@msavage198 Notice at 0:17, he puts in his in-ear monitors. At 0:28, he's speaking into the mic to test the monitors. Apparently, they weren't working. He looks stage-right at 0:36 and 0:50. That's where the monitor tech is stationed. He's continuing the test at 0:36 which is what you heard.

In live gigs like this, it happens all the time, even to the most professional and perfect bands like EWF! Sorry for the technical talk; but it wasn't Phillip's fault
