FF is not the fastest browser around, the only reason it's so popular is because it's extensibility but I personally have gotten sick of it as it's too crowded now and I have now moved on to iron (googlr free version of Crome) and safari which I like because of it's development toolbar.

Can see why people would disable it but not put it back on due to the fact that MI is the unsafest explorer I wouldnt even recomend it for even opening to see what it does, go get a friend with another explorer and download the firefox installer and put it on your computer
