  • The Very Best "Band-Only" Version!!!!!

  • Carter went ham and a half at this show for sure, gotta say Live in Chicago 98 is my favorite live version though. But this has incredible band only jam 7:00 was a crazy peak

  • best live version was like 32 mins long with bella fleck

  • You are right. This is the best live version I have heard.

  • Can someone tell me were this was

  • @sbgitana, it was complications from a atv accident. I think it was a infection.

  • I was blessed to see DMB perform a couple of months after Leroi passed away at the Cricket Pavilion in Glendale ,AZ They did an awesome tribute to him for this song...Had to have lasted 12-15mins. Best performance I have EVER seen. R.I.P Leroi

  • @Firstup220 How did he pass away?: From what?

  • pure ecstasy

  • I had this recording many MANY moons ago. This version used to mess me up!!! This IS the definitive version. This may have been the first time we heard Leroi and Carter do the big build together. Soon after they played #41 on Letterman just like this. Dammit I miss the good old days. Bless you for posting this. (Best vox for Dave too!)

  • I saw DMB in Houston a few days after Leroi passed away. RIP Leroi, you are missed by fans around the world.

  • Live in Chicago with Victor Wooten is also a good one. And any that have the Sojourn of Arjuna jam in it with Jeff Coffin

  • This is the best Dave jam out live. One can't help but love it

  • Woooooooooooow!!! Leroi you still blow me away!!!! You are missed

  • listener supported version in nj is the best

  • This is probably my favorite song ever, by the DMB...but I like the version from "Live at Luther" best...

  • saw dave in 2010. great show. he is amazing!

  • what show was this???

  • What show is this?

  • @MysticDMBherb 11-09-1996 its in the title look it up on dmbalmanac, if you don't know what that is........... well you welcome haha and if you know what it is then look it up =)

  • went to this tour when they came to the bay area...

    geez it was amazing

  • the 4/20/2002 32 minute performance of 41 was the best version bar none. Had Boyd not messed up at the very end, it would've been perfect.

  • @extreme67 U2 wrote "Miami"

  • @warlockbuddy why yes they did, U2 also wrote "Mofo", but this ain't the place for that.....

  • @extreme67 ehhhh its ok i've listened to the entire thing its great but I have 136 other versions and some of them are even more stellar. but i will agree whatever version ends up being the best will have Bela Fleck and the Flecktones in it.

  • is this from an album or is this a bootleg?

  • By far their best live song. I mean any version, this song live is always outstanding. My fav is the one from Live From Luther College with Tim Reynolds.

  • @W2ATL i like radio city better its the best sung version the jam wasn't that great but dave hit every note right and I just have to say that for 41 that means the world to me.

  • i like listener supported better

  • me gusta mucho

  • The most amazing song ever. Love you DMB!

  • i love leroi but jeff coffin is much better

  • roi roi is amazing, literally speachless after that

  • gotta love 4-7-95 @ duke... 41 police... the 1st #41 ever

  • Me and my band love this song, so we've covered it! Please check it out, I'd really really appreciate it. :)

  • I love these earlier versions. A little more upbeat and way more energy IMO

  • Idk, instrumentally that may be, but Dave's voice definitely isn't top quality in this one

  • i agree grea grea grea jam i wish it was on video

  • Dave Matthews Band - #41

  • awesome! but still prefer woodstock.

  • its not playing

  • no way chicago with Victor Wooten Or the one with Warren Haynes

  • well, this version is quite something..

    thanks a lot to seekmeup41 !

  • Wow, indeed.....this is the best 41. Nice find!

  • the reason this is the sickest version is because it was probably one of the first recordings of the massive drum fill with Leroi's sax. They nailed it. I used to listen to that version a million times. Props to the man for putting this up and naming it the BEST. It is.

  • LOVE THIS SONG!

  • the reason this is the sickest version is because it was probably one of the first recordings of the massive drum fill with Leroi's sax. They nailed it. I used to listen to that version a million times. Props to the man for putting this up and naming it the BEST. It is.

  • My favorite song by DMB. LeRoi Moore inspired me to play the saxophone and I thank him for that. I sure do miss his sax and music.

  • @scoopztb its all about jeff coffin

  • hershey park 7/24/2009. best version i ever seen 20 minutes long unbelievable sax solo

  • @mdbball0143 totally agree that hershey show was groovy with 41/sojourn of arjuna. coffin did one effing job on the sax with that one

  • @mdbball0143 I was there for this!!!!

  • the best versions of this song is when he emphasizes "loneliness". this is not one of them.

  • I went to a concert in 11/98 when he did 41 with Bella Fleck, which they also did at several locations on that tour. I have a recording that's 16 minutes. AWESOME

  • Wouldnt it be great if you went to a concert this summer and dave came out wearing pajama pants like the old days

  • I really love that third picture with all the guys jamming at the street.. it would be so amazing to be a friend of them and get together to jam outside xD

  • This is the best band only version of this song I've heard.

  • this version is sick for the whole band being in it. Easily my favorite version is Live at Luther College with him and Tim Reynolds playing it acoustically. That version has always been my favorite

  • @mbasketcballb lol yeah pretty much the one i was talking is when he starts to sing the second half of the second verse at the end of the first verse instead of going into the chorus... that might ahve been confusing but yeah what u said

  • I absolutely love Leroi's tone. It's the type of sound I'm shooting for.

  • Does anyone know what album this song (transition) is from? Heard it on alternative radio a few years back but have not been able to find the album.

  • Sorry dude, best version hands down is on Weekend on the Rocks (not to be confused with Live at Red Rocks which doesn't have #41 on it) 15 minutes worth of amazing!

  • Seekmeup41 - you do have a good point on the extended outros though.

  • @andrewtshort Live at Chicago.. 98.. best version of this song ever.. in fact my favourite live concert of all times !

  • @andrewtshort yeah i dunno about that i'll agree this isnt he BEST version i got 21different versions of 41 im still sticking with the 4/20 performance or live trax 7 weekend on the rocks was alright but nothing special

  • I simply adore it. they are just amazing, AMAZING, so much life, so much passion in it

  • Pure AWE

  • THEE best version of 41 can be found on Listener Supported

  • life is good but this band makes it even better. understanding and going with the flow help you think how cool u can make something really good with the collaboration with friends. just the sound of different instruments that u dont hear together in a everyday life. it makes me want to go out a make a change in the world hahah... this band is unique and awesome.

  • Yes, you are correct. This is the best version of the song. Thank you for posting!

  • at :51 whose the dude on the left..is it tim?

  • Yeah thats tim. You can tell because he can fit in the palm of your hand

  • @spudchabaz I would love to have Timmy in the palm of my hand <3

  • I think so...

dave and tim were and are really good friends.. so probally....

  • yoyoyo chill..u can get any youtube vid audio converted as a music doc. u can download this thing..

  • seek me up. my brother. you have to share this. can you send it to me. i'll pay for it.

    "Ex"

  • It would appear I have my Victor's mixed up thank you for the correction. Of all discipline's to mix Wooten up with.....bodybuilding. I would have paid money to see your face when you read my post. Not to many people know those two Victors! Take care.

  • From about 6:30 to 7:35; not sure if Carter and Leroi have ever been tighter.

  • @seekmeup41 you know if there's tabs to this outro anywhere bro?

  • @seekmeup41 Amen.

  • The Best is live in Chicago with Mr. Victor Richards. Or live at the Gorge "90 miles from my house by motorhome" at George in 2002. All at once the guests!

  • the bodybuilder? I think you mean victor wooten and yes that was an amazing version

  • any one know which live trax this is from???

  • listener supported

  • wrong, this was ripped from radio i believe. way back in 1996

  • Listener Supported is better for me....but this is phenomenal. There are just certain songs that nobody can play as well as Roi, and this is one of them. I like Jeff Coffin a LOT but he tries to overdo #41 and it just ends up disappointing

  • i wanted to stay, i wanted to play, i wanted to looooooove yoooooou

    my fav part

  • the 31 min #41 was 4/20 /02? i think in Toronto. It was on a Warehouse disc and is without question the best piece of music I've ever heard. It's not just the band though, Bela Fleck and Victor Wooten sat in...

  • can you find this on the web any where? i would really love to know

    thanks

  • #41 is my favorite song by DMB, but id have to say either Live at Radio City, or Live at Chicago are his best.. Ima have to check out the 32 min long one tho

  • listen to live at luther college version. his best acoustic version FULL STOP

  • I totaly agree but theres so many version u needa put them into categories i've done it on another youtube vid but

    best sung: radio city

Best mess up recovery: live traxs 7

best jam: 4/20 with bella and victor

worse mess up: live traxs 2

best overall: personally i'd say "crash"

  • Radio City with Tim is dope

    Best Trainwreck recov. - Agree

    Jam- Agree

    Worst Mess Up - Agree

Overall- DEFINETLY AGREE i think that is one of the only albums where i like most the album songs more than i do live, especially Say Goodbye

  • at :50 epic pic

  • the best piece of music I have ever heard is when they played #41 at the gorge. when they released 6 CDs of the whole 3 days. i cant remember what year. that is the best #41 ever. LeRoi is just unbelievable in it. RIP Roi

  • I meant Palladia, sorry.

  • Check out the version from Rothbury 2008. It will actually play tonight on Pallacia channel tonight at 10 pm. Jeff Coffin filled in for LeRoi after the accident. I watched it last saturday night for the first time and it gave me cold chills. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

  • is this version available on itunes? its one of the sickest versions i heard.. you should check out the one by dave and tim reynolds at radio city, its my favorite out of all of them.

  • if you pre-ordered the Best Of What's around you got this encore disk with 4 songs

and there's one 32 minute long #41 with bela fleck

    absolutely incredible.

  • no way they played a 32 minute song, i just dont believe it. maybe u played it twice and were too high to notice. really 32 mins?

  • i swear to god.

look it up on google. Dave Matthews Encore disk - The best of whats around

    32 minutes in length.

I have it on my itunes. if you know anything about computers i'll send it to you. its the best version

  • what do i need to know? Id like to have it.

  • When they release the best of whats around album, it came with an encore disk with 4 songs. Minrets, #41, what you are, and the last stop

the #41 is 32 minutes long and its absolutely the best version ive ever heard.

im sure its somewhere out the available for down load. ive you search hard enough you'll find it

  • that's the one with bella fleck and the flecktones. its dope.

  • live at mile high music festival is the best version of this song by far... the solos are absolutely epic.. the electric guitar solo is nuts. check it out.

  • Only thing unfortunate of this song: Not set to video

  • seekmeup41 yes this is a good live version of 41 the band was gelled togeather when they performed it. but the version the did on their ....listener supported tour back some time ago is a little better. try to check it out on CD or DVD and see what you think. PEACE D

  • the best one would be from Listener Supported version...

the beacon version was so awesome up until Tim Reynolds mess it up with his boring-volume-swell-ending. best jam but worst ending.

    anyway,Woodstock 99 also great version

  • listener supported was the best dmb show ive ever been to. dont hate on tim, lets see you do the shit he does mate.

  • well..watch some of my video when i was in HS mate..

or should i upload my playing ??

i don't hate Tim..but he just ruined it..Warren Haynes do it soulfully but Tim just ripping apart like he's shredding, which is not a good attempt when you play this delicate song.

    you know what i mean.

  • yeah i get what youre saying i just dont think he ruined the song is all. after playing guitar for 17 years i wish i was as good as tim.

  • Woodstock would have been great until dave messed up...hahah

  • Do you also think that Tim plays so much and to fast for this type of music? ;)

But he is much better now than before.

  • the best version is live at chicago

  • i agree. thats the one that made this song become my favorite dmb song

  • I'm gonna have to say the best #41 sung was at radio city, the weirdest version was from live traxs number 2 (that one is just like?! alright we just wont sing the first verse haha) the best recovered mess up was from live trax 7 its right after the first verse going into the chorus and im gonna have to say the best jam was beacon theater and the best over all was from the crash album. it has so many different parts to it that they dont play live but it still sounds awesome

  • I have to disagree and say that the Listener Supported version is the best... Roi's solo is unreal.

  • i love some vintage #41, love the feel with the horns, my favorite is from red rocks 05, rashawn and leroi tear the place down

  • I was just listening to that today and I completely agree. The sound of that song at that show was just so powerful

  • This is great! I love the more march feel to it for the late jam. #41 has unfortunately turned into a "fan" always saying "oh it was so awesome a 27 minute #41" this overplay often kills the energy and personality of the song, and the jam does get boring after awhile. Thanks for posting this vintage, true #41!

  • the best one is from woodstock 99' !!!!

  • maybe it has been answered before but where is this from?

  • some true vintage leroi on this mother fucker!!!!!!!!! SO SICK

  • one of best version check #41 dmb feat john mayer it is good version too..

  • i dunno this one is alright i still like the version from radio city the best

  • haha whats up with Dave's voice it doesn't sound bad but it sounds very different maybe its the recording but it sounds a lot more raw than usual.

  • It's cause his voice is a little more worn now after doing 90 shows a summer for 10+ years...

  • Yeah I totally Agree with you there but I think theres something else even when compared to other #41's from 96'.I think it has something to do with the mix that night he seems louder or Maybe it's EQ'D differently, I could be completely wrong. maybe I'm hearing things. I think it's kinda hard to narrow it down to just one supreme version. I really like the D&T02-19-96 Version , he Mixes up the lyrics with "I use to play for a certain someone once." Great Song,#41 is rarely disappointing IMO.

  • We will miss you forever LeRoi... RIP

  • Comment removed

  • scroggipoor jummis du fle

  • where is this beautiful version from?

  • i like the woodstock version

  • yep

  • R.I.P. LeRoi

  • the band and mayer at the hollywood bowl is sick

  • The one with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones is my favorite. 38 minutes of pure awesomeness. Saw them last night and they did a great version as well. Around 20 minutes. We even got in an "Everyday" chant. DMB is awesome incarnate.

  • Every #41 is Amazing!!

    DMB its amazing!

  • Dave and Tim At Radio City....my favorite #41

  • hahahah ur funny

  • radio city? ....come now. Luther is better. It's better to the point where this statement isn't even an opinion. It's fact. ;)

  • Luther is an awesome version, but the first time i really started liking #41 was when i SAW it played at Radio City with Tim, so i am a little biased

  • Excellent point. If I were to ever actually be in attendance at a Dave & Tim show, I would be completely biased to that version. I mean, unless it was a train wreck.

Now I'm just jealous of you.

  • lol yeah it was an excellent show im sure you've seen it......now i just have to hear him one up #41 at Alpine or 10klf

  • lol its one of my favs i wasnt even there...lucky

  • the jam at the gorge is like my favorite song ever where can i find it

  • live in chicago is sick and when they played with john mayer that version is nice too

  • Live in chicago is my fave version

  • Wow, amazing man, great photos too, Thanks for sharing

  • Nuts

  • Wow! A transcendant version for sure!

    Thanks for posting!

  • Dude I respect and partly agree with your opinion (especially the "built-up energy" part) that is why I really do not listen to #41 with Flektones that much, which exceeds 30 minutes. It is damn 'too' long. I also think this #41 you posted is a decent version, but I think I have to say the one recorded in Listner Supported album is magnificent, particularly if you like rather a short, intense version of #41. As for me, #41 in Live at Gorge album and in Live Trax #10 are close to best.

  • Def the #41 at the Gorge has to be my favorite

  • best live version of 4t1 is at the United Center with Mr. Victor Richards. Blew it up.

  • :50 satellite!

  • Beauford's snare sounds quite different to normal on this version...

    yeah a real nice jam:)

  • We miss you LeRoi

  • I absolutely love this song from the Listener Supported CD.. so amazing

  • yea tru i wanna see the video, and does sound a bit off

  • It´s a shame we can´t see the video of this version. The energy is just amazing. Thanks for the upload.

  • dude live trax 1, 7, 10, and live in chicago absolutely rape this version man no offense. this is a good version but it sounds off to me compared to the others idk

  • i don't think i would consider this a jam song. i do like this version though

  • thats my fav. song!

  • Just try listening to the version of "weekend on the rocks", you might just change your mind completely and instantly.

  • Agreed. Although live at Radio City with Tim Reynolds is my personal favorite version.

  • Listener Supported, Live Trax 7, and even though Dave sings the 2nd verse twice, Golden Gate is pretty good. Acoustics wise, Luther College is sick, along with Radio City...and the studio version is up there as well.

  • i love you Leroi Moore...rest in peace my friend

  • check out the 2008 version at blossom.

  • greta pics ...especially the one of Dave & LeRoi looking over their shoulders.

RIP LeRoi you will be missed, but you will live on thru the music we play "EVERYDAY"...LIFE IS SHORT,BUT SWEET FOR CERTAIN"

  • ummm thats two step

  • I think the best live version is "Live at Luther College"...if there's a better version than that, what is it?

  • There are way better versions out there. I watched two this morning I thought were far superior to this one. Dave has trouble sustaining the longer notes, and I've never heard him that bad. He always nails those in pretty much every other version. Still good, but not even in the top 10 in my opinion.

  • right on

  • fair enough, but this isn't my fav for dave's voice, this is my fav for how the song builds after dave stops singing. the jam aspect of this song is super tight and succinct.

  • It's the variety that really keeps people coming back for more. Who wants to hear the same song the same way 999,999,999,999,999,999 times? And yea the jam is incredible in this.

  • Carter Rocks!!!!

  • i think the studio version is absolutely brilliant and it'd be hard to persuade me that they've done a better live version!!
