While it is true that christians have had their share of scientists thoughout the ages (as long as they didn't make any theological assertions),
most catholics wouldn't know what the Scientific Method was if it bit them on their ass and confuse dogma with science.

His comments have caused him problems at Harvard and in fact, Harvard have cut off his funding!

I notice that the article you quoted was in the "catholic news agency" and (big surprise!) doesn't tell the whole story!
Read the intervview with Dr Green by the BBC.
His comments were not a criticism of condom distribution, but a criticism of the education programmes that accompany condom distribution.
He says he recommends the ABC strategy: Abstain, Be faithful, use a Condom, whereas the pope says only "AB".
The Lancet described the Pope's comments as a distortion of scientific evidence.

i am 15 and a roman catholic although i do not practise my religion i know that pope john paul was an absolutely amazing man not just to the roman catholics but everybody... he realy wanted to make a diferance in this world and he did but it breaks my heart to see the new idiot being the leader of the roman catholic church, he is not fit to be a priest with all his stupid beliefs.. pope john paul the second u wil never be forgotten

You are young...so Ill guess that you dont know what are you talking about....roman chatolic saying that anybody is an idiot is not christian at all. Force your brain and heart to get to know the Benedict and you'll even see that in fact JP II and he are basicly the same. Different way but the same spirit.
