this may sound like a stupid question but when you say a one bladed helicopter experience what did you mean were you talkng about the RC or a Real life experience
Awesome Dave and thanks for sharing another wonderful video, we too here have a Country Base Hospital, that has Trauma Heli support, and lately been very busy, they fly right over our house, last weekend they came in and out five times in the one day,
the Bell 222 is a quite impressing heli, and quite loud :D
bu Dave, do you know why the heli is turning left and right a few times during takeoff, Dave? (just a bit, but you can see it by watching the tailboom)
@derniko1992 Yes, He is trimming it, just like the models. We typically trim the tail boom first. It was also a bit gusty with wind rotors from all the surrounding buildings. He had extra weight on the way back too, so that required tail rotor trim. This is why flying model helicopters with tail rotors are difficult for most as they are so busy with the right stick they cannot get the tail rotor to settle down. Thanks for the comment and question. ~NightFlyyer~
So cool, Dave. I've never even been near a Bell 222 like that one, but I did get to sit in a BK 117 medical chopper about 10-12 years ago. Have toured, flown or just been in many, but that was especially nice meeting a pilot who had served in the military and now in civilian life. Thank him for all of us the next time you see him, please.
Btw, the "real" Airwolf helicopter from the series was sold to Germany after the series was filmed. And guess what - it was used as a medical helicopter like the one in the video here. Unfortunately it crashed and was totally destroyed. ;-)
That is great! Nice looking whirly-bird. Love the Riders version you played in the back. For some reason though, I could not stop hearing the theme to Airwolf.
About 6 years ago, as part of my wife's class requirements to get her paramedic, she had to do a "ride" along on Life Flight here in Oregon. While in the air on a 200 mile transport, she witnessed Mt. St. Helens blowing off some steam. Never been in a heli myself. would love to one day...not as a patient ;)
@AuroraCypher Actually they do. That sound is the blade tip breaking the sound barrier. Models can do it too, during certain maneuvers which allow them to be heard. Bigger blades cause more sound, hence it is harder to hear on models.
Great upload Dave! Thank you, man! You know who else is lucky? WE ARE! To have you Dave sharing the gift of your knowledge, your easy-goin' manner, and your wonderful Spirit! Bless ya very much! <3'th'Net! /^_~\\
@DrPilotRedC Well they sure work good on my model airplanes and helicopters. Real planes usually start out as working model prototypes. Check out my 1 bladed prop and rotor blade videos to see for yourself.

i wonder if they'll ever make it so that real air craft could be flown with remote control instead of dealing with all those switches

Maybe the pilot is trying to compensate gusts?

Has anyone done full scale testing with 1 blade or even at least looked into the physics of it?
joeprissel 1 year ago
@joeprissel Check out my model helicopter videos of it. My RC, 1 bladed Helicopters are quieter and smoother than stock, believe it or not
NightFlyyer 1 year ago
@NightFlyyer I wonder if the extra flex of larger blade on a full size helicopter would have any noticeable effects.
