  • Niceeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

  • what hihat do u use?

  • Hi GrooveDrummin.

Sweet sound on those drums! How do you make them sound so good. I'm really struggling with the tuning, especially with the snare drum. Any tips please?

    kind regards

  • @dembumboclot

Hi, thanks. The sound is due to careful drum tuning and mic placement. Snare has very tight reso and loose-medium batter. Thanks for watching.

  • Nice!

  • Very nice! Sounds great with headphones too!

  • Great playing and great sounding kit.

    Good job man. Cheers.

  • what sticks do you use?

  • @ZoSoVirtuoso1

Sometimes 5b but lately, I really like the lighter 5a.

  • @GrooveDrummin yea same here. i switch off from 5a and 5b depending on what kind of music and sound im going for

  • @GrooveDrummin try promark 5A love that stick only one i can use!

  • Awesome vid!

What mics can you reccomend, or prefer for your kick drum? thanks.

    Cheers from GA!

  • @azombiestool

  • Amazing drumming dude! What ride is that? :)

  • @AlexxDrrUms

Thanks, Paiste 20" 2002 power ride

  • How do you go about creating drum solos?

  • You are a beast

  • Your a beast

  • The little part from 1:38 to 1:44 was awesome!

  • what's your set up for recording?

  • Great musical solo. Love your drum sound too!

  • DAMN

  • DZ You've become my favorite youtube drummer. There is just something about your style that I can listen to for a long time. Your teaching method is incredible as well. Keep on Drummin!

  • @GraphicParty

    Thank you brother!

  • sounds like a supraphonic!

  • dude ur groovin big time :D

  • what drum heads do you use?

  • see my profile for complete list

  • hey bonzo didn`t die, is here!!!!!!!

  • - sorry! i meant too FEW players possess the ability to play fast songs quietly and with control.

    sorry about the blonde moment...

  • great control, brother! you've got a great left hand.

i think the ability to play songs - especially *fast* songs - quietly and with control, is a skill that far too many players possess. too many players rely on sheer brute force and volume to impress onlookers, and need to realize that the ability to play *quietly* will get you more gigs than the ability to solo and burn.

  • nice sounds !

  • finally a drum solo worth watching. I love dynamics

  • definitely a bonham fan here!! and i love the sound of ur kit. i typed in dynamic drums and got exactly wat i wanted to hear

  • just something cool for you to try is RLLRRL-RLLRRL it is a paradiddlediddle but played right it sounds great.

john bonham would be proud of your drumming

  • Yes, that's a good one, I've been doing this for years but write it differently.

LRLLRR - accenting the first LR sounds really good.

From this I also play the reverse which sounds good too:

    RLRRLL

Thank you for the kind comment.

  • I kinda modified a paradiddle to fit The Crunge. It's:

    RlrrLrlRllRlrrLrll

Played between the hats and snare. Accents on the caped letters.

  • HOW DO YOU GET THIS CAMERA ANGLE??! IS YOUR CAMERA HANGING UPSIDE DOWN FROM A ROPE ON YOUR CEILING?!?! Great job man.

  • Took a lot to find the right spot.

My ceilings are 10 feet high (so this helps) and in the beginning I used the camera's strap to tie off of the floor joists with another shoestring to hold the position.

Later, I ripped the mount part off of an old tripod and secured it to the joists with screws. So now it's adjustable and the camera mounts on and off easily.

    Thank you.

  • Genius......lol. Now i gotta go find a shoe string....

  • where you get on the ride and do all those extra snare beats, you should put a how to video up or something to help out.

  • that swing stuff?

  • yeah, from 38 to about 45

  • ok, can't say when, but i'l try not to leave it for too long.

  • Hello!

Once again a very nice solo!! I always love the things you play.

But I've got a question. At exactly 0:06 (and later at 0:11 and 0:14) you play a famous little lick I often heard in the drum solos of Ian Paice (I hope you know what I mean, that very fast "thing" running down the toms and starting with the snare). Can you tell me please how you play it?

    Greetings

    Martin

  • Thank you!

Yes, I know what you are referring to. The best is to make a lesson type vid on that fill. But to get you started sooner it's a fast triplet ...after the snare get your left hand up on the tom and finish with the right on the floor. I hope that helps a bit.

  • Ok, I think that I know what you mean. Thank you very much. But of course it would be nice if you could make video of how to play this and a few other famous fills and licks from Ian Paice and/or John Bonham.

But at the moment I can try to play that.

I really would appreciate such a lesson type video! :-)

    Greetings

    Martin

  • To clairify: it's right hand on snare, left hand on rack tom, right hand on floor tom, and kick.

  • Great drumming Dan :D

I'm guessing no dynamic compression at all on this? Or perhaps just a TAD ? :D

Do you use any compression on the audio of any of your videos ?

    Cheers,

    Will

  • Thank you Will!

Yes, a bit of electronic dynamics compression but mostly done biologically :)

There is some compression on most of my vids that is on kick and snare, sometimes overheads.

  • Biologically, love that ;D

I thought there may be, although I must say your biological dynamics control in this video was exceptional ;)

    Cheers

  • SO... MUCH... BONHAM!

  • LOVE IT!!

  • really good man, i cant believe this only has 127 views, i wish i could help you reach a better audience, cause ur drummin' is second to none. Nice camera angle too, i enjoyed the birds eye view. i'm a total begginer drummer rocking the four-four beats and its always amazing watching ur videos. Keep on groovin'

  • Thanks for the support...I do receive YouTube honors...today if you look at my profile I am #25 most viewed musician in Canada. Thank you again.

  • damn, that was awesome !!!!

  • Is that french or american grip? from this angle it looks like french but it looks as if the stick is coming in at an angle which would me it american. Hard to tell. I use germanic grip but it's begining to get uncomfortable.

  • I'm using my fingers most of the time. My form my not be perfect but I use french.

  • oh ok. I'm getting to where I use my fingers more. I've been spending alot of time on a practice pad do singles/doubles flams and buzzes and slow tempos just to get my left hand technique to match my right. I think I am getting "pad hands". My left hand is kinda sore and has been for a while. I don't know if its unknown tension, bad technique or just over use in general. thought maybe I just needed to switch grips or something.

  • Your toms sound really good by the way. Do they sound like that live or is it the micing system?

  • Thanks...same live

  • I used to go see a Shiatsu for sore hands and he told me to place my hand/wrist under a tap with very COLD running water. Try to hold for 5 min. Afterwards, put your hands up in the air and hold them parallel to each other but don't touch together. Now spread all fingers as far as you can to stretch them, hold for 2 sec and then close but do not make a fist. Do this 10 times and see how you feel :)

  • If you have some video of you playing, I could analyze what you're doing.

  • That'd be great. I'll have to find a decent quality recorder to use so you can actually see what my hands are doing. I have painstakingly tried to get my left looking like my right. I don't know if this is good or bad being that each side of the body is slightly different than its counterpart.

I'll also try that exercise you suggested. My hand isn't always sore/in pain except for when I practice taps or a few other various things.

  • wut skin do u use?

  • Ambassador and Emporer

  • Hey, Dan! Cool stuff again! I am enjoying the sound of these two crashes - perfect match!

  • very bonham-like. favorite drum video yet!

  • Inspirational as always.

I'm thankful for this because now i wanna get on my kit that i haven't played for a couple weeks!
