To family & friends my brother Andre was the kindest & most generous person. When it came to his job as union leader he took it to heart and fought with passion for his brothers & sisters. When my daughter (Sabrina) told me that someone posted ``I`m glad he`s dead & wish he burn in hell``, I told her he (John) must be one miserable human being. If the people of Ottawa had any balls they would stop taking the buses for good and refuse to pay OCTranspo's taxes on their property tax bills. A strike is supposed to generate public support to there cause. Unfortunately, this strike has caused the city to turn on the bus drivers due to there actions. On the news on CTV last night, there is a reported 50% increase in traffic accidents from January 1st to 18th. They state its a matter of time before people are found dead in there homes due to this strike! I wonder how many innocent people will be hurt, or even die because of the recklessness of this strike. Legal or not.

As much as I disagree with the OC Transpo strike, the answer is not to treat them like shit. The drivers are not all André Cornelliers. Remember that a lot of them never wanted to strike in the first place but had no choice to do so. That's what a union is. You follow them or you quit your job. Don't get me wrong, some of them are spoiled brats who have nothing to complain about, but others never wanted to strike and wish it was over as much as you do. it's kind of hard to understand why they're striking for not being able to schedule their own shifts. I wouldn't expect my boss to let me dictate my hours. I can understand using their seniority to choose the best runs and shift rotations, but striking to be able to choose their shifts and overtime daily is going to be a hard sell to those of us in the real world.
Also, Cornellier is an embarrassment to their union.
Now the union is going to threaten the junior members, who are being screwed over by the seniors, into voting against the latest offer in the forced vote - even though many would likely be in favor of accepting it.

I met André during the strike and he gave all the love in the world to those who showed some solidarity with the union. He did what needed to be done against a mayor who wanted a strike and got a strike. The people of Ottawa who couldn't figure out the details were the idiots who voted for O'Brien a second time around. On the news on CTV last night, there is a reported 50% increase in traffic accidents from January 1st to 18th. They state its a matter of time before people are found dead in there homes due to this strike! I wonder how many innocent people will be hurt, or even die because of the recklessness of this strike. As much as I disagree with the OC Transpo strike, the answer is not to treat them like shit. The drivers are not all André Cornelliers. Remember that a lot of them never wanted to strike in the first place but had no choice to do so. That's what a union is. You follow them or you quit your job. it's kind of hard to understand why they're striking for not being able to schedule their own shifts. I wouldn't expect my boss to let me dictate my hours. I can understand using their seniority to choose the best runs and shift rotations, but striking to be able to choose their shifts and overtime daily is going to be a hard sell to those of us in the real world.
Also, Cornellier is an embarrassment to their union.

I don't think that anyone deserves to be threatened. The strike may be insensitive, but please guys try to think from the bus driver's point of view (I am NOT a driver).
However, may I ask what YOU (Mr. Cornelier) get out of this strike? IF it is indeed dignity and respect, don't you think that shouting on TV was going against your goal? If you want respect of the community, start by respecting the viewers and the TV interviewers.

I respect your right to strike, and I agree that, prehaps, the community did not give much though about the bus service. However, are you SURE that it isn't about the money? Everything is about money, no matter how implicit it may seem (why do you think that the city is holding firm to the work hour? if it is not about money it would not EVEN BE ON THE NEGOTIATION TABLE). Maybe we listen to too much CFRA, but shouldn't it be time to throw out this "this isn't about money" hoax?

The unions of old were interested in worker safety and in workers being treated fairly. I'm ashamed to see that this particular union has been transformed in to a group of organized extortionists, all organized by a corrupt group of senior drivers. They want to keep rights to scheduling because if they don't it'll ruin the little scheduling scam that they've put so much work in to setting up.
