There is a service bulletin that relates to a faulty VVT actuator / sprocket that can cause this noise. Also, these engines are notorious for blowing up due to oil starvation at the rods. My opinion is that the balance shafts go bad and bleed off oil pressure from the bottom end, thus starving the crank. If I owned one of these cars (2.3L), I would not hesitate to remove the balance shafts. Google: "2.3L balance shaft delete". The 2.0L doesn't have the bad VVT or the deadly balance shafts.
I have a feeling that Mr. Lube put the wrong oil in the car. It is the first time I got an oil change from them... 6,000 km later, the engine was toast. When the Mazda dealer drained the oil, it was pitch black and runny like water.
@candal82 does that mean the engine is toast my moms car sounds like this n the dealer said its still under waranty and he was saying something about the bearing

Spun bearings are caused by lack of oil, missed oil changes or over revving.

Nothing wrong! It's evolution... It's a gasoline engine evolving to a highly superior diesel engine. You have more torque now.

Crank bearing is spun, 100%. Same thing happened on my 06 2.3L.
