  • Not a terrible cover, but I do have to say that U2's version is really a bit better. The song itself is awesome.

  • Brilliant ! God bless my American friends - from the UK .

  • U2's Version is Great

  • You assholes, putting stupid ads on such a good song. Suck it.

  • @sweens06 del mccoury is a bluegrass singer btw not a country singer

  • @dsprad61 my mistake, thank you for correcting me, I'm not that familiar with bluegrass

  • this is the only remake of a U2 song that i actually respect.

  • This was cool. Disappointed with the chorus, but I'm glad he didn't try to compete with Bono's amazingly emotional version.

and is that a guy or a girl singing along with him??

  • @rheeny12 It's a guy, Del McCoury, who is an old, but famous country singer.

  • I just listen to both and I can honestly say, Dierks version is better. In my opinion of course. But then again. I always thought U2 sucked. Bunch of whiners they are.

  • As much as I like Dierks, nothing beats the U2 original. However, this is a decent remake.

  • If you all haven't seen him on his Jagermeister Tour, it is a MUST SEE! I saw him a few weeks ago up here in Minnesota. He put on a hell of a show, his best ever since I've been seeing him, so much energy, so much fun!

  • Sooooo much better than the original. The ting-ting-ting sounds so much better on a mandolin.

  • Great job with the arrangement!

  • Who the heck wrote "Country Music" ??

This is BLUEGRASS ! CAN YOU HEAR IT, TRAITOR ??

    Bluegrass Rules man ;)

  • this is the only way i will listen to a U2 song. chris thile is a beast on that mandolin. (:

  • One of my favorite songs I normally hate remakes but this was one of the coolest I heard.

  • brilliant cover of my favorite U2 song of all time!

  • ..... omg, ew. hahahahahaa

  • okay. they completely destroyed all the power in this song. listen to the chorus. people you can NOT COVER A U2 SONG. you can't. this version has taken all the emotion and power out of the song.

  • @karynn123 then why are you here?

  • PERFECT!!! U2+Country=LOVE!!!

  • Chris Thile is a witch. That is all.

  • This song makes me want to live :)

  • This version kicks . Bono should be proud.

  • I believe this to be better than U2's version.

  • Del McCoury is the man! How can anyone deny that fact!?! DEL YEAH

  • Whoa.......he did U2 justice......nice!

  • Wow... U2 is my favorite band easily, and I'm a pretty big Punch Brothers (well, really Chris Thile) fan. Chris Thile is the best mandolin player alive... Wow...

  • Wow... amazing

  • thanks, bhoyjack. Maybe it's because I'm a bluegrass player and well familiar with both Punch Bros. and Del McCoury - but I'm also a U2 fan since mid-80s and I know the music well. What blows me away about this cover is knowing that the Punch Bros. did it without major effects - places where The Edge was using a digital delay is all in the musicianship here. As I said, respectful as hell of the original but transcendant, and using nothing but brilliant musicianship to accomplish it.

  • @makemesoundlikeearl Good point mate. As a Scot im proud my forefathers and also the Irish were the founders of your fantastic music. Also as a member of the British Army it's been an honour to have served alongside my American cousins in Afghanistan.

  • As a massive U2 fan i have to say this is a brilliant cover and i have to say more emotional than Bono's renditions...

  • @bhoyjack ...certainly you haven't been in a U2 show...

  • @santiago2u I have been to many U2 shows my friend. My 1st was in 1985...

  • @bhoyjack "more emotional than Bono's rendtions"? There's no such thing

  • This is a positively brilliant video.

Rockers/U2 fans, if you don't like this, listen a bunch more. This song is being covered by musicians you might not have heard of but trust me, these guys are the best in the business in a genre you might be unfamiliar with - bluegrass. Don't let the idea that they're bluegrass players throw you - these guys cover Bach as well. Serious musicians.

Brilliant cover. Respectful as hell - but unique. Enjoy this.

  • @makemesoundlikeearl Well said my friend. U2 are my all time favourite band and this cover is the best i have heard yet.

  • @Ben951000 Obviously you have no idea how good Dierks Bentley is. Plus it's a bluegrass/country version. It's not supposed to compete with the original, that wasn't his intention

  • @sweens06 Well you are obviously a Bentley fan and thats great for you but seriously the chorus is weak and Bono is the only person who should sing this song. (Ok maybe the Edge as well)

  • Chris Thile DESTORYS that mandolin break.

  • @richapeyton11 did u mean destroys...kills it!! A+++ AWesome every 1...a must buy CD... have it for the artwork in hands & to play in the Car quit burning & stealing the artists profits...thank U 2!! : ) ...mld.

  • love this record.. this record is pure genius...

  • What a powerful song! I like the bluegrass version, it's very pretty with the mandolin, and you can understand all the words.

  • I prefer this version, rather than the original. Dierks & Del McCoury are awesome together, and we musn't forget the Punch Brothers

  • my favorite on the album

it proves a well written song can be beautiful in any genre

my favorite U2 song played in my favorite style

    awesome!

  • Don't forget Chris Thile from Nickel Creek! He works that mandolin like a madman.

  • @erik7x57 yeah, that mandolin break is pretty wild

  • <3 B-E-A-UTIFUL!!

  • great cover

  • Dierks is a great artist period! It doesn't matter Country or Bluegrass.

  • What else could I possibly say? Thank you so much for bringing this important song back into current culture. Absolute artistry in music.

  • saw him live at state college :)

wasn't too crazy about country or bluegrass or anything of that type, but dierks managed to change my mind! this song is simply beauteous

  • Del McCoury is my hero.

    that is all.

  • Del does excellent on the high part!

  • He sings the original, historically inaccurate "Early morning," so I'm going with "April 4th." Missed him A Merlefest - would love to hear this studio line up live jamming off the end of the tune!

  • Just beautiful. Peace and unity to us all.

  • He is awesome! One of my favorite live country acts to see!

  • Favorite!!!!! Dierks is amazing (:

  • Smashed it. Dierks is the man

  • THIS IS REVOLUTIONARY.

  • the lyric is "April 4" not "April fools" at 2:30

  • @gtbuzzkill He says "April 4", listen closer... Do you really think he's gonna butcher the song like that, really?!

  • @sabrinaellis77 haha i have listened closely alot....i have the cd...he says april fool

  • @gtbuzzkill its just the way he pronounces it, he actually says april fourth.
