But Manny assessed her situation, informed the father, confessed to her own mother, and decided to get an abortion early on in the legal window. That is responsible.

Getting pregnant isn't a punishment. That's something that naturally happens when a girl has sex. It's not a punishment to give birth, it's a natural thing. Just saying.
i think that if a girl has the time to lay down and make love and then finds out shes pregnant and says all well im pregnant and im not ganna take care of the baby and i dont want this baby why does that mean abortion? I think at least you could give birth to the child and give the baby up for adoption if you know you cant take care of him or her or if you "dont" want the child just at least let the child live an did you know after 18 days of being pregnant that the baby has a heart beat :)

But put yourself in Craig's shoes for a moment. If you found out your girlfriend was pregnant, and was miraculously excited about it, then she decided, "Eh. I don't want to deal witht he duties that come from raising a child," think about how devastating that would be. In this episode, I feel much more sympathy for Craig than I do Manny.

And there are plenty of disabled babies and older children languishing in government services (and foreign children with attachment issues) and occasionally placed with foster families only in it for the money if someone who's going to be such a good parent wants a kid that badly.

i think that if a girl has the time to lay down and make love and then finds out shes pregnant and says all well im pregnant and im not ganna take care of the baby and i dont want this baby why does that mean abortion? I think at least you could give birth to the child and give the baby up for adoption if you know you cant take care of him or her or if you "dont" want the child just at least let the child live an did you know after 18 days of being pregnant that the baby has a heart beat :)

Remember when Manny went over Emma's to talk to Spike and spilled out that her mother was "even driving her [to the clinic]", Emma was so pissed that she said coldly "my mom will be down in a minute" and left her alone in the kitchen. From my point of view, what Emma really did was protecting Manny from Craig's anger; after Craig leaves the hallway, she leaves Manny alone again.

I bet a lot of people who watch this show felt bad for Manny when she told Craig that she was aborting, and that he was being crazy for not supporting her. But put yourself in Craig's shoes for a moment. If you found out your girlfriend was pregnant, and was miraculously excited about it, then she decided, "Eh. I don't want to deal witht he duties that come from raising a child," think about how devastating that would be. In this episode, I feel much more sympathy for Craig than I do Manny.

The Canadian version differs from the American version. This episode was never shown in the States because of hot button issues of teenage sex, pregnancy, and abortion. The PBS affiliates which broadcast the edited version still received flack from sponsors who threatened to cut off funding for airing the episode.

I saw degrassi since i was in the 4th grade in the US, but it was maybe a few months after it aired in canada that i watched it from a download.
I was shocked that they didnt show it in US, but not shocked that manny would be pregnant.
such a good episode!

Starting from degrassi jr high a girl has been pregnant spike had her baby which was emma erica had an abortion manny also had one mia kept her baby and liberty gave hers up for adoption. Honestly if i was to get pregnant i would keep my baby if i was in a stable enough position to. I could never ever give my baby up for adoption because it would always bother me that my child is out there somewhere. As for abortion i think its the womans right and nobody should be allowed to take it away

Ooh, dumb one, very clever. You do realize that it's just a tv show, and that it's her choice. And I'm not for abortion, but wouldn't the child have abandonment issues when it's older?

My mom was adopted, she doesn't have "abandonment issues" Trust me, my mom would rather have that than if her mom had an abortion.
