • meant to say was the real guy tony clifton...i love how he kept you wondering.

  • very difficult to distinguish. was andy andy or was he a man in character...or was the real guy andy kaufman...the great thing about thim, he always left you guessing. i love it.

  • @txmomoftwo1 gee you people are stupid! lol It was his friend bob. Did you not see the movie?

  • @LRonHubbardFuckFace ,,,yeah but @ the end of movie bob was in the audience too, oneyear after death........Andy k.

  • @LRonHubbardFuckFace Bob is at 7:43; i think this was perhap Andy's brother (Michael?)

  • tony cliftons boss

  • King of pranks

  • you know he's not real because he doesnt inhale his smoke

  • It was announced that Osama was dead. I watched this immediately

  • why don't they put this on dvd? hell, i'd buy it!

  • He did a better job of the Stars and Stripes than Christina Aguilera

  • jim carrey does andy kaufman brilliantly

  • This is the goddamn funniest comedy show I ever saw in my life, hands down. Pryor, Carlin, to hell with them. The first time I saw this. I realized it was actually possible for a human being to die from laughing. You can literally suffocate like I almost did.

  • @JamesTKirkCobain I thought the one for HBO was funnier. Here-

    /watch?v=3xHeONG6N4M

  • Is that Andy or Bob Zmuda?

  • i thought he didn't smoke

  • @andrewdeangelo1011 Maybe thats how he got the cancer? His alter ego smoked but andy didn't !! real confusing yes it is!!

  • i'm such a HUGE Andy / Tony fan.... he was "before my time" sorta...but thanks to Jim Carey Andy has been "brought back".... i grew up with Taxi playing in the background as the tv was on 24/7 in my childhood... but i was too young to get it then.... this clip is one the best i've found yet... Andy Coffman reminds me of both Leigh Bowery and Eminem... hee hee hee... i love them both deeply....

  • The greatest performance artist of all time.

  • @LuckySaturn that's because it is him. so it sounds like him. because it is him.

  • ANDY KAUFMAN SMOKED IN HIGH SCHOOL EVERYBODY

  • that's why andy kaufman had lung cancer,,, because tony is a chain smoker

  • @thekrameoj1 he never inhaled with Clifton

  • @keat36 lol! are you serious??? lol!

  • @thekrameoj1 It's been well established, really, he makes it look like he does by taking it into just his mouth, but not lungs. A lot of actors do that if they don't want to smoke.

  • @keat36 lol! andy still got the lung cancer because of tony clifton, you know why??

    - involuntary smoking, secondhand smoke and even worst the Third-Hand smoke. <",)

  • @thekrameoj1 that makes no sense. and I disagree anyways.

  • He sung it better then Roseanne ever did! ahah!

  • you can't really see it in this video, but there is nazi imagery behind tony clifton as he sings the national anthem

  • Ha ha ha - I'm always sold on USA humour but Andy Kaufman is a legend!!

  • Thanks so much for posting this danceonair. Thanks so much.

  • it looks like andy.

  • ladies and gentlemen they don't make entertainers like that any more. Tony Clifton had the crowd in the palm of his hand

  • MY BUM IS FULL OF POO

  • MILK & COOKIES! Thank you, thank you, thank you for uploading the show!!!

  • people say Andy did not smoke

But Tony Clifton did so tony killed andy

  • not only that, but you can tell from the face if you're observant enough.

  • Wish I were alive back then to meet him.

    =/

  • @mcrfreak94 that'll be a treat...

  • You're just not a fan of Andy's, that's all. Not all that serious.

  • First time I have ever seen ANYBODY sing the National Anthem with a cigarette! Only Andy!

He actually had a pretty good Al Jolson voice....

  • Tank you berry berry much for posting video. i am much thank you for posting. tank you berry much ;->

  • Wrong. His greatest work is getting many many people to believe he is still alive. I'm amazed at how many don't know how he did it. He clearly knew he had a cancer before he revealed it to ANYONE. Then, he told a few individuals he was going to "fake" his death by having cancer (BEFORE revealing that he actually had it). The man was brilliant

  • The preponderance of evidence, though, shows that he's alive. Death certificates are easily faked. Why you guys seriously want to believe he's dead, I'm not sure. He's Schrodinger's comic -- it could go either way but so many people need to believe he's dead. It's just weird.

  • Everybody can believe whatever they want. Nothing weird about it. What's weird is you felt it necessary to comment me w/ this.

  • @klwewf Andy had spoken of faking his death as early as 1981. That's a long gestation for lung cancer. I've had friends who died of lung cancer. I know too damned well what they looked like two months before. They didn't look like what Andy looked like two months before. He isn't dead. Now if you wish to believe he is, fine, but we're both left with our proof.

  • Supposedly he was to return 10 years after faking the death. He's still nowhere to be found. His prank was getting people (like you) to wait for his "return". People like you are the joke. He pulled his ultimate fast one on you & you missed completely. I look forward to your next "too long" paragraph on why you "think" he is alive. I can't believe I actually responded to you again. o_O

  • @klwewf No, he didn't. He said he'd wait twenty years -- and then do you really think Andy would do something the way people expect him to? No, I think your theories are the problem. You've opined arrogantly that "obviously" he did X when I have proved to you he couldn't have done that. I believe he's already surfaced and people haven't recognized it yet. Beyond that, believe what you like.

  • LOL - You almost got me w/ this non sense. But, I know you're actually one who emphasizes observable facts and excludes metaphysical speculation about origins or ultimate causes, like me. I do realize you're kidding & all. But, be careful. This IS in fact YouTube. And, many people reading your statements will believe you are actually deranged & have a serious emotional & mental disorder. Good one though. Kaufman would be proud of this "put on", if he were still w/ us.

  • @klwewf I'm absolutely real and honest. I'm an atheist, I don't believe in metaphysical speculation, I believe in fact and analysis. Oh, and using the old "mentally ill" snipe to threaten someone who disagrees with you? lol Yeah, they tried it with Andy, too. Listen, live in your gray goth dungeon as you will. Believe what you will. One day, you'll know I'm right. On that day, I'll be giggling at you. ;)

  • LOL

  • @fazg2 No he is actually, unfortunately, very dead

  • No, he's alive. There's much more proof of that than there is that he's dead.

  • @evoiceable

Really? I would be interested in what that proof is. Perhaps you could enlighten me.

  • @shannon7733 Line me up five friends of his who think he's dead and I'll show you five friends (who saw him shortly before his "death") who believe he's alive. I'm serious. Go out and talk to Andy's friends. You'll be surprised at the diversity of opinion on this. Every bit of "proof" I've seen that he's dead is countered by proof that he's alive. For one thing, a chestful of hair after supposed "radiation" treatment. It's a tribute to his genius that so many believe this but he's alive.

  • @evoiceable

I'm still waiting for some proof. All you've done is say what other people said they have seen. Names? Citations where you can see the proof? Documentation? Reliable Reports? Other than someone saying I have seen him, because how many Elvis sightings have there been, or Hoffa? What's all this about a chestful of hair? Did you DNA test it to see it was his? Provide PROOF!! Not bullshit

  • @evoiceable

I'm still waiting for some proof. All you've done is say what other people said they have seen. Names? Citations where you can see the proof? Documentation? Reliable Reports? Not bullshit

  • @shannon7733 Elvis or Hoffa never told upwards of a dozen people they were going to fake their own deaths. Death certs were available for $500 then. He was Jewish (his parents conservative) and his funeral defied every custom. He had hair on his chest after "radiation treatments". You see a lung cancer patient 2 months before death? I have. They DON'T look like Andy did. But believe what you want to. You'll know one day I'm right. End of discussion.

  • @evoiceable

Wow again, all of your 'proof' is completely weak. You understand we are talking about Andy Kaufman? That is the IRONY of it all. He thought his biggest joke would be to fake his own death, however he actually died from cancer. That is the irony. As far as the chest hair is concerned, how in the hell do you know it is HIS chest hair from AFTER his radiation treatment? The funeral, well it's Andy Kaufman, his parents understood he wasn't a conservative Jew. Give me proof!

  • @shannon7733 Wow again, you write just like kwewf. lol I'm talking about Andy Kaufman, you're talking about the media figure you half-know. I've seen the pictures of Andy AFTER the putative radiation treatment. I also know his physician Dr Marx put him on a very strict diet at the time. They don't put terminal cancer victims on diets. Andy was buried in a conservative Jewish cemetery. Some customs would HAVE TO BE observed. Like I said, believe what you like ... the truth is the truth.

  • @evoiceable It's quite obvious you are not going to produce a shred of evidence. All you have produced is 'He said, They said, I heard of, blah blah blah blah.' You are incapable of providing PROOF. It's very easy to say the things you are as they are simply being regurgitated by others who believe he is still alive. Give me ONE solid, shred of evidence. Not just garbage you spew of what you've heard or some 'pictures' you've seen. Give me links to sites with real evidence.

  • @shannon7733 I've given you a ton of evidence (see your other ID's replies). When you can't refute my evidence you call me mentally ill or throw names around. I suspect you and the other guy are the same person and are probably trolls so I'm merely going to ignore you from now on. I honestly don't give a damn what you believe - if you need to believe Andy is dead then by all means do so. The truth remains the truth. Goodbye to you (under both your guises).

  • @evoiceable

    You would fail law school.

  • Andy did a graet job with Tony Clifton.

  • Turning the world upside down without the bullshit of Surrealism...a genius!

  • Awesome. Thanks for posting it!

  • i wish i had that medalion

  • R.I.P. Andy

  • thank you fo much for uploading this show here. i am just reading the book "Lost in the funhouse"..and read about this show. Great!!

  • was the book any good? i dont usually do biographies, usually horribly innacurate, but he seems like such an interesting figure you can't help but want to know more about,

  • it is really good and worth to read! I recommend it! You really want to know more about Andy... he was really interesting human being.

  • hes in his own world

  • awsome

  • 7:16

    "...Look I'm dancin', I'm dancin!'"

Yes you are, Andy, dancing in Heaven. And we're all down here on Earth, cryin'.

  • Pffft everyone knows hes still alive!

  • Too bad they cut out the goose stepping Nazis and Hitler during the National Anthem.

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • Andy was sometimes puffing on cigarettes/cigars when playing Tony Clifton. so the occurrence of a rare lung cancer isn't nearly impossible, but it still shouldn't have happened, let alone so soon...

  • tenk you very much!.... as the foreign man sez. awesome post - been looking for this for a long time. a cookie for every fan

  • wow jim carreys tony clifton voice was very exagerated in man on the moon

  • omfg i love andy kaufman :D he is amazing i wish i was alive to really meet him he died 2 days after my husband was born so we both never got to meet him but we have alot of andy kaufman stuff like books movies etc :D

  • Thank you for sharing this.

  • All that eminent death emotion from the movie was totally fake? I hate that.

  • wonderful

  • What a treat...one of my heroes for my entire life.

I had this on VHS when I was a kid...which as we all know, VHS does us no good now.

But to have this available is the answer to the problems of the masses!

  • I read the description for this, and I would personally like to say thank you and I appreciate it VERY much.

    Thank you danceonair86!

    ~Ayet

  • This is one of the few times when Andy himself played Tony(The Dinah Shore show being another example). His friend Bob Zmuda(Played by Paul Giamatti in "Man on the Moon") played Tony most of the time.

  • I don't think that's accurate. I've seen plenty of footage of Andy playing Tony, probably more so than Bob. You can tell when it's Bob because he's a fair bit shorter and heavier. I do think Bob played Tony more for the talk show appearances, however.

  • Feel free to let me know if you've caught stuff I may have missed. I love Tony Clifton and the overwhelming majority of the stuff that I've seen is Bob Zmuda. Dinah Shore, this, and the Muppet Show are the only Andy as Clifton appearances that come to mind.

  • I've read the book 49 times. More Zmudie than Kaufman.

  • So I'm guessing the Tony Clifton on tour last year was Zmuda

  • You got it. I've seen videos here where you can hear someone shouting "Kaufman!" thinking it MIGHT be Andy, but aside from the fact that someone whose watched them both play the role frequently can tell fairly easily which one is under the disguise, someone who attended one of the shows apparently overheard one of the entourage referring to "Tony" as "Bob"(As in Bob Zmuda).

  • Oh yeah.

    Bob's the best.

Andy and Tony may have co-created Tony (In his book Bob actually gives Andy most of the credit but without Zmuda's "Mr.X"/Norman Wexler stories I doubt that Tony would've ever come into existence.) but it was Bob who perfected him.

  • I read that book too. Bob tends to exaggerate. There are a few things in there he mentions that can be found here on YouTube that was nowhere near as "intense" as he states in the book. Besides, Andy hired Zmuda. Without Kaufman's generosity, vision & wisdom, Zmuda would still be a short order cook.

  • In fact, if you read that Zmuda book, you surely read about the experiment on pages 92-93 (about Kaufman & Dr. Zmudee on the show Bananaz w/ the "Dr." talking about psychogenesis). Type the following in the search box above just like this : The Passion of Andy Kaufman - Bananaz I - 4 of 16. And you'll see that wasn't exactly the way Bob explains in the book. It was great. Just not what was in the book.....

  • Eyewitness testimony being notoriously inaccurate,

(And biographies/autobiographies are pretty much eyewitness testimonials about the events of a life) I dont doubt that Bob DID exaggerate but have you ever(And I'm being serious here) read any kind of biography that DIDNT exaggerate in one way or another?

  • Thanks for helping to prove my point.

  • Who said I was arguing with you?

    You're welcome.

  • I have to say that I prefer Bob doing Tony over Andy doing Tony. It's more believable.

  • How so?

  • This is just my opinion but when Andy did Tony it seemed more like a parody. Whereas when Bob does Tony, it's like a living breathing three-dimensional person. Even Andy himself said that he was impersonating Tony.

  • Okay

  • Huh Andy killed with that last number. It was no parody. I think how Andy performed as Tony was up to the audience.

  • ???????

  • Thanks for these, I've wanted to see them for ages now!

  • 3- Do you know something?, I just have been researching about AK because I admire his intelligence, and his performance at HIS TIME (not only at the theaters, I mean) but PLEASE, STOP, I AM NOT INSIDE YOUR MADNESS, PEOPLE. I don´t know which are your purposes with all your circus, I am not in it. I was asking you , like a lot of people in the net, only to know more about AK. That´s it.

  • 2-And yes, ´Andrea´ I am alive, despite the emails from your ´group´ , plenty of sarcasms saying that you have been spreading that I am dead (?!). Please, ´woman´or whatever, don´t crash my account here, again, don´t send false complaints to the Youtube people on charge, and also, please, don´t crash again my passwords and my computer.

  • LOL, I'm gonna assume you're kidding (?) But if you're not, then this is weird and I have no idea what you're talking about

  • Sorry. You are quit right. Instead of August 1983, it should be written: AUGUST 1982. Thank to correct me :) First diagnosis of cancer, then, August 1982. Perhaps before. Perhaps some years before.

  • I was referring to your msg where you claim I spread lies of you being dead. Is that suppose to be some kind of a joke? Please let me now, you're confusing me :)

  • Please, would you like to tell us, WHEN Kaufman was ´in fact´ diagnosed with cancer? Second week of January 1983? Perhaps, better it could be to say August 1983. Because , of course, no matter of discussion ´Bronchogenic Carcinoma´ IS CANCER. Then, TE FIRST DIAGNOSIS WAS NOT AT JANUARY 1983, IT WAS BEFORE, aUGUST 1983. Nobody (at least until today) say a word about what FOUR years before.

  • He's a phoney baloney! A photo-Clifton!
