At this point, then, your faith is boiled down to one thing: itself. You have no idea what you believe; you simply believe it.

For someone who has felt His love, to no longer have that feeling or comfort is genuinely a tragedy - much worse than the very breakiest of heartbreaks if a relationship ends. All of this to say, whether any of us acknowledged Him or believed in Him or not, His love for us all is immutable - we have no choice in that. What we can choose is whether we allow it, and Him, to flood our lives.

i recently went on a mission trip to cincinnati, ohio, and i learned many new things. for example, i volunteered to help with little kids at a church and they new the books of the bible, by heart. they could say them so fast too. they don't care if they wear ratty clothes and if they wore that outfit already that week. they were happy just the way they were. now, that made me realize that we all complain about what we don't have but we need to accept what we do have. all they wanted was god. :)

@Munchkinssparkles It's easy to say something like "God loves you." It's easy because it's devoid of the certainty of meaning. If God loves me, then how does he/she/it love me? "He sent His son to die for you" would be your response, but that ushers in a host of other questions (not to invoke or avoid the typical arguments). At this point, then, your faith is boiled down to one thing: itself. You have no idea what you believe; you simply believe it.

@Munchkinssparkles In other words, you believe in a God you cannot know who does things (which ones, you also don't know) you cannot understand, and you must either proceed from your feelings (a sense of God's presence) or just grit your teeth in spite of a reality that bears more likeness to an absurd order than calculated benevolence. A relationship with God is only as real as He is, and just the belief that He is so fails to equal a relationship.

For example, it's no good to say that I want God to heal my friend of schizophrenia: neither of us knows whether it's God's will for them to have it! Perhaps, ultimately not, but for the here and now, we don't know. In Christianity, then, reality is fashioned around the concept, not vice-versa.

Second, despite my lengthy explanation, the critique I'm presenting is fairly simple; that is, Christianity doesn't provide any more certainty than anything else and therefore require Christians to have a faith in their faith.

Third, I guess I'm not stating that Christians blindly follow; I'm stating that they have overlooked a great deal in order to maintain their comfort. Fourth, feelings and beliefs are just feelings and beliefs. When you reach a crossroads (due to some situation), it makes sense if and when those things change.

How could it? I think this is why I always question the concept of an "ex Christian". If someone is a Christian, they have come to know Him. If you come to know someone, you can't suddenly unknow them. You can cease to spend time with them, but you can't suddenly deny their existence... tbc

For someone who has felt His love, to no longer have that feeling or comfort is genuinely a tragedy - much worse than the very breakiest of heartbreaks if a relationship ends. All of this to say, whether any of us acknowledged Him or believed in Him or not, His love for us all is immutable - we have no choice in that. What we can choose is whether we allow it, and Him, to flood our lives.

i recently went on a mission trip to cincinnati, ohio, and i learned many new things. for example, i volunteered to help with little kids at a church and they new the books of the bible, by heart. they could say them so fast too. they don't care if they wear ratty clothes and if they wore that outfit already that week. they were happy just the way they were. now, that made me realize that we all complain about what we don't have but we need to accept what we do have. all they wanted was god. :)
