I get so tired of those who try to push 'positive only' training on all dogs, as if they all fit into some sort of cookie-cutter mentality. Correction, in one form or another, is necessary... especially for working breeds.
I'd put my GSD on a stay on one side of the local river, then ford the stream and call her. When she was halfway across, I'd give her a down command. She'd freeze and float downstream until I called her again. THAT was a happy, obedient dog!
@RBNightlinger I agree. I have two dobies and I can't imagine what would happen if I didn't use some form of negative correction on them. They HAVE to know who is dominant otherwise they will take on that role. The idea that only positive reinforcement is necessary or suggested is a woman's mentality. You ever watch Ceaser? He has plenty of negative reinforcement. The feminization of our country will be our downfall.
I MUST know how to train a dog to stop and go with just a foot action, I've never heard of it before and that's just amazing. I'm very adamant and passionate in studying to become a professional dog trainer.
Yo are an amazing dog trainer. I hope i can train my future Doberman to be just like that. I've always wanted a Doberman and i hope I can get one someday. great video and wonderful dog
Patience is the key ;) Dobes are amazing, trained they are just the best. Of all I've trained Dobes are the most responsive & as said by Foxgirl you need a handler/trainer that knows the breed. PLEASE don't buy or take on a dog like a Doberman if you do not have the time or space to exercise the fella! All others have fun with your pups etc! & remember you are the boss, not the pup/dog, & they must be taught in a passive way :)
I, too, have a European line working dog, a GSD. I'm not overly critical of those choosing to use physical corrections in training, but I don't think that it's absolutely necessary, just because they're working lines. It might just be this video, but the dog does look to be a bit dampened, with ears back. I personally enjoy relationship based positive training, even if it can be challenging at times.
@foxgirl26 to each their own. I've had two Dobes. And as far as books go, I actually learned a LOT from reading a variety of books, whereas in the past, I would just follow an obedience trainer blindly. There's some pretty great books out there.
There's a YouTube video page with a GSD, trained with positive reinforcement, and he's amazing. Look up Kaine the GSD. That's the kind of happy working dog I like to see :)
@foxgirl26 I had a female just like that. She loved me so much she would be all submissive-looking when greeting me, even though I never yelled at her. My male, on the other hand, is a brat (I mean that in a loving way of course) I am a beginner so forgive me if this sounds ignorant, but since this dog heels beautiful, is there a reason you still use a prong collar on her? (I have to use one on my male on walks since he still pulls, but am not allowed to use it where I train) Just curious.
I'm going to college right now for zoology. I would like to eventually to military and police dog training. I can't wait to get to the level where I can get those kind of results from a dog!! That's fantastic!
@Rafazzel start the pup very early with a GOOD dog trainer where you work with the dog & the trainer. Choose a trainer that works with & knows working breeds very very well. Choose a protection dog trainer that is NOT all about bite work, but knows the importance of solid obedience training. You dont have to do protection training A GOOD protection dog trainer knows this breed well and wont force you to train protection, but in my opinion they offer the best obedience training for this breed.
@foxgirl26 do you think doberman is good for a beginner ? like no experience with any animal before because i can't even feed a fish =.='' they always die...
Im sry, but im not impressed. Very good work of the dog, but he lacks alot of joy. That is because you work with corrections. Its very much funnier to watch a team with really passion of the work they do, and thats not something that is shining through in this video.
@gelatinium Thank you for your comment, others have said the same thing, however dobermans, especially mine, do not work well without correction training. They are working dogs and can't be trained with 100% "happy tones" and cookies. Until you've owned a working bred, working dog with an intense working drive you will not know this. I assure you, my dog is very happy and very balanced even if she does not look that way in this video. Look at my other videos if you think she is unhappy.
1. Thank you for reply, and not taking the comment in a bad way :) I`ve had Dobermann`s my self, and have yet to experience what you have within the breed. Mine worked their ass off without corrections ;) And i do not think your dog is unhappy at all! When you are playing/doing trick in/outside your house its relaxed and Kola seemes much more secure :)
2. But not when you where having that training sessions outside. Its easy to tell that you are a good trainer, i just disagree with the small part that makes the dog`s body language insecure :)
@gelatinium yeah she has always been a very intense girl when working. My idea of correction is not harsh, more of an attention grabber. its about 80% praise and 20% correction with her. She has this very intense temperament which needs a stern hand at times. Stern in an "on & off" way, I never get mad at her but she needs correction. I've worked with many trainers with her and many styles. I finally found an amazing trainer who has been working with working breeds for over 30 years. he's amazin
..my trainer trains in a similar manner to Cesar Millan but a little more structured. I've been meanign to re-do this video in a more relaxed manner, it does look pretty intense at times but She SO wants to please me when she is in "working mode" I call her my "snap-to" dog. lol she has always "snapped" to everything I ask of her. its funny at times.
Not sure if this post is gonna pop up a 100 times now cause i tried to post it in different ways and no1 is showing ;) Anyway : May i suggest this video as an example? Search on Lennox von Aurachgrund This a beautiful preformance the team is showing!
@gelatinium Sure I'll check it out. Thanks. Theres a delay in posts until I approve them. i get some jerky people commenting on here sometimes so I set it up to need approval before they show up.
@Dobedful - Im sorry but your dead wrong. 1st, my dog still has her "passion" and spirit very much. Don't comment on things you clearly don't know about. 2nd. a well bred European working dog from working lines is very intense and requires some level of correction. I don't own a washed out American bred version of the real Doberman who is a Labrador in a Dobe suit and who can be trained with 100% percent ha's ha's & cookies. I've seen enough in my time not to argue this age old argument. tnx.
that was great, do you have videos that you explain step by step how to do all that? without the music?? i'll look in your channel, but i just needed an answer, sorry lol
Great video. Although it's still about 6 or so months away from myself getting a house (in apartment now) then I can get a doberman - all these videos are great for helping me prepare!
Can't wait to get my doby! Thanks for the informative video!
Why is it every once in a while I get some loser who cant just watch the video and hit MUTE if they don't like the damn music! and not be so RUDE about it. Go away!
she cant have a run off the lead, it would be fantastic if she could walk properly on the lead too, in fact its that horrendous, i dont take her out much, i come home so upset that its just not worth taking her out. at home she is fine although shes not much of a loving girl, shes not the typical 'rucksack' dobe which is upsetting too, i would be greatful of any advice, i am determined to get her out of all this, she is such a beautiful looking girl too
lead training & a nice loose lead heel can be done if you get a trainer to show you how. dont hire a trainer who uses 100% positive methods it wont work on 98% of dobes. They are working dogs and need a REAL trainer who knows working dogs. find someone who trains like Ceasar Milan or similar. Too many people treat dogs like kids instead of the pack animals they are. All the best and stick with it they are an incredible breed, the most loyal and loving you'll ever be owned by.
i got my 3 year old dobe in feb this year, ive always loved dobes, had one years ago too. im struggling as she is so agressive towards other dogs, been told she does it out of fear, i would love some advice on this, she is horrendous on the lead to and if i let her off, shes gone, so now she never goes off the lead and is constantly muzzled, its such a shame her previous owners didnt bother with her, and its embarrassing to take her out cus people think its my fault, its such a shame
yeah I can take mine out for a run but we are lucky t have a. a dobe who is ball obsessed that other dogs dont phase her if theres a ball being played with. B. we have a closed in park that barely anyone goes to. My girl is bad with other strange dogs too so I feel your pain on that one. without a LOT of training hours and a good trainer to help you you'l never get her over that.
I understand this take time, but how do you learn how to start with this type of training and how to get up to your level? I plan on buying a dobe in the coming years and really want him to be extremely well trained. Books? clicker method? I want to train myself now way before I even get a pup. thanks for a reply!
we trained with every kind of trainer under the sun till we found a good one.For obedience its just repetition & routine, correction when needed and tons of praise. Sit stay down recall and distraction proofing was first. tricks I did with her on my own and I never use correction for trick training. Read, get a trainer, but beware of yahoos who think they are dog whisperers. Any trainer that says theres only one way to train EVERY dog.....run from them and find a new trainer.
i am determined to get a doberman as soon as i get a sturdy place to live as a puppy, name him duncan, and train him super duper smiley obedient :). but we wil play often so he isnt hard as stone.
how do you make the dog bounce right into the sitting position on your left side....the schutzhund way? do you train with lure and reward to get that motion?
its funny you mentioned that. I call her my "Snap To" dog because she snaps into every position with vigor and enthusiasm. Its nothing I did she is just a hyper dog and loves to work. But yes in the begining days I definately used food or toys what ever she loved the most just to teach the behavior and then I phased it out as she learned new things flawlessly. Now she works for my verbal praise only.
well vocal....even though she should be working on visual but I dont really keep her obedience super sharp these days. I pretty much dont train with her anymore outside of every day manners & obedience for common things. We used to train 4 nights a week for a long time. Had I stayed with that, she'd be doing all visual commands by now.
great video! well done! its nice to see someone using the dobermann to some of its potential! im a dog trainer and i have a dobie, great dogs in the right hands! again well done and thanks for being a great ambassador for good dog owners!!
Thank you. Its refreshing to see that others like yourself know that Dobermans need to be in the "RIGHT" hands. They are fantastic dogs but definitely need owners who are dedicated to training. She is my first Dobe and I learned that on the fly! Next one will be even better!
I'm so happy I finally got my own dobermann. I've been loving them over 10 years, before I got my own. :) I couldn't get dobe before, because my mom scares dobermanns. Without reason...
I don't compete in obedience with my dog. So I don't make tight rules. We do obedience for fun & because a Doberman needs some kind of "work" to be happy.
my dog was no where near this obedient at 6 months old either. It took a lot of time to get where we are today. train your puppy and Never give up and you too will have an awesome dog who you will be proud of.
i am about 2 get a doberman this weekend but i am a little scared. it a very small dog now but i know it will grow. plz some advice should i get it or not?
great job! loved the down and recall. how in the world do you get them to look back and stop, lay down, turnaround, stand, return, and repeat with out with out a sound. Bravo! im in the market for a doberman and after this video
What I saw was the dog hardly ever lifted her head on a heel. The focus is missing. I could not see the enthusiasm in the work from the dog's body language either. The training looked more like the result of a compulsion and not motivational approach.
i heard that as a dobe gets older his brain gets bigger but head stays small and when the brain gets big enough to touch the skull it gets hyper and dangerous. i s it true?
no thats one of the biggest wives tales ever told. There's never been one single case of that wild roumor being even remotely true. The health issues Dobermans have is DCM & VWD.A heart problem, & a blood issue.
Great work! I have a 14 week old Dobe boy...You gals are an inspiration...something for me and my boy to work towards...so far so good...Keep up the good work! ps- how old is she?
oh my god your dog is wonderful so well trained my dog only knows the basics but he didn't finish training so he sometimes doesn't obey at all so please train my doggy i beg you and if its free better. lol
Very nice! Good training. Congrats Kola and the owner!. Best wishes for the trainer! :) By the way, which is the video editor program used for making this film?
wow, i am truly impressed, that is great... is that from a book? i would be interested in training mine in this method.. im going to pick him up tomorrow he is red and rust im so excited!!! i think im gonna name him Pharaoh....
nope no book. just 4 nights a week, every week of obedience training for the first couple years of her life. Tons of happy tones, one prong collar, lots of training treats and one 6 foot leash. if you want to train like this go to a reputable working dog trainer. A trained dog is a happier dog (so is the owner...believe me I know)
I get so tired of those who try to push 'positive only' training on all dogs, as if they all fit into some sort of cookie-cutter mentality. Correction, in one form or another, is necessary... especially for working breeds.

how do you make the dog bounce right into the sitting position on your left side....the schutzhund way? do you train with lure and reward to get that motion?
c3contact123 2 years ago
its funny you mentioned that.

Does your dobe work better on vocal or visual commends?
SaiYanSighT 2 years ago
well vocal....even though she should be working on visual but I dont really keep her obedience super sharp these days. I pretty much dont train with her anymore outside of every day manners & obedience for common things. We used to train 4 nights a week for a long time. Had I stayed with that, she'd be doing all visual commands by now.

great video! well done! its nice to see someone using the dobermann to some of its potential! im a dog trainer and i have a dobie, great dogs in the right hands! again well done and thanks for being a great ambassador for good dog owners!!
timmymint 2 years ago
Thank you. Its refreshing to see that others like yourself know that Dobermans need to be in the "RIGHT" hands. They are fantastic dogs but definitely need owners who are dedicated to training. She is my first Dobe and I learned that on the fly! Next one will be even better!

That is amazing, Great work. I love my dobe. Perfect breed

Yes, they totally are!
I'm so happy I finally got my own dobermann. I've been loving them over 10 years, before I got my own. :) I couldn't get dobe before, because my mom scares dobermanns. Without reason...
hessuliveihei 2 years ago
lol she shldnt be scared of them...they r such beautiful and kind loving animals! :)
beautful100 2 years ago
Aah, okay! :D
Just like I do with my own dobe. I don't like competitions very much. And my dobie is cropped, and in Finland, cropped dog can't go competitions. :/
hessuliveihei 2 years ago
cool! they are a fun breed!
foxgirl26 2 years ago
Oh. There's different rules in your obedience that in Finland.
hessuliveihei 2 years ago
I don't compete in obedience with my dog. So I don't make tight rules. We do obedience for fun & because a Doberman needs some kind of "work" to be happy.
foxgirl26 2 years ago
Wow, awesome! What a good idea to use legs in commands! :D
But if you're dog must look in your eyes, how she knows which leg you move?
hessuliveihei 2 years ago
Se doesn't have to look at me every second. A dog feels your movement as much as they see it.
foxgirl26 2 years ago
cool!

my dog was no where near this obedient at 6 months old either. It took a lot of time to get where we are today. train your puppy and Never give up and you too will have an awesome dog who you will be proud of.

Good music. Love Dj Tiesto "just be." Oh, and great job. Inspiring.
cmaki0816 3 years ago
What I saw was the dog hardly ever lifted her head on a heel. The focus is missing. I could not see the enthusiasm in the work from the dog's body language either. The training looked more like the result of a compulsion and not motivational approach.
benyukhis 3 years ago
yea this day did look complusion driven because it was.

Dobes are the 5th intelligent dog breed there is. This video really shows it too. Dobermans are my favourite breed!

great dog , ilove this breed, we had one but had to get her put down, we miss her very much

i heard that as a dobe gets older his brain gets bigger but head stays small and when the brain gets big enough to touch the skull it gets hyper and dangerous. i s it true?
armenianperson 3 years ago
no thats one of the biggest wives tales ever told. There's never been one single case of that wild roumor being even remotely true. The health issues Dobermans have is DCM & VWD.A heart problem, & a blood issue.
foxgirl26 3 years ago
No that is a myth, just like some people say pitbulls have locking jaws, that is a load of crap also, no breed is capable of locking it's jaw
dogtrainer102 3 years ago
yah is true!! actually i've been bitten by my dobermann!! he is 10 years old!!

cute dobe
every dobe ive trained ive noticed that they respond better to hand and commands, then when they are right, just a pat on the head.
does your do better without a praise?
or does she get a praise when everything is done?

wow, i am truly impressed, that is great... is that from a book? i would be interested in training mine in this method.. im going to pick him up tomorrow he is red and rust im so excited!!! i think im gonna name him Pharaoh....
bmwhottieboi 3 years ago
nope no book. just 4 nights a week, every week of obedience training for the first couple years of her life. Tons of happy tones, one prong collar, lots of training treats and one 6 foot leash. if you want to train like this go to a reputable working dog trainer. A trained dog is a happier dog (so is the owner...believe me I know)
Cheers!
