Remember never pull a Morel, cut it off near the base. If you remove the root ball you will never see another Morel in the same place. Same with all mushrooms. DO not remove the root ball. Cut the mushroom above the ground..
When it is early in the season and you find them gray like that, and you can get back to them, let them GROW! They can even grow for a couple of more weeks if they stay moist enough. When they are ripe they will often change to a more yellow color. You can cover with a plump layer of leaves to retain moisture and to keep others from finding them. I had a friend let some grow in his yard last season for 28 days!
Hi just checked a couple of my "hot spots" for finding morels were picked clean of hundreds of tiny 1 to 2 inch morels hardly enough to make a good meal hahaha fools are everwhere.
man this is TOTALLY awesome yea... i remember as a young lad growing up in kentucky my grandfather would take me in the sticks to hunt these. they dont grow wild here in the united kingdom, bummer huh?? do you know of ways you could GROW morels? if so let me know .... cheers mate
Hi, I'm sorry but I don't know how to grow em but I'd be more then happy to air-mail you some next spring when they come out again let me know and I will send you my contact info. It was close to 40 years ago when along with my dad I found my first Morel ! I've been finding them every year since....... my dads family is from the United Kingdom. Take care.
I found a starter kit at GMHP on the intrnet,Ihave'nt got it set up yet, but I don't see why they would'nt grow in your neck of the woods. Good luck my freind! P.S try gourmet & mushroom products.
Essexs park is a great place to find Morels, one year I found over 50 pounds of them there, after yesterdays 80 degree temps then the rain that followed they should be popping up all over ! GOOD LUCK !
Mark... nice! I'm a fellow Morel-Enthusiast and we had an incredible day out! If you don't mind I'd like to share this clip with you! No beer-bottle sized Morels yet this year, but Missouri is definitely a good Morel state!
Hi, I looked a few days ago and you can sure smell em but couldn't see any yet. I think its going to be a great year for finding Morels due to the amount of snow and rain we have had so far this spring. This cold spell is going to slow things down a little not to worry though they will be here soon ! another rule of thumb is when you see the lilacs blooming the Morels will be out as well ! GOOD LUCK !

Another thing is that you seem so calm. When I find a cluster like that I shout with glee.
